Paul, your office is looking like a 'Gentleman's Lounge'! All that's missing is a tobacco humidor, a rack of pipes, and (of course), a brass (OR COPPER) spittoon! lol

P.S. - You might want to update your wall calendar; it's no longer October! (heh-heh)

I've always considered losing track of time a really good thing - means you're busy, having fun, or both!

Looks nice and cozy in that office there tinbender_66. And I'm glad to hear that you're not getting creeped out anymore when it gets dark out. (You know the monsters don't really go away just because you close the shades, don't ya? :D)

Awesome garage TB !!!

Just spent 4 hours reading through the whole thread and I'm definitely inspired by how you have finished the garage with the fence boards, the "old" tools and the copper urinal (hehehe !!).

BTW, what happened to the Chevy II ?? Looks like it got replaced with another car !!

October, February, 2012, 2013...............time stands still here. I wish.

Well thanks for telling me that! I'll keep the door locked for sure!

Man...its looking like that office belongs to somebody with class...

You sure that's your place?

:D:D:D

It's my little 12 x 12 fantasy world.

I'm humbled that you would spend 4 hours on my meanderings! Thanks! It's all GJ's fault.

The Chevy II went bye bye. It sat too long without any real progress so I let it go. Didn't want to be one of those "I'm gonna restore it some day" guys. The G-body Malibu was a partial trade. Not sure if I'm gonna do anything with it or not. I ain't gettin' any younger so I might just sell that too and go buy a Corvette or something. Not sure yet.

Kinda sad but it became clear that a five year or so project wasn't what I wanted. Here it is at the start of it's new journey.....

What a great place, I love what you have done there. In trying to look through all the posts..., I must have missed it, but was are the dimensions of the building?

Nice work on the office, TB. So, how is the ceiling going? A good ceiling could conceal the spider and monster hiding spaces up there as well. Just a thought...

Besides the calendar, was it really 3:15 am in that shot?

Enjoyed reading about your "Pedestrian" garage (every page... a little bit every night after my rugrats went to bed for a few days in a row). ;) Must say it's VERY Well done :thumbup: Am looking forward to seeing how you progress (& of course, I subscribed).

FWIW, I try to recycle, reuse, or repurpose everything I can as well. While it seems to me that you've done pretty well on Craigslist, was wondering if you have looked for a "FreeCycle" chapter out there? Can't tell you how many things I've gotten (& given away) thru that site. (It's a lot like Craigslist, but everything must be freely given away.) Originally found the 3 local ones I'm subscribed to by checking out FreeCycle.org and typing in my city.

Another great source of "inexpensive stuff" for me has been auctions: schools, colleges, bankrupt businesses, estate sales, military surplus, etc. (made a friend of several auctioneers, so they call me whenever something I might be interested in is coming up). Have found that cold, wet, miserable days are usually the days I get the very best deals. ;)

Beautiful country up there, hope you're warmed up for spring by now. :)

No ceiling yet. Nothing new at the moment. Went back to work for a while. More money but no time. I suppose it could have been 3 am. Sometimes when iI'm into something I forget about the time.

Thanks for checkin' this thing out! I checked out FreeCycle for this area and there is one in this county and another in the next. Haven't signed up yet but I probably will. I've got some stuff I wouldn't mind sending to a new home.

We got a real nice taste of spring last week but now it's back to scud. Such is life up here. There should be some good progress here over the summer. I hope. Stay tuned.

I'm not sure about your side of the pond, but there's sometimes some great stuff that pops up on Freecycle here...definitely worth the free membership!

I just spend about 3 days, slowly during down time, reading through this entire thread. This is one of the best garages I've come across. I've been reading through different threads for quite some time, and you have done quite an exceptional job. I hope all is well, and I thank you sir for the entertainment your build has given me over the past few days.

Paul just checkin' in to see how the shop is going!

Yeah how is it going, any updates ??

Thanks for checkin' in! Not much happening around here for a while now. I went back to work for a while so time has been short to get anything done except get the property back in shape after winter, split wood etc. I'm taking most of July and August off so hopefully I'll get something accomplished. Mainly finish insulating, finish the office and get some dang heat in here.

I did get a feeler from a magazine editor about putting it in his mag but I'll post that if it becomes a reality.

Stay tuned.

Insulation and heat! You will love your shop this winter. Predicting a cold nasty winter this year in the PacNoWest. Really enjoy all that you have accomplished around your property.

Thanks ville04. I barely had two nickels to rub together when I started this thing but I got tired of waiting 'til I had enough to do it all so I just got started. It looked like a big picnic shed for quite a while!

