Started by two enterprising brothers Loring and Aury Gates Coes back in 1836 in Worcester Ma.; with a rich History the wrench was produced starting in the mid 19th Century to the mid 20th Century, with a high rate of about 3,600 per day at the turn of the 20th Century.
The first Coes patent in 1841 could be adjusted with using just one hand (something that with other makers you needed both hands); which set them apart from everyone that came before them.
In 1928- Bemis & Call acquired the wrench line ** please note any Coes wrench stamped Springfield were made after 1928. See pictures.
In 1939 B&C were bought out by Billings & Spencer and the last Coes wrench were listed and made in their 1962 catalog- 121 years after the first Coes wrench was made.
