So, after toiling for years and making your way, you finally have enough money that you built your dream shop right? RIGHT!!!

But you couldn't have done it without the support of your lovely wife....so why not get her the most mediocre lawn chair possible to watch your NEW big screen TV with!?!?:bounce:

I'm with Schmo. Whatever meager garage toys I have is in spite of the wife, not because of her.

I think that lawnchair is rather weak myself...but then again my wife is awesome with me and my car stuff (helped design my garage and figure out what stuff/cars/etc would fill it best for the budget). Sounds like I'm in the minority...then again she is one of the few women that come with me to car events.

Something else to consider (if it's anything like my place) is that attached all of these garages are houses containing kitchens etc. that cost alot more than the most overdone man caves. I have a nice garage, but my better half has an even nicer house.

My wife does not come out to my man cave, but if she did and I treated her shabbily, I better have a bed out there to sleep on at night and a stove on which to fix my meals.

I think the plan is like McDonald's furniture, looks okay and good enough to sit on for awhile but uncomfortable enough not to want to linger.

See - I think the food and sleeping provisions need to be near the top of every guy's garage priority list....

Of course the grill is outside and is my domain anyway, but if it gets really bad, the extra bed is parked next to the garage (RV) - bathroom, kithcen, satellite, A/C and heat give me near year round refuge/hiding from her wrath :lol_hitti

HeLLLL's Yeah! You gotta scratch hard to score those toys. She thinks that I can fix the cars, the house, and any appliance with "that wrench set your dad got you for Christmas." You know, the tiny cheap one that someone else got him last year for Christmas, with flames all over the handles?

I've been trying to convince my wife that to re-stain the deck I'm gonna need a tig welder. She ain't buying it, though.:wtf:

My wife probably won't spend any time in my shop but she is very supportive and welcome out there any time...

Of course you need a new tig welder to re-stain the deck! How could she see otherwise? But then again, with a new tig welder, deck-staining drops WAY down on the priority list!

I think those old style lawn chairs are awesome compared to the newer, articulating fold-up camp chairs. Not only are they more comfortable, but I have one in my garage I bought at the grocery store 10 years ago for 8 bucks that has outlasted several of those new camping chairs because it's all aluminum, especially at the joints. Whereas the new camp chairs have the molded plastic joints at the feet that explode if you sit down fast.

That was almost the first thing the wife put in when we "finished" (of course it is no where near finished) the garage. She went a little different route, but it was only $10.

I have also of course added Alphie, the 8 point.

She now sits in the chair and watches Alphie as we don't have the TV in yet...

That garage sure is purty to look at but I bet no work gets done there. It's just a show place.

I have to agree, this shop is nothing more than a showroom, He most likely does only basic work, look the guy only has a 20 gallon compressor. lol A shop like that should have a huge compressor unless he has one with it's own room....hmmm

My wife comes to the man **** shed anytime she wants. The problems is, it is the gathering place for all that come to visit. We spend vary little time in the house when people come over. She wonders why everyone gravitates to my domain instead of hers???

Some of you guys are way too cynical. With a lift, tire changer, and balancer, I bet some work gets done there. How many people do you know with those machines that ONLY change their tires and do no other work on their cars?

Also, that 30 gallon compressor can do just about anything you need to do. Hell, I've sandblasted an entire frame with one. Yeah, it's pretty, no I wouldn't build one like that, but it doesn't mean it doesn't get used.

Well, the only problem I have with that argument is the fact that the garage is obviously designed like a service station so the tire changer/balancer could be part of the display.

He's not doing serious stuff in there without a press or a crane.

But maybe he goes through a LOT of tires with that vette. :)

I'm not saying it isn't possible, but I didn't have any of that for quite a while, and did a fair amount of work.

There are very few automotive things that a press/crane is truly NEEDED for. I've rebuilt engines without a crane or engine stand.

True. Rebuilding an engine without a stand must have been a pain though.

I just don't see this guy doing that kind of thing in there. Just a guess.

I would like to have a tire changer/balancer though. When you have enough cars and you drive all the time, they start to become something that would be nice to have. I'm just so tired of dealing with tire monkeys, too.

I like his place and they way he designed it. At least it looks like you could do stuff in there if you wanted to versus some of the other obvious show garages on there.

Yes, it was a pain. 302 ford built in a 3rd floor apartment living room, with a few basic tools. Desperate times, desperate measures. pulled heads in car, used a 4x4 post and two guys on each side of it to pull the engine with a fifth doing the bolts. We used the same said 4x4 and 4 guys to carry it up to the third floor, tore it down, carried everything back down to get machined, carried it back up, built the motor, carried it back down and put it back in with 4 guys holding it, then put the heads on.:wtf:

We were in college, young and stupid, and worked for beer...

OMG, that is nuts. I thought replacing my alternator and engine wiring in a snow storm was bad. Yikes.

Well, personally, I prefer to work in a clean space. Even though I don't have a nice floor now, when my new garage is finished, I plan to keep it as absolutely clean as possible. With a really good epoxy floor, it's not as hard as you may think.

When you've been working in this for the last 10 years:

The desire for a clean spacious work space becomes pathalogical.

Fortunately for us, we're almost through the porcess of buying a new house with an existing 3 car garage which I want to expand with an additional 35'x40' addition:

Believe me, this will be one of the most well kept garages on the planet.
