Merry Christmas to you indeed!!! Nice setup! My issue is that I can't see where I'm welding with the HF helmet. Hoping that spending $250 on the one that a really good friend that's a welding supply house manager suggested will be the fix. I never thought that the HF was unsafe. I just couldn't see where I needed to lay the bead. I started a welding helmet thread that had every opinion in it from there was nothing wrong with the HF to I was an idiot for buying it in the first place. :)

We will see in a few days when the new helmet gets here. I also bought a nice Tillman apron and sleeves. I've used the heck out of the HF grinders. Gonna buy another one tomorrow so I don't have to change disks. I'll have one set up with a wire wheel and one with a disk then. :D I think I'm hooked.

I have mine turned all the way down, shade 9 I think and I use reading glasses in lieu of a cheater lens. I wear +1.5 readers normally, when welding I use +2.5. That combination really helps me see what I'm doing.

You're using fluxcore, right? If so you need to clean your lens often as it will get dirty fast with FC wire. Found that out when a friend was showing me how to MIG and he had FC wire. The longer I welded the less i could see, took off the helmet and looked at the lens and went "doh!" :)

Another thing is to try is a 3m respirator with P100 filters (the pink round ones), they fit under the helmet and will keep the fumes and junk out of your lungs. Welding is fun, tasting the byproducts for two days wasnt.

I did notice that I had to clean the helmet often and the smoke and fumes from the flux core were pretty nasty. I actually ran the dust colloection system in my shop with a few gates open which really helped with extracting/filtering the fumes/smoke. I saw the need for a respirator pretty quickly so I ordered a 3M N100 8233 respirator when I ordered the helmet. they are disposable so I'll get more if I like them. They are small and tight fitting hopefully just right for under the helmet.
