THE Pay it Forward "PIF" Thread

Rules:
1. NO discussion about the rules in the PIF thread itself. If people want to discuss the rules, we'll take suggestions/bitching/whatever HERE in the poll thread.

2. Offerers should consider post count, prior posts, etc. when deciding on a claimant. For example, if I find that an item targeted toward a young, starting tech is trying to be claimed by someone who provided advice on rebuilding a 1940's Baldor Grinder, I may just have to question his "status." Speaking of status, I highly recommend having a complete and accurate profile....I for one will be checking.

3. Let's keep the PIF thread clean. Feel free to comment on "nice scores" or "awesome item" but refrain from "your item is lame" type posts!

4. If it so happens that a claimant makes the case to the offerer that he/she is a "new, upstart tech" or "struggling mech" or whatever the case may be, that is in dire need of the item(s) for use in doing actual work, or attending school, etc., the offerer may choose to identify them as the claimant, but must post another item him/herself to the PIF (this assumes the claimant chosen has little or nothing they are able to offer up in return) THIS IS THE OFFERER'S EVALUATION OF THE CLAIMANT!! This is not a discussion to be had within the PIF thread.

5. Once the offerer has chosen a claimant, they must identify said claimant in the PIF thread like - "epiq rollcab sent to twertsy:lol:" I think this is important because it will help us identify if there are poachers preying on the thread that might be BSing / crying the blues to offerers on every item they "want," rather than NEED.

6. It is at the discretion of the offerer to evaluate / bless the next item to be posted for the taking in the PIF. This should keep the posting of "HF tape measures" to a minimum. The offerer should not ship the claimed item until:
a. they (offerer) have posted who the successful claimant is by editing the original listing;
b. the claimant (or her/himself as in rule #3) has posted the next item.

Process:
1. Post up an item(s) you are willing to part with, at no cost to a claimant;
2. Claimants PM the offerer regarding:
a. why they need the item (work, collection, etc.)
b. the item(s) the prospective claimant will be offering up if chosen by the offerer
3. Offerer chooses, at his/her discretion ONLY, a claimant
4. Chosen claimant arranges shipping, method doesn't matter, it's up to the two parties.
5. A new item is posted by the claimant, or as decided on BY THE OFFERER as stated in Rule #3 above.
6. Get your popcorn heated up and watch the fun! :willy_nil

The claimant for this item is Drake9, who was the first and only taker on the item.

Here is the first item(s). This listing is intended more for collectors although, both items are serviceable.

A 1/2" drive, Snap-On GS-71 Ratchet (circa late '60's - mid 70's) with very slight name on the side of the handle.

A 1/4" drive, Snap-On GM 70S Ratchet (circa 1937 – 1958)

After a review of all the potential claimants on this item, the claimant is rushmtrsports

The second part of my offering is targeted for a beginner / new technician only, no collectors please.

FHNFD100 Snap-On Green Handle 3/8 Flex Head Ratchet.

Again, PLEASE PM me about this item only if you are starting out building a tool inventory with which you intend to make your living.

Be sure to describe your situation to me via PM and tell me why you need this item.

I will pay shipping for this item in the North American Continent.

I think what you've started is great Twertsy and you have offered up some very nice items. I don't fit the mold for either one but I hope a deserving person ends up with those killer tools. I have some nice items I'll be offering up when I get the time this weekend that may help some collectors or active wrenchers.

Twertsy, I also feel you've shown great dedication to this thought with your offer. I'm not interested in what you're offering (because I don't meet the criteria :p) but how do you plan on picking the recipient? The one with the saddest/most compelling story?

Lol.......I'm "evaluating" the PMs now. I plan on waiting 'til tomorrow morning to decide in order to let those of you who are busy techs have a chance to see the items.

But, to answer your question...........research!

schmoldty- i dont make or enforce the rules. i'm the guy that bends and breaks them ;)
your post count may be low, but your offer shows your mettle.
if someone needs your "extras" and you follow thru and send them you're OK in my book.

i got a few trades and stuff coming in soon i think and i'm swapping over toolboxes now so my garage is a mess.
i bet i'll have some stuff to offer up in a couple weeks.

The claimants for the items I posted up are identified in the original postings. Congrats and I hope you get a lot of use out of them and they contribute to your success in the future.

Drake9 and rushmtrsports, please post up your items for the next round!!

I'd also like to note that this is "supposed" to be an iterative / consecutive thread. In other words, one offerer, then a claimant, then the claimant becomes the offerer again, and so on.

HOWEVER, it looks like (like we all know) there are a lot of truly generous folks here on GJ, wanting to contribute to our next generation's successful foray into the mech / tech world. I think this is truly awesome!!

I nominate ducksface to start a separate thread dedicated solely to those who truly NEED some tools to make a living, and those who offer up their extra tools and implements to that generation, asking nothing in return. This thread is more for claim, post, claim, post type activity whereas the new thread would be simple generosity. Thoughts?

Twertsy, I think the generosity idea would go like gang busters and then Peter out. If it doesn't stay on the first couple of pages then it will get lost is my thought. What about an alternate giver here? Say someone who is a receiver doesn't have much they can or afford to give, an alternate (on a list) puts up what they've got. I know this can get greedy people to come out and get stuff and then lie that they don't have anything, but its an idea.

Thanks Twertsy! I am posting up a set of crimpers. Burndy Y2MR, these were left to me by my father who was an electrician. Good crimpers, just won't be of any use to me wrenching on motorcycles. I will post pics this evening or in the morning.

I think the one offering at a time rule is going to kill this thread. Did the other "simple generosity" get started? I have a few things that could use a new home.
