Hey everyone, I have been following the gallery threads for a year now and I simply can't imagine how pretty some of the garages all of you have got!

When I moved from my condo, I am kicking myself for not asking my builder to make the garage larger, but for now, its decent sized, 2 car, 22x26ft roughly..

Are there any threads here for those in modern suburbs, where garages are a lot smaller than some of the dream garages you guys got with 3-4 cars AND room to work??

you guys all seem to pull off having a lot of stuff, but it still being organized at the same time, it doesn't look cluttered up.

I'd like to do some flooring, but my garage is not worthy..

suggestions anyone?

I built 3 street rods in my old garage that was 20x24. I now have a 24x28 and am in Heven. Trouble is no matter what the size it winds up not being big enough. leave a car parked outside and put a project on wheel dollys so you can move it tight to the wall when not in use. Good luck.

Have you not seen Jack Olsens garage? That guy has made the most out of the least and made it look to be one of the best I've seen.

Since I will be cutting/welding on my floor also... I cant do the nice shiny floor that you see in some garages. I have purchased a densifier with water repelant in hopes that this will make the floor a bit more durable and stain resistant.

My shop is 48X64 and too small! :)

Someday, I'll be back in a clear-span building. My current shop is an old barn (think around the time of the War of Northern Aggression) that is chopped up into barely usable spaces that is difficult to heat and has lots of wasted, energy trap spaces.

You gotta do what you gotta do with what you have.

This makes me laugh. Back in high school days my buddy would build VW engines in the kitchen and bake the engine cowling pieces in the oven after painting them. His Mom was not happy.............

It is a nice garage. I'd love to do that, but I can't think how.

I have a 3 bay garage. with 9' wide doors.

Too cold to work out there in the winter, but I would like to get a lift at some point. I have the ok from the missus, just need to check the floor. I have expansion cracks sawn right in the wrong places(does that make sense?) for my maxjak idea.

I tidy it up for the winter and can get 3 cars in it, snowmobile, snowblower. This in all likely hood would need to continue. We get snow for the good part of December to March.

In the spring, summer, fall, I'd like to put the following in for the night:

'01 Boxster S
wife's CRV
Honda VFR motorcycle
4 pedal bikes, 2 adults, 2 kids
1 or 2 hopped up 18V ride-on toys
Misc. balls, bats, scooters,

My Tools that take up floor space
20 gallon horizontal oiled compressor
110V Migwelder and cart (fluxcore right now - no bottle)

I've got my work cut out for me.

My roommate stored a dirt bike in our dorm room in college for a while. I made the mistake of opening the blinds to look out the window one day when the head guy of the college housing dept. was walking by.

trueno92 I have a 20x20 garage and I have picked up tips and tricks from the many posts on this site to come up with a plan for my garage.
Stop looking at the size of the garage and look at how they utilize the space and shrink it to fit your needs.
Over the next couple of years I will be restoring a 1974 Jeep CJ6 and a 65 Mustang fastback in that 20x20 so its all about what you make of the space ya got.

Too cold? Insulate and get a decent heater or furnace.

As far as the motorcycle, bicycles, etc., get a large shed and then you'll free up a lot of garage space.

Well here is an "average Joe" garage: its 19x22. I started with this

That was just before I did the floor.

Here is after the floor and painted walls:

Making some cabinets:

More cabinets, tools, pegboard:

About the most current full garage shot I have, it has changed some since this pic, but not by much:

It does not take a lot, just some time.

Amongst others, user q20v has a thread titled "Barry's 18x20 Garage" in what sounds like setting much like yours. Very tidy with some of the challanges or a modern home. One of my favorites.

You can do a lot in a small space, but you have to be very organized and know that you will get frustrated at times. I do all the work on my cars and my garage is 18x20. Last year I pulled a transmission and re-built it. Of course there were parts inside the car (lifeted up on blocks), on top of the car, even under the car and it was not always fun. But what a pleasure when it was back in and the car worked :)

Also, in my case the gardening tools (lawn mower, wheelbarrow, trimmer, edger, ...) live in the garage (no choice).

I've never understood pretty garage floors.

Throw down the kitty litter and hose it off is all I'm willing to do.

you've got a lot more space than i do. i am stuck with a 10x20 until i can find my own house. i still live with mom and dad while i am in college, but hopefully i can find my own place soon since i have a large savings from working when i took time off from the whole college thing
