I was on a road trip with my Girl, last week, and we were discussing some upcoming projects around the house she wants done.

There was a moment of realization, that whilst she is a gem, I sometimes have to figure out ways to justify funds for tools I..... Um, WE need... :)

My best personal example is this one...
She wants a new ornate, wrought iron detailed front gate...
Our Neighbor got one she likes, and it was $1600...
I looked at it, and explained its easy to make, I have a welder, I just need some tools I didn't have..
I got "Budget approval" for a used Hossfeld Bender, HF Tube roller and material for the welding bench I need to build it on... $400 spent.
No Gate built yet, because she wants to look at some others and design it herself... but I have the tools(I think... wink), to do what she wants...

I just wondered if anyone else has some great stories to share on how they obtained "Budget Approval"...

They might come in useful!

I am currently working on "Budget Justification" for a $400 3D Printer...

She wanted some lawn ornaments made from wood pallets that she had seen somewhere else. No problem, but I had to have a table saw and a belt sander to do that kind of job.

I married an enabler lol She knows what I can build so it's always, "why don't you just buy that tool?" Takes a lot of self control!

2nd anniversary (many years ago) was clearing property by hand,it was just acreage then,I told here I could really use a chainsaw. So that was our anniversary present to each other. In retrospect years later Im lucky she didnt use it on me,but didnt know how to start it.I still remember the price at $139 for a 14" McCulloch with case. That was a lot of money in the 70s

Love it!
This is what I’m talking about.
My girl is a number person, so I have to have my ducks in a row before I ask.
Honeydo item A, costs X.
Tools required cost Y, so savings for this project is Z.
I generally underscore with “But then I have the tools, to make Honeydo item B too!

I can see this thread developing into a “How do I justify this tool” ideas place!

So, what do ladies like/need that can be 3D printed???

Grow a pair and lay down the law!! [emoji12] No really though, once she sees what you can make/produce/fabricate...she will have no issues with you buying tools. I know when we have party’s at the house and the old lady is pointing out stuff that I made to her girlfriends, they are looking at there husbands and saying “why cant you make stuff like this?” Of course their husbands hate me... make something like these and the wife will stop fretting. I made 2 of these.. Restoration Hardware wants like 1600$ for these.. and another cool table I also made..

I just tell her if you want it done, I need these tools, or we can pay more and hire someone.

Yup, in a nutshell, that's really what I do.

My Current "Budget Acquisition" mode pertains to a vehicle she wants gone from the drive...
It is good, but has lots of "Headroom", to take it from what it currently is, to realize its full resale potential. I think I can double/treble what I have in it with a little work.
Needs some bodywork fixing, and then some offroad bumpers making for it.
Already got my Swag Offroad Press Brake kit to bend brackets... Now I need Tube bender dies....
