I’ve moved from Michigan to Mississippi to work for Edelbrock about a year ago now. In the process I left a really great 40X40 garage behind but in good hands!

the permit process this time was completely painless. The garage is actually in the front of my house which technically should have required a variance but the county acknowledged that and gave me the permit anyway. All in all dealing with the government in Mississippi has been a pleasant experience. I can’t say the same about Michigan.

In the aerial view below the garage is going in 15 ft north of the east to west portion of my driveway.

and a picture of the spot before anything started.

A week ago the site prep was completed. If I had it to do over I probably would have bought a tractor and done the dirt work myself. I see one in my future anyway.

And a week later after taking some half days off of work all my posts are in the ground and I’m just about ready for trusses.

I decided to extend the roof another 16 ft to build a 16X36 open port for parking my 28ft trailer. Hence the +. I managed to safely get 16 foot posts home in the back of my truck with 8.5 feet in the bed and tailgate and 7.5 hanging out.

Little update.

Bar joists are in. Walked them up the horizontal 2x6s and strapped them to the posts as we lifted the opposite side up.

I was hoping to be able to put the trusses up by hand but I’m thinking it will be best to get a crane truck in here to do the heavy lifting.F822FBBF-6D7D-4115-931B-8D98D6A73BF7.jpeg

I built a wooden truss for the carport on the end to that it would not hang down very far and I could get taller thinks under it. I wound up paying way too much for the materials because I needed to have it done quick and right in order for it to be ready for the guys I hired to put the trusses in.

may any rate I got it done in time. The crew came today and got the trusses up in about 4 hours. And I got to help! And even drive the skid steer a bit!

A little update. My brother and I managed to get almost all of the roof purlins in. Also, I got the concrete floor poured.

I’m considering hiring out the rest of the work as we are both a little weary about being up on the purlins while we fasten the steel.

Thanks for the kind comments.

I spent a little time yesterday pulling back some of the lumber the concrete guys tools down. It was a mud pit out there so I called it a short day.

The next steps are all roof work. I think I’m going to relax for a while and wait for the rest of the concrete to be completed. Once that’s done I can rent a scissor lift fairly in expensively and should be able to do some damage with a little time off work.
