The Most Beautiful Engine Color

Being an AMC guy I'm kind of partial to this color. It's called Blue Poly.

I'm also very glad that Seymour still offers it as part number EN-66.

I've just gone through this motor. It only had 15,000 miles on it. It was like new inside. It got a light pass with the glaze breaker and I redid the head. Then new gaskets, core plugs and generous coat of this gorgeous color.

The same color on the 360 I put in my Gremlin.

I must say I've always liked the green on Detroit diesels as well. What's your favorite?

My first car at 16 was a 1969 Big Bad Blue, 390cid, 4speed, Go-Pack, Javelin SST with the roof spoiler. That was a fast car for a high school kid and would dust most of the Mustangs, Vettes and Z28's at school in the mid 70's. Man I loved that car and wished I still had it. In the 80's I bought a 68 390 AMX auto... not as fast but a real fun car.

My 69 was just like this but with the BB Blue paint.

I'm partial to cast aluminum as all the factory unobtanium parts I'll never be able to afford are that color.

I'm also partial to the non-metallic pontiac baby blue before corporate blue... like a 455HO for example.

To the OP, Nice work on that AMC V8, that blue is flashy and a nice contrast to the car's color and the chrome.

I Just got done with a new engine for my BMW 2002, went the semi-gloss black route.
(ze Germans do not approve of color!)

i pulled one of them out of a 83 cj5 and put a different one in it was interesting how the exhaust and the intake manifold are connected together. i figured it was so the heat from the exhaust mani warmed the air comming in to the intake mani to keep the fuel vapor from condencing to help with cold running conditions i guess

The '83 258 should have a manifold heater on the intake, below the carb, as well as a heat motor on the intake of the air cleaner. Those devices take care of carb icing during start up.

For muscle cars I would say my favorite is Mopar's street hemi orange. I think it was one of the best looking colors on an engine. Not only that, but Mopar had painted engine bays (not blacked out) that are body color. I think this made them even better to look at. The poster's AMC engine looks great too. However, my second pick might be the Dusenburg green. That is pretty beautiful.

There are actually two different detroit diesel greens,sometime in the 70's the dark green was replaced by a lighter one. I like the later color. All of my boats and street rods have had "wimbleton white" on the iron parts. Its an off white 1970 ford truck color. I always thought it looked great with a lot of chrome and polished aluminum.This one is the only one that wasnt white,it's a metalic grey that was done to match the oter parts. I dont like it as well though This isnt a real good pic,but you can get the idea.

I also think that if you are doing a restore, it should be the correct color without grinding the block flashing and multiple coating it to look "better than new". Too much over restoreing being done,imo.

This was a Renault Color .. has a gold pearl to it ... laid down over a school bus yellow Primer ...

Did'nt purty the engine up on the stand ...

but it cleaned up nice ... and matched the outside color

This might bug some of the purists but I did my SBC in a mid 90s metallic turquoise. Its going into a Jadestone green car and seeing it in there, it looks pretty hot.
