I welcome the few other Nepros owners out there on GJ to post on this Nepros thread with their photos and findings. This goes for future owners as well who find this thread before, during, or after they get their Nepros tools.

Now for my Nepros feedback……..

A little background is in order here. Like many of you here on GJ I have tools from most major country sources. While I have tools from countries such as Germany, Italy, China, Japan, India, and Russia my primary hand tools are Snap-on. Having received my first Snap-on tool back in the 1980s I immediately liked its precision fit on fasteners and the way it worked in my hands. As we know, tools are a very personal choice so this is my disclaimer. Anyway, recently I began putting together a portable tool set to use when working away from my shop. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try some other tools that I hadn’t used before but felt were of high quality. I stumbled across Nepros hand tools on the internet and also here on GJ. They looked good and worth trying out.

KTC, Kyoto Tool Company, of Japan produces a premium tool line known as “Nepros”. It looks like Nepros is short for "New Professional Satisfaction". I’ll leave it up to you to research the metallurgy and production processes as I’m not into that science. The Nepros tool line is available to US buyers for purchase through their company website www.nepros.net . The Japanese are known to produce some quality products in high volumes at a reasonable price. Precision measuring calipers and high end cameras are such items that have high regard.

Fast forward….. I decided to take the plunge and source the 6 point sockets for my portable tool set from Nepros. Normally I buy used tools in like new or new condition in order to save money but I made an exception here as the Nepros pricing was reasonable plus there aren’t any Nepros tools to be found here in the US that I’ve seen anyway.

Last Friday, 5/20 I submitted an online order for a rack of fractional sockets, a rack of metric sockets, a set of three wobble end extensions, and a ratchet all in 3/8” drive. The same day I received an email from Eri Inoue of KTC (Nepros) informing me the order had been received and that the ratchet was out of stock until late June. The order was processed and it shipped on Monday 5/24 via UPS plus I received an email with the tracking number. The order (minus the out of stock ratchet of course) arrived today 5/26. Wow! Like a good tool junkie I opened the box to check out the tools.

Since I’ve only just received these tools all I can share are my initial thoughts plus some photos. Thoughts…..WOW! They lived up to my expectations. The finish is excellent both inside and out. There are no apparent flaws to the operating surfaces or the exteriors. The chrome is a high luster, hence the “Mirror” word noted on the box.

Photos are of the following tools:
Nepros NTB320A, 3/8” drive, 6pt, 5.5-24mm socket set (20 sockets)
Nepros NTB315BA, 3/8” drive, 6pt, ¼”-1” socket set (15 sockets)
Nepros NTBE303JW, 3/8” drive, 3pc wobble extension set

Now onto the tool drool !

3/8" drive wobble extensions. These are "wobble plus" style meaning they are wobble but pushing the socket on hard click it into non-wobble mode.

Wow, I'm not a tool expert by any means and I have never heard of this brand, but they look fantastic. I would love to hear comments on the quality of this brand after some testing/use. I am shopping for socket sets and am open minded about brand, as long as they are quality. How would you rate them compared to your other tool brands (snap on, german brands, toptul, etc.?). You have definitely peaked my interest. Any waranty information?

After looking at the price point it seems to be a bit higher than Wright (a brand i am looking at) and higher than Toptul I believe.

P.S. What is a circular ratchet (No. NBRM3) they advertise (I wish their pictures were bigger)?

Thanks for posting.

Alberto

Topfuel,

I purchased last month the following Nepros hand tools:

- 1/4" drive metric socket set
- angle nose plier
- 1/2" drive universal joint
- 3/8" drive, 8mm hex socket bit

Here is a link to the pictures of the above Nepros tools:

I am going to receive another package of Nepros hand tools on Friday and I will post the pictures. :bounce:

OK, we're off with a bang here!

