@Ryan I share your search.
I‘ve EDC’d a Benchmade mini grip for the past 25+ years. I’ve become addicted to the easy one hand opening and the locking blade. I used this knife extensively at work where one handed opening (with gloves) was frequently needed.
Before the mini grip I carried a SAK Tinker for the previous 25 years.
Lately I‘ve been missing the tools of the SAK even though they are limited.
After I retired, I have off and on looked for the “holy grail” knife or pocket tool with little success.
About a month ago I found this Leatherman Free T2 on sale on the jungle site for $36 and figured it was worth a look.
As purchased, the one handed opening (at least for me) wasn’t happening.
I added the ”pop” rivet shown and I’m getting the hang of it.
It’s no where as good as the thumb hole on my mini grip but it’s working.
The selection of tools isn’t perfect but it’s as good as the SAK Tinker I carried for years.
Surprisingly, I haven’t found the added thickness to be an issue.
I would like to find something better than the rivet that I‘m using as “proof of concept” but the head shown on this side of the blade has to be very thin so as not to interfere with the tool next to it.
One disappointing thing is Leatherman didn’t include a pocket clip! Holes were drilled and tapped but no clip. Come on Leatherman! That was a cheap *** decision.
Whatever I use has to have a pocket clip IMHO.
I had a clip in stock but still…….
