Rick, I don't think Paul will be working himself out of projects too soon. Especially if we keep throwing new ideas a him. I think he still has some copper work suggestions to consider...

Thanks Rick. I'm really itching to get going on the car. A while back someone posted a thread on a poor man's rotisserie. I think I'm gonna build a version of that. Thankfully, I don't have anything but surface rust to deal with.

TB,
Pedal rhymes with metal...just, you know...FYI.

Ha! Looks great...yeah...a little copper urinal right?

Shaun

"Wood is good", "metal is pedal". Something not quite right there:headscrat.

With some P51 homage nonetheless;)

You guys aren't gonna leave me alone 'til I make a copper pissoire are ya?:lol_hitti

Nope, the urinal is still on our '4U-to-do-list'. As to the homage intent, won't it have to be 'Pee-51'? :lol_hitti

Oh, by the by, as long as we are talking about homage and the '4U-to-do-list', a nice bathroom accessory would be a towel rack. This one however, would be a hand-crafted copper propeller blade and hub-nut cone cover. I'll bet that little item would test your skills as a Tin Bender! LOL

Paul dont feel bad I am working towards getting my 62 F100 into the garage so I can start on it and I will be doing the " wood butcher " rotissery myself . I have PLENTY of rust to deal with plus a custom chassis to build .

No we wont let you off the hook on the copper Pee-51 :D.

So much stuff in the way.

Paul,
I think we have all been or still are in that boat. I think one of my next small projects is to get dollies under everything that doesn't move easily. Actually getting really tired of it.

I would think twice about going with a copper urinal, might result in a "peeing patina" over the years. :wtf:

Yeah, I've got a laundry list of things that need wheels:).

I've been working on finishing from north to south so everything that doesn't have a permanent home is in the last bay. Not looking forward to getting there.

T.B. - You know we won't let up until you capitulate, break out the tin snips, the ball peeing hammer, and get to work on what may become your piss'de'la'resistance, the shinning hallmark of your craft, the centerpiss of your shop, the urin-all-to-end-all, the envy of all beer drinkers, and quite possibly the most highly coveted product of your second career!

Well, amidst all this talk of copper crappers and whatnot, I've just gotta say that I really like the way the walls are looking. I might have said it before, but they're really bitchin. I wanna do mine the same way, with similar materials. Rock on Paul.

Thanks fergus! I'm really likin' it too. And the only investment so far is gas for the truck and pressure washer. I'm about outta boards right now so the hunt is on. I've gotten most of them from the same fence builder. It's usually quite a hike to get them but what the heck. My dog loves to go for rides:).

Geez, let me see:

OFFICE:

Sheetrock ceiling.
Trim out windows/doors.
Floor.
Paint desk.

BATHROOM:

Finish plumbing (just needs valves, hwt hooked up)
Dry well so I can at least have gray water.
Septic system (spring/summer '12).

GARAGE:

More lights (have wiring in for 10 more 8' T-8's on 2 more circuits).
Finish plumbing and counter for shop sink.
Mass storage/organization.
Insulate roof.
GD weatherstripping.
Propane unit heater.
Speakers.
Urethane floor (big maybe).
Get all Deltas up and running.
Bigger compressor.

This is just off the top of my head. I won't be running out of things to do for a while:lol_hitti.

tinbender, I just read thru the entire thread & all I can say is amazing. I don't know where to start. The shop, the wood walls, all the restored machines, its just amazing. You put so much detail into everything. VERY VERY nice work.

I do have a question for you. I do alot of polishing myself & i've tried to "paint in" recessed areas like you did on some of your machines, then buff the paint away on the raised areas but I always seem to get into the paint & screw it up unless the recesses are really deep. What kind of buffing wheel are you using & what's your secret??

Wow, thanks for the kind words KF5LCH!!!

As for the buffing, I'm not sure what I do lol. I usually start with the 3M EXL wheel (I love that thing). Then I go to a 3/4 (I think) muslin buffing wheel. One for tripoli and another one for the pink rouge. I put the compound on fairly heavy and it fills in the painted areas and maybe protects them (?). I also use fairly light pressure.

Check the link below for compounds, buffing wheels and a really good tips section.

HOTROD DESK

It's a gray, ugly, rainy day here in the great PNW:(. I moped around yesterday so it was time to break the funk.

Started working on my office desk. Just the drawers so far. I'll have to drag it out into the garage and do some disassembly to do the rest. I'll wail on it this week.

Of course I had to polish the hardware:). Here's a before and after on the drawer handles. I think they look a little better in person because my eyes aren't rated at 14 megapixels.

I did the drawers in flat black. Not sure on the main color yet. I want to see what's available maybe in the hammered stuff.

I was digging around some cupboards in the old shop and found another shift handle. B&M this time. Shined it up a little. Maybe I can hang on to it when we have our earthquake:D.

Took some time during the monsoons yesterday to tidy up the garage doors. I had already painted the doors white and the hinges, etc. black so I decided to paint the tracks and hangars with some Rustoleum satin black. It was done with a brush. It would have been nearly impossible to protect it if I sprayed it. The doors (used) are a little beat up. I may skin them with aluminum or something someday.

Those tracks look nice, I still need to finish mine.

That desk is lookin good, too. Looks like I will need to break out the buffing wheels and attack something. Those handles are sharp. And, +2 on the 1/4 speed improvemene.

TinBender, the shop looks great. Are the walls just recycled 1x6 cedar fence boards? It really looks nice. And I love the idea of recycling the lumber. Plus everytime I see more pics I have Kramer from Seinfeld in my head. "Wood Jerry, Wood!" "It's like a ski lodge in there."

Thanks Jeff, that's just another idea I got from you guys.

Get those wheels out! Making things shiny is good therapy:),

That looks awesome.

Thanks a lot Jack. I appreciate it!!

Thanks PBRman!

Yes, they're just recycled fence boards that I scrounged. Then I pressure wash them, dry them out and stick 'em on the wall. I just got a line on a whole barn's worth. I think enough to finish. I hope:).

nice photos... thanks for sharing guys...

Thanks for the comment scarsia and thanks for looking.
