The Pallet Garage!

Hi everyone'

I started this project in the corner of the garage just to see what it looked like.
And this is what happened. I had a pallet that my wife brought home for another project and that didn't pan out so one night a few of my can friends
We're thinking this would look good on the wall. Did that little corner and surprise I liked it and that started the downward spiral to pallet walls. I've at this
for almost two months with time permitting. And as of right now I have finished
three walls. And starting the last one tonight. It's a 20x21 garage no big but fun.
I want to add pics but I have an iPhone and don't know how to add pictures from this so any help would be great! Have a great night! Kelly!

I've seen this done in garages before. Typically it looks very good. One problem though. If it is an attached garage, you may have lessened the fire rating of the walls. The drywall in attached garages is fire rated. The pallets will burn on the wall, reducing the effectiveness of the fire barrier.

For sure. Unless this garage is a pallet museum with a heavy duty fire sprinkler system, it's a very risky wall covering.

Much has been said about the wisdom (and lack there of) of covering garage spaces (where flammable gasses or vehicles that use them are stored) with any type of wood, but pallets give wonderful air gap - they are like giant fire starters.

A small fire will spread quickly and the entire structure will be a total loss before a fire engine is even moving to the property: http://wgntv.com/2016/09/20/6-displaced-after-fire-at-pallet-company-in-west-town/

Two questions:
- Would this invalidate the insurance coverage for the property?
- A 20 X 21 garage doesn't have a lot of elbow room to begin with and pallets on both walls takes up an entire foot of space on the side-to-side measurement of the room. Doesn't that make it less usable and harder to open car doors?

Sounds cool, just not sure I want to lose six inches of space on each wall.
Definitely need some pictures.

Hello I think there might be misunderstanding. I did not put a full pallet on my wall. I stripped them first. Only using the 3@4" wide boards.

That's pretty darn cool looking. When I read the thread yesterday with no pictures to go off of, I was wondering WTH you meant. I think the best part is you can hang a dart board anywhere and it won't matter. :)

Looks awesome! Closing off the ceiling with drywall painted a lighter color will help to not darken the space too much. Excellent idea on the pallet wood.

Looks awesome, I did a divider wall in my shop similarly but with free old fence boards for the top half and rusty tin for the bottom half.

I like the look.

I have drywall on my garage walls. Though I've been meaning to use up some of the old fence boards that I've taken down (fence was falling apart, some boards rotten but would have enough) to cover up the wall my workbench is on to give it a more "rustic" look.

The only thing I don't like is the cabinets but I need them and you would have to be here in person to see it

Looks nice..But it seems to **** up all the light in there

I plan for a galvanized steel ceiling and epoxy the floor a bright color. I've seen a lot of marbling floors with epoxy and I think it would look good.

I was thinking the same, pictures look great OP. Seems like you'll have to do that to your basement (man cave) now. :dunno:

Cool look... Only cuz I'm biased with my own style and preferential and simply liar design.. Just curious.. Did you insulate or is there any plans to weld or throw sparks around those walls?

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
I have had a little time off. But progress is still slow. Minnesota winter has started and I'm behind the 8 ball. Walls are insulated and so is used garage door. But I have no ceiling in yet and it might be next summer by the time I get it in. Not happy but bathroom remodel trumps this project. But I'm trying to organize as best I can. I want to build a out building for lawnmower and other yard stuff.