Alberto - Yes, the prices are going to be higher than the Chinese Toptul's. I like the looks of the Toptul but I don't thinks they can be compared to Nepros. Kind of like Snap-on to Craftsman. They are both solid tools but manufactured and priced for difference markets. As I mentioned I have just received these Nepros tools so I haven't used them so can't make a real judgement on quality of function. However, from what I've been able to find on KTC they are supposedly a widely use brand in Japan and we all know there is a LOT of industry there. The Nepros line is KTC's high end line with the mirror chrome finish so I would expect more. They certainly are packaged with pride! I'd suggest you visit the KTC website to see the tools you are interested in (unfortunately it's in japanese!) http://ktc.jp/catalog/index_pdf.html .

TheGrooveking & mkdive - Yah, you're not alone when you say you've never heard of Nepros! They haven't invested much time or effort in getting the word out at least here in the US. I hadn't heard of them until last year either. But when I did I was impressed and I'm not easily impressed.

Monte - The chrome is as beautiful as it looks! This is a visual judgement only since I've only just received them. For all I know the first time I bang a socket off of something it could chip and flake but I really doubt that. The finish is a bit shinier than Snap-on hence the "Mirror" reference KTC makes. Although some of the Snap-on wrenches I have are very mirrored I think the visual difference with the Nepros is perhaps a darker smokey pigment to the chrome where the Snap-on is a whiter more silver look. I'm not in the shop but perhaps later I'll shoot a side by side photo.

EXCELLENT post, Dave! It would be asking you too much to repost it on this thread but those are some nice photos and good information. Please post your feedback on the order you'll receive on Friday (tomorrow!) here on this thread so others will have one thread to visit for Nepros information since that's lacking out there on the internet.

It's overcast today so had to take photos in the shop so all of the following photos are either underexposed or have major flash back.

Comparison of some of the most shiny chrome tools I had. Tough to do as my tools get used so the mirroring gets scuffed up.

From top to bottom:

Mac half moon wrench (unknown manufacture date)
Snap-on 18mm ratcheting wrench (2004 production)
Snap-on 5/8" ratcheting wrench (2008 production)
Snap-on 7/16" combination wrench (1997 production)
Nepros 3/8" drive extension (2010 production
Nepros 1/2" socket (3/8" drive) (2010 production)

Comparison of a Snap-on 1/2" socket and a Nepros 1/2" socket. They look very much alike.

anyone know if those socket rails are listed seperatly or someone sells copies?

Someone asked that in another thread and I believe a GJ user responded that the rails weren't showing in the nepros.net online shopping catalog. I'd guess they are available for sale but you'd have to inquire with KTC.

EDIT: I just stumbled across the catalog page which shows the rails as seperate items. Here are your part numbers to use when asking KTC if they will sell them to you. NOTE: 6.3sq = 1/4" drive, 9.5sq = 3/8" drive, and 12.7sq = 1/2" drive.

Anyone have feedback regarding their ratchets? This http://www.nepros.net doesn't give much info (although it does give dimensions and weights of individual items...)

I ordered one but won't have it for a few weeks.

Their catalog is in japanese and Google translation didn't work for me. Here's a shot of the ratchet head detail. I believe it states that the finer teeth in the Nepros design (on right) allows for a stronger hold because two teeth are engaged versus only one.

And for those of you that work in shops on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills they also offer leather wrapped ratchet handles with fine stitching. :)

Looks like Nepros is another source for semi-deep 3/8 drive sockets:

NTB3M12A for the full set
NTB3M06A for a partial set

I'm not as knowledgeable as most on here, but those internals look strikingly similar (to me) to my craftsman ratchets, save for minor changes in the forward/reverse lever:

It'll look similar to many other brand ratchets. I have a 1984 Snap-on ratchet here with a 30 tooth mechanism and similar guts. It seems Nepros is behind the latest curve for the high number tooth gear drives out there now. An 80 tooth Snap-on Dual 80, F80, is $78.50. A similar size (but older ratcheting mechanism, 36 tooth) Nepros is $39.95 so it's a different product and price point for sure.

It's not a Snap-on Dual 80 for sure, but how is it any different (better) from a US made Craftsman?

I'm not knocking their tool, design, or price, just asking whether there are any advantages to theirs vs. a US made brand.