Ah yes, heat! It is completely insulated except for the overhead which will be a bit of a chore but it should go pretty fast. Can't wait.

Thanks for checking in Ody.

After a suitable amount of prodding by my friends here I've accomplished a couple of things.

I finally covered up the office ceiling. I used cheapo "whitewood" boards with a little bit of stain. Methinks it came out pretty good. Better than looking at the insulation.

For the time being I went to an interior place in town and got a carpet remnant for eight bucks.

The stereo that was in the office was too much for that little room. I've got a nice set of Bose speakers for the computer that do just fine in here.

So, I moved the other stereo out into the garage. A Denon tuner/amp, Sony disc changer and some ENERGY speakers that kick big sound. Don't know why I didn't do this sooner!

Maybe I'm starting to roll again. Right now I have to hang on to a little money because I'm booked to go to Reno in Sept. for the air races. Can't wait for that one either:D.

Your shop/office looks great!

Good to see the changes too.

Did you get around to installing heat?

Have a ton of fun in Reno. Air races are on my "bucket list" for sure.

Thanks Ody...........the only heat so far is in that office. I'll just keep pickin' away at the rest of it and it'll be done soon as possible.

A friend and I have been going to the air races about every other year since around '85. If you want to go you need to reserve nlt the end of May to get a room and a decent flight if you're not driving. It would be a fun drive in any one of your cars! I'll throw up a pic of two when I get back. Thanks for dropping in.

Thank vtec,
"Zing" is a new adjective for this place. I like it! This project is in it's ninth year. Can't believe that much time has passed. But if I waited until I had all the money it would have never gotten started. Of course taking that long means renewing permits etc. but in the end it's been worth all the hassle.

Paul, the office/gentleman's club room looks very inviting; nicely done!

I'm glad to hear that your have heat in there; that six-string would suffer with the cold damp NW seasons. What is that anyway, a D-28 perhaps?

For once, I can't take any credit for that. I've been going easy on ya! (But I would be happy to start poking again now that I see it's an effective method :))

Well, there is nothing "cheapo" looking about that ceiling. Very nicely done!

Hey Tin,
Just got back from Reno. I left some money there, so if you find it, let me know. ;)

Welllllllll,Warren, if I find your money I'll definately "take care" of it for you!!

I've had heat in that room for quite some time. Before that it stayed in the house. It's a Fender F-85. Not an expensive guitar, but a good one.

Thanks shopnut. That ceiling just proves that I will do almost anything to avoid sheetrock!

Its been a long time since I checked in and I am several pages behind, but I will be catching up tonite I promise.
It was your post on putting up old wood on your office walls that influenced me to tear down an old fence in my yard and put it on the walls of my man cave
Thank you

Your ceiling and floor look very inviting and I am a real fan of track lighting all looks great

Thanks Shaun,
Leaving for Reno and the air races in the am (Thurs. 9-12) neener, neener.

Very nice. I wish we were neighbors. YOu have talent.

Thanks Xicaque! The guy at the end of my lane lost his house and it's up for auction so you could be my neighbor!

Good to see you Dave! I've kinda been out of the loop too. Too much to accomplish around the property before winter sets in. Thanks for the compliment!

I just spent some time at work (shhhh..don't tell the boss man) and some time after putting the little one to bed following the entire thread.
Jealous, indeed.

I'm stuck in town for the foreseeable future with intentions on moving to some rural family land an hour away.

I'll have a shop similar to yours (hopefully). I'm not getting any younger (41 at last count) so this housing market better turn for the good at a pretty snappy rate.

I've shamed myself into working on my attached 2-car mess after lurking at GJ for some months.
Insert shameless thread plug here:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=214169&highlight=mess

I'd really like to find a unique wall covering for my existing drywall. I don't have any leads on massive board feet like your fence guy.

I'm also searching for a unique floor covering that will save me from stripping/etching a painted concrete floor and sinking $ into epoxy (that might not stick) or RaceDeck (that is so far out of my non-existent budget it ain't even funny).

Anyhoo - awesome job and I love the vintage tool refurbs!
I, too, scour CL nearly daily for deals and steals.

Keep up the great work and keep the picts coming.

Thx

Just finished reading....fantastic job! You've got a nice spot with the land, house, and the other two buildings. The garage is quite impressive - love the layout and feel of it, and the office area is perfect. It puts my detatched 2-car garage and my underground lair (unfinished basement) to shame.

I am lucky enough to have found one of those Craftsman bandsaws with the Slo-Speed converter - I wanted the saw anyway but that thing sealed the deal. Mine's similar to fergus's, but without the metal case unfortunately:

http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190510

Keep your eyes on CL, they're out there!
