Today I signed onto the site after a few months of being to busy to look. I ended up on this thread and spent the whole night reading it. You garage is incredible. Your attention to detail, your skills, and your talents are obvious everywhere. Wow, what a space you are creating. Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you.

Loookin good PAul looks like you have already cleaned up quite a bit on that monster :D.

I also noticed in your latest office pics what looks like a door in the background on saw horses getting a little patina added to it :D.

Rick

I got most of the parts cleaned up. I did the big casting after the pics.

Yeah, I thought I'd play with that door a little bit. If I screw it up at least it's just paint.

Paul,

Excellent! The bandsaw is looking great, and will be a fabulous restore I'm sure.

Have you checked out the dates on those bad boys? You can look up the serial numbers here and see when they were actually made. Always fun and nice to know:

http://wiki.vintagemachinery.org/DeltaSerialNumbers.ashx

Thanks Dave, I saved it for last 'cuz it's a lot more involved than the other two.

I looked up the serial's when I first got them. The jointer and the bandsaw were made in 1947 I believe. The table saw is 1953. Funny thing is, the manual I downloaded was published in 1943 and it's exactly the same! Don't mess with a good thing I guess.

Another funny thing. Two of the bearings for the wheel shafts are exactly the same as the ones for the table saw/jointer motor. I'll order them all at once and maybe get arbor bearings at the same time just for good measure:)

Geez Albert, your gonna make me blush:). It's been a long journey (so far). I had to ramp things up a bit once I got hooked on this place. Nothing but fun though. Thanks a bunch for the kind comments.

That bandsaw project looks like fun. Some of those pieces look pretty heavy duty, at least compared to what they sell now-a-days...

Office looks great. It would be comfortable to work in there, (but funner working in the garage on old tools and patina stuff)

That thing weighed 150# when it was together. Just getting it on the bench was a chore!!

I'm gonna experiment with patina a little bit. Don't know if I can pull it off or not:headscrat.

The place is looking great TB66! You're getting a ton done there on the interior and still have time to mess with the tools. Awesome. And the office looks like a great place to kick back and read the latest posts on GJ  (Assuming a computer is in the plan - looks like maybe a TV in there right now?)

Thanks shopnut! The whole idea of that room is to have a cool place to kick back. I do have a TV hooked up to cable and I've got an ethernet cable for the computer. It all works too:thumbup:!!

tinbender, the place looks pretty cozy. I recall looking at your pics when I first came to GJ but I never subscribed or commented. Frankly I'm a little jealous of the guys who get to decorate their garage from scratch. Very good work

Thanks Girl, I'm having some serious fun. Of course, the place would be done by now, albeit in very "pedestrian" fashion if I hadn't stumbled on this place:).

I got a coat of the Deft on last night. Because of the inability to get natural light in there this pic looks just like the 'before' pics:mad:. You'll just have to take my word for it that it looks a lot better now. It could use another coat but I'll have to get another gallon. First coat sucked that one up!! Man that stuff stinks!!! I wore my respirator while doing it. I went out there later and it about knocked me over.

Every little thing I tried to do today seemed to take forever. Just one of those days when nothing would go right:(. So I decided to do something a little fun.

I've had this Mr. Gasket shift handle since I bought my 1960 Corvette when I was just a pup (a 'while' ago). I bought a long half inch bolt with threads all the way, removed a board, drilled a hole and now I have a high performance towel holder:D.

More fun:thumbup:. I've never worked so hard to make something look like ****:). A couple false starts and it's gettin' there. Not done yet!! I'm gonna put a 'wash' on it. Modelers will know what that means, the rest of you will have to guess. Not sure what color yet. Black or maybe rust?? Then a couple more steps but I had to order some stuff for that.

Here it is so far:

Paul the towel rack is AWESOME and the door is looking good as well . I think your right a wash should just about do it :D.

Rick

Thanks Rick...........sometimes spur of the moment works out:)

I told ya that Deft is nasty! Don't sit in your office watching TV for a few days or you'll start thinking like Homer Simpson, doh! lol

3 days and it's starting to abate. I was careful, I don't have a lot of brain cells to spare:D

Paul,

Nice job on that towel holder!

The door will take shape...but I definitely lol'ed at your descrption. I've felt like that several times when doing work out in my place. Especially when I slathered on all the mud that goes on the drywall seams that seemed to take forever:D. I still have splotches all over the floor from that **** and it looks awful.

If you want a real 'aging'...one option might be to paint the door all nice like you want, then just take it off and throw it in the woods for the winter. Go grab it in the Spring and bolt it on and see how it looks:)

I'm actually not kidding haha...I'm planning to do that with some wood panels that I want to get that aged, old time worn out look on.

Thanks Dave! I guess I could strip all the paint off it, put it in the bushes and just let it rust for a while. But, since winter is upon us and it's the door to the only warm place in the garage, I'll just have to fake it.

On a sour note, I broke my camera, so no pics until next week:mad:. Funny, I feel like I should do nothing until I remedy this.

Paul how big are those checkers behind the items for size referance . The first thought that came to my mind was to weld them together with a dish ontop for a soap dish but they may not be large enough for that option.

If those are from a Merlin, they are BIG. At least compared to car parts.

My first thought on the valve finger is a door handle. Polish it up a little and your will be the only one on the block (or in the state). The valve may be another towel holder like you first really cool one!

And that door looks much more at home now. A light rust wash into the corners will help highlight the details and make it pop. Then we need to work on the stark white door frame. Maybe a Caramel color would tie it all in with the wood and the door,

Very cool towel holder.

As for the valves I also thought door handle. But it doesn't seem quite right there.

That valve is 5'' tall and the finger is 4½" long. I really don't want to weld them together as they are kinda "keepsakes".

Thanks Jeff. I got those pieces several years ago at the Reno air races for $10 each just because I thought they were cool. I'll think of something or just keep them on a shelf.

Thanks on the towel holder. That thing was kickin' around for a loooong time. The other parts I'll have to do some thinkin':)

That looks great TB66  Cool idea. And I bet you didn't even have to do your fancy inset red paint job on it (like on the saw parts) as I seem to recall those shifter handles coming with either red or black logos right out of the box :)
