The snap on is slightly more powerful, but the Ingersoll Ran 2135timax spins at twice the speed, and weighs 20% less.

mg 725 or the ir2135tiMAX, which ever your pocket book can handle..

most automotive stuff these days can be done with 3/8s impacts though, so it may be a bit excessive..

The street legal thundergun From IR and I do not have any use for it,will break bolts off.

The Thundergun is the fastest but not the most powerful. Mine also has the best power to cost ratio. $50 NIB:bounce:

you guys do know that the power ratings on ALL the guns are bullcrap, right? for example, the 2135timax puts out about 350 forward and 360-370 reverse actual working torque. i've repaired and tested about all the guns mentioned, and we use a skidmore wilhelm model t-3000 to test all the tools.

i can't take pics at work, sorry. i'm not saying the guns ain't powerful just that the ratings are overinflated. i'm not sure how the manufactures test/rate their impacts.
emeraldcoupe, would you be able to compare apples to apples then and let us know what the tests indicate the various guns actually put out?

Emerald since your repairing and testing some of these guns, what do you recommend for a gun as a good compromise between reliability and power?I'd rather have something with good power and great reliability over something with huge numbers that breaks quickly. What's the best compromise out there,in your opinion?I have an original Mac aw434 from back when they first came out and it's been bulletproof for a lot of years but lately I notice it getting weaker and sometimes switching directions on it's own.Friends of mine have bought newer versions of the same with nowhere near the luck I've had with mine so I'm hesitant to get another Mac.

What is the difference between "Nut Busting Torque" (forward ? / reverse ?) "Max. Torque in Reverse" "Working Torque Range " "Forward Torque Range"
Why does Ingersoll Rand show 3 or 4 torque ratings instead of 1 or 2 (forward, reverse)

What about the AirCat 1200-K they claim 1200 lbs torque and 950 working torque at 86dba.

Nut Busting torque is the highest torqued fastener that the tool will remove in a resonable amount of time. Max torque in reverse is the actual torque the tool will tighten a fastener to, this requires left hand thread fasteners to test. Working torque is the recommended torque range for daily use of the tool to maximize the life.

The model T-3000 is an electronic torque tester (a static strain gaged shaft) which has it's uses, but determining max torques that an impact can produce is not one of them. If you test on a hydraulic skidmore using an actual fastener and then check break away torque in the tightening direction you can establish what the gun can actually do. There are a lot of variables, however, that the manufacturers can do differently that affect results, such as, bolt size and grade, run time, thread lubrication, etc.

The new SO impacts are junk, hammering mechanisms break which is a huge problem.Sent in for repairs 3 times every 6 monthes. My Matco dealer took one on trade and it was refurbished already.I inspect the anvils on my IRs every 2 years and replace them if needed. They wear our due to use and I do not use chrome sockets and attachments on them using impact sockets including the impact grade extension bars too instead

The NitroCat is nice. It is not big and bulky in my hands either. The power has not failed me so far. Note that I do wear XXL gloves. Sense it has the kevlar it is lighter then most at the torque rating. I would rather have one made in the USA if found.

Thanks, JASTECH

Thought I would bring this back to life and see what others think?

After years of working in different shops and seeing many seasoned technicians different branded guns along the way, The MT1769A (or IR2135tiMAX) gets my nod. This thing is a beast! I traded my used MG725 straight up for a new one with my matco distributor and he gave me a can't-say-no price lol, the MG725 was nice, but you can feel and hear the power in a MT1769A a bit more than a MG725 I find, in the end it comes down to personal preference between the two I believe and I've chosen IR.

That is a 2135TiMax in Matco clothing. It is a nice gun, but I will take my Mac Nitrokitty over that Matco all day every day. It removes everything I hook it to, including heavy duty truck lug nuts, which were torqued with an IR 1" gun until it quit spinning (I know the guy that put them on and he doesn't let up until the gun quits moving). The Nitrocats are killer guns, but they take a hell of a lot of oil, twice a day, three times if they are used heavily.
