Yup... definitely diggin' the desk and the cabinets. You know, speaking of that last bay, it just means you get to start going back north while filling in all the overlooked spaces!

New cabinets are looking good and it also looks like that nut and bolt drawer unit taking up valuable bench space would fit perfect under the fridge cabinet .

Thanks Rick. That nut and bolt thing will fit just right up there. It will be a little high though but I guess if I want something out of it I can just pull a drawer. The drawers are labeled.

I finished hanging the cabinets this morning. It's warmed up to 38° here today. Ignore the mismatched one on the right please. It was left from my last acquisition and it fit the space perfectly. If I can't score a somewhat matching one I'll look for some doors. I know Habitat Restore has loose doors. I can't just leave it like that haha.

On a completely off topic note we recently acquired a couple of new "friends". The gray one has been here about 3 weeks and the siamese lookin' one about a week. They're all settled in and just going berserk. Great fun!!!

Cabinets looks incredible. I love the color coordination you've got going on.

How are you going to trim out the sides of the upper cabinets? More fence boards?

I love cats, hate litter boxes.

Best thing I ever did was install a dog door. After teaching the italian greyhounds to use it, I taught the cats. (removed the flap to get them used to it.

Now, I have no litter box!

Yeah, more fence boards will cover the exposed parts of that wall. Also, there will be pegboard from the bottom of the cabinets to the work bench.

I'm on a roll here. A small roll. I've had a box full of track light stuff for several years. Garage sale of course. I've got 5 48" tracks and a dozen light cans. I took two tracks and 4 lights, painted them and put them up temporarily to make sure they worked ok. They work ok.

I need to put up some blocking to mount them solidly, then wire them to a switch. I'll just get power from the last outlet on that run. Don't know if that's correct but at this point I'm the inspector.

Just a thought on the unmatched cabinet doors... If they bother you that much, they may actually work with the others if they were both centered or one on each end of the bank of cabinets.

Or put cork board on them and use them as a bulletin board. If they can't blend in, accent them.

I'm usually all for symmetry, but this time I was thinking it would look good left as-is. I'm on board with 'accent them'. Would be a good place to distinguish odd or items that don't fit in easily elsewhere...

Then again, maybe that's why it was _just_ a thought! Regardless, I'm sure something neat will come of them. Can't wait to see what.

Thanks Ggirl!! I started out saving receipts etc. but I forgot some and then just gave up. I have no idea what it's cost me to build this thing. Whatever it was/is, it's worth it.

The little Siamese is a dead ringer for a 14 yo cat we lost a couple months ago to kidney failure.

Ya know fergus, I've had the same thought. But while it may have risen above pedestrian status in terms of style, it's still very much pedestrian in terms of dollars spent. It was going to just be a big insulated box 'til I stumbled upon this site. Then I started thinking of ways to make it a little nicer without breaking the bank. I take your observation as a compliment btw. Thanks man..........

For stuff like the cabinets I use Ace Premium enamel. The stuff doesn't seem to care what the temp is. I still dries really fast.

To go along with Wingnut65's great suggestion on the doors, I saw Call me the Breeze install whiteboard on the faces of his doors for sketching and such. Seemed like a good idea if you like doodling and if you can make the white work somehow.

Or maybe some kind of blackboard and fluorescent markers like the restaurants display their daily specials on - might match your black color scheme nicely.

Today I kinda finished up what I started the last couple days.

Got the track lights mounted solidly, wired them through a switch and shot a bit of flat black on the bottom of the cabinets.

I also got that hardware bin put up. It's got 9 lags through the back into solid framing then 4 3/8 bolts through the bottom of the cabinet with big washers. It seems to be real solid. It's a little high but I can reach all the drawers without having to climb. I like it.

I spent some time cleaning the dump up too.

Another whiteboard idea is to use a piece of white gloss laminate. Can be cut to size and contact glued to almost anything. Use regular dry erase markers.

It's 21° here today so far but I'm gonna see if I can get the two cabinets installed to replace that desk that the DP is on. Then not much happens 'til after Christmas.

My birthday is coming () the end of January and I'm usually rather generous to myself so we'll see what happens.

I did get the two cabinets installed where the desk was that I had the drill press and grinder on. I never liked that desk. The counter top came with a couple of cabinets I got a while back. It's 4" too short so that will get changed to a proper top after the holidays.

Here you can see the too short top. If you add up all the cabinets I've installed so far it comes to exactly $100. Plus some gasoline, paint and the handles. Still not too bad.

I like the idea of boxing between the poles to attach the siding to. I think the use of old boards is awesome! Fairly new on GJ, but it is taking up my evenings now looking at all of the awesome ideas!

Like you, the main reason I went with a pole building was price. It allowed me to get a roof and a floor done right away and then finish it out as funds became available. I didn't know it would take this long but it's on the home stretch now.

As for the lights, I guess in their present location they would be task lights. I hope to do a lot of tasks on that bench.

Believe me, I'm looking every day!! One will turn up eventually. That Jet I have was my Dad's. It's probably about 25 years old, made in Japan. It's a really heavy duty machine. It just doesn't "pop" like an old one. I'll prolly keep it though.

Everything is kind of in limbo 'til after Christmas although I did put some left over OSB on the wall between the bench and the upper cabs in prep for some pegboard next week.
