I have no idea what to actually call my garage, but right now, it's a disaster. We moved into this house about five years ago and quickly set out to fix a few of the other issues with the house (a roof, yard, bedroom remodel, etc). The bedroom remodel is finally coming to a close and since the garage was a home for pretty much anything related to that bedroom and a drop zone for everything else, it's time to tackle some organization.

I actually came across GJ while searching for organization tips and stumbled upon Woodys insane work on his shed (I have a shed of the same size, but that's for another thread/day). So after perusing countless threads, I knew I couldn't just slap some insulation in, throw up some shelves and call it good.
-------------
So it's actually kind of embarrassing to post these photos. It's a mess, not hoarding status, but getting there, lol. I've got a **** ton of hobbies and have always lacked decent organization. Part of the problem has been a shed in the back and this garage and no clear choice for what goes where. Yard stuff in both places, motorcycle stuff in both places, etc.

My plan is to clean up the basic issues with the garage, wall by wall. The insulation in this house is a joke and I've fallen in love with roxul. So with each wall I get to, old drywall or lathe will get removed, new insulation added in, electrical updated if needed and then decided what goes on that wall and sticking with it.

So enjoy the photos and feel free to jump in and offer suggestions. This will be a somewhat slow process, but I'm excited to post this here to keep me motivated. Oh and sorry for the distortion/large size, had the wide angle on the camera.

Part of the garage was remodeled at some point. But no insulation and just looks rough in my opinion, will all be removed eventually. You can see where I've started to replace some insulation on the right side.

The previous owner did have some "okay" shelves put above the garage door and while they've worked surprisingly well, I want something better. This also has me thinking about removing the opener completely or getting one of the newer styled ones that's mounted on the wall next to the door.

This was a shelf I built sometime in the first year we were in the house. It sticks out about the same distance as the bricks and has worked pretty well. I'm not sure if that will stay or not, but everything behind it will be getting replaced. That's actually the next wall on the list after the corner is finished.

As far as we know, we're the third owners of this house. The couple that built the home in the 40's stayed here until they died sometime in the 90's or 00's. Then someone else moved in and tried to fix up some stuff. Stuff like this is still around from the original owners and while kinda cool, is just more stuff for me to burn, recycle or take to the landfill. That's a wifi camera looking into the side yard with some deep south engineering :p

This is how we currently get into the attic. My goal is to have at least a ladder of some sort, if not one of those pulldown stairs so the girlfriend can get up there without too much hassle.

When we moved into the house, there was a oil furnace/boiler system sitting here. The old drywall was probably a slab of lung cancer and yeah, it was nice to get it out of there since it never worked and just took up space. We had some extra roxul from the bedroom remodel and this is where I'm at. The girlfriend says I'm not allowed to do anymore work in the garage until the bedroom is done, but this is where I'll be starting once I get approval :p

And since I'm sure someone will ask. 2006 Triumph Scrambler. Bike of my dreams that I saved up for. It's been sitting for the last month or so with stupid amounts of time at work and crappy pnw weather, but I love this bike so much and am excited to have a clean place to work on it eventually.

Based on the title, I was thinking this would be about the flooding.

What a relief!

You don't really have much of a mess. And I'm an expert in messes.

But you are at a point where you can go either way. You can let it go, or start making it a bit of a show place.

It will be interesting to see what you do.

I saw your post over in my garage. Yours is a far cry from a disaster! Looks like a really good structure and a good start. I always find that the garage is always the last to take care of, or given the least amount of attention just because you aren't actually living there. I think this forum can agree, that we all wish it was a place where we could call living space.

Looks like you could take advantage of a good amount of ceiling space to hang bicycles from.
Do you have plans for a workbench or wall storage? Might be a good idea to look into a wall mounted cabinet system to replace the 2x4 shelving unit you have. Having a doors on your storage area hides your mess. It can make a world of a difference than open storage.

Any plans for a layout?

Looks like a good structure though! Do you have any updates or current pictures?

Definitely lots of potential there. The wallpaper pieces sure are oddly interesting. It's funny that they were repurposed in such a way.

Oh, and I see it's time to lube the chain on your bike.:D
