Here is the next floor jack rebuild. I seem to have done a few of these lately as others have too. This is a Craftsman 2 ton import from around 1987 and follows the import design found in Hiball's tutorial. I picked up for $20 and figure I'd rebuild it. The seller said it probably needed oil or something....yeah right. I put some new fluid in it and it worked twice before it seemed to stick them not work at all. Opened it up and think I found out the problem. Looks like the main cup is a 22x40x12mm. Need to find one. When I checked the oring store and locally they haves loaded ucup but not the plain ucup. Also still need to pull out the orings and measure them.

Here is a pic when it worked once...

Is there a trick to get the washer out of the release valve? There are all sorts of fragments from the seal that need to be cleaned.

Also here is a pic of the seal leftovers in the cylinder.

If you look the washer is being held down by the outer nylon seal.. Should be able to pry/pull it up as one piece.

Perfect timing for me. It appears to be the exact jack I have that needs rebuilt. I was wondering about that same washer. i didn't want to mess around too much until I can find a source for the rebuild parts I need. I will be following along carefully.

I pulled the washer off last night. I used a small screwdriver. Worked the screwdriver underneath to pry it up. It's a little distorted after prying it up so hopefully it will work when I put it together. I will inspect it more later, but I guess that holds down the washer and with the pressure from the release gear housing holds the washer and nylon seal but not entirely sure.

Everything went back together fine. I did have to spend some time with brake clean to get the pieces of the old seal out. As far as seals, Hiball hooked me up with the ucup. All the other seals were in my various HF oring kits with the exception of the tank orings. At 64mm in diameter I went to a local austin seal shop and bought two -144 SAE orings that did the trick. Works great now. Oh yeah, you also have to grease the wheels to make it roll nice.

Back together...
