The Practice Garage, (10'x12' workshop)

My plans to build a garage keep getting shoved back because of a few simple issues... time, money, kids, work, etc, etc. I know it's going to be possible one of these days, but in the meantime, my shed workshop has been over-run with storage, bikes, tools, junk, you name it. So until I can build my dream garage, I at least needed a separate work space. I also wanted practice on framing a structure, hence "The Practice Garage".

I started out by setting 9 concrete pads into the ground, from there I framed up the floor with treated 2x8', and finally treated 3/4" ply to top it off.

Next I framed up the walls and stood them up.

Framing the Peak walls.

I designed this with a structural ridge, so I could eliminate the joist ties and have a nice tall open interior. The roof load is transferred from the ridge beam to the side walls.

Thanks MichaelBikel. I'm somewhere in the $2500 range, that will be all aluminum soffits and fascia, 2 windows, asphalt shingles & vinyl siding. The door is a freebie, I removed it from my house.

Are the pics working for you guys? They work on my computer, but not my phone.

I seem to be having a picture issue, so I've attached them two ways, one is straight from my GJ photo album, and also as an uploaded attachment. Hopefully they work for you.

Here is the framing all finished up, working on installing the OSB.

And next I started wrapping everything in tar paper. My son is helping out installing the screws around the window.

Before I did the roof, I wrapped all the fascia and soffit in aluminum.

35 year architectural shingles, so much easier to use than the old 3 tabs.

Here is the exterior all finished, last thing I want to do is paint the door and the wood around the base.

But the painting will have to wait, on Saturday we got our first snow, looks like winter is officially here! Oh, and I cracked the top window installing it, gotta love when that happens. That's why its not all the way "installed" in the picture. I'm working on a replacement for it, should get it done in the next few days.

Great work, I'm in the planning stages of building a garden shed for the back yard, and your build is some great inspiration. My wife wants our shed to look like a mini Cape, with dormers and a front porch and everything.

Thanks for the comments!
jonnyc1999, I went back and forth about putting on a covered porch. I would have had to bump the size up, or at least raise the roof up some to make it look right. In the end I figured I just needed to get it done and stop "adding on". I still need to add a step or small deck outside the door.

Got the window made, took about 6 hours or so.
Here you can see my pattern I drew out, and some of the stained glass is cut.

All glass is cut, ready for the grinder, to clean up the edges.

And fast forward to the completed window. I didn't take any pics of the assembly, but I use the "old school" method of lead came. I like the look of smooth lead lines over the copper foil/solder method. Also this picture shows how much different the color of the glass is with light behind it, compared to when it's laying down on the table.

I'm still hoping to get it installed this weekend.
