The Panthers Lair

Hi all

I have been doing a lot of browsing here, with only a few posts so thought it about time to to start a thread of my own.

I started with a 6 x 12m steel shed, then put in a nother 6 x 12m with 4m between which I put a roof over for our motorhome. A 3m extension was then put on the back of the first shed and divided up into rooms for storage, machining, grinding/linishing/bead blasting and painting.

The pics that follow were taken at this time, the first 2 showing the main part of the shed with a glimpse into the extension. The second 2 showing more detail in the extension.







I have been giving some thought to my work area so am now beginning a redesign of that area. More pics to come soon.

Back when these were photos were taken there was actually 3 Mini's in there, 3 in the other shed and 1 in the garage.

After selling my 1970 Cooper S there are now 3 in the other shed and 3 in this one.
The 3 are a 1966 Deluxe with 1275 and Cooper S discs (for sale), a 1970 Mini K and a 1964 998 Cooper. The 3 in the other shed are a 1972 Clubman GT, a 1970 Mini K and a clubman parts car. I am undecided on what I will do with the Mini's at the moment as I am more a bike guy.

Thanks, yes the Panthers are a great bike, I have 3 at the moment. A 1958 M35sport (250 twin 2 stroke) waiting for resto, a 1930 M50 (in the shed picture) needing some engine work and a 1914 P&M which is the one on the table.

This P&M is mostly finished so I am just going to put a link in to have a look at a slideshow of a load of pics, hope it works ok

While I am obviously keen on Panthers I am now looking for something a bit different, a pre 1918 Indian.

Wow that P&M is a work of art!! I would love to have early 1900's bike of just about any make, but I don't think it will ever happen as their getting so rare that the prices are out of my reach..

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I thought it might be useful to post some exterior shots.

This shows the 2 sheds with the covered breezeway between for the motorhome.




In this pic you can see the 3m extension to the lower shed. You can also see I have a 3m wide slab behind the other shed to store "good stuff" on.



Will follow up soon with some shots of the new interior layout.

Here are a few shots of my revamped inside as it stands at the moment. There is still some tidying and some more sheeting to go on the walls but you can see the layout.




Have also got a couple of pics showing finds I scored at the Ballarat swap recently.

Firstly the street sign, which is my surname.


Then a couple of tins, the Champion tin and the Panther biscuit tins were swap scores, the other tins were from ebay.

I did mange to get a little done.

I took inspiration from one of BBchevro's storage solutions.

I made this


Gave it a coat of paint


Added some wheels and slid the drawers in


This isn't completely finished yet but I will be sure to post again when it is all complete.

I'm pretty happy with it so far though

Thanks 1/2 Cup, you wanting to copy it is a compliment, there is so much you have done that is simply awesome.

It is appropriate that you want to copy it as the final piece to it was inspired by your work, wood

Hopefully one day i will end up with a real early motorcycle, i always head out to the swap at gatton hoping to score a nice bike but usually the budget only suits a basket case. Looks like you have a nice block of dirt as well. i will keep an eye out in here from now on Steve.

Hi all

It's been a while since I posted, I've been very slack !!

I've recently started a semi-restoration on a Mini for the youngest daughter to learn to drive in. It is a 1971 Mini K, will have the standard 1100 engine, some mags, a new paint job and new interior.

It is a pretty good shell but does have some small bits of rust to fix so I finally found the need to make me decided on a welder. After looking around I got a BOC Smootharc Multiprocess 175. It uses inverter technology and is a MIG/TIG/Stick.


This unit seems to be fairly easy to use for even a rank amateur like myself. While the welds in the following pick are not up to welder/tradesman standard they at least can be seen to be "welded"


These 4 pieces will become the supports for the rear mounts of the Honda Prelude seats I am installing.

I'm restoring a 57' Panther M75 in addition to a few other microcars, motorcycles, and scooters. The Panther has been way more difficult to find parts for than I expected.

A pic prior to beginning restoration, it doesn't look bad but there are lots of missing or incorrect bits, broken bolts, bad repairs etc.....time for some Panther TLC

Sorry about the delay in replying, I must have missed your post when first done, I have only just seen it

Good to see another Panther owner here, how is the resto going ?

I used to have a M75 too, but it only had a few hundred miles from new, one day I was kneeling next to the bike looking at something, when I got up I leant on the kickstart and the bit of slow movement caused started the engine. It really is amazing how well things run when they are in good order.

I had a boxer he passed away with a tumour 3 years ago.
I would love another boxer but it's still hard to this day without him.
