Hello all - new GJ guy here. Spending time in my "shop" is one of my most favorite things, so I think I've found my support group. :)

My shop is also my garage. It's a 24x30 post frame building with a new 12-foot lean-to roof off the West wall (12 x 30 feet), under which I keep the fishing boat, ATV, mowers, etc. I built that myself last year, and couldn't be happier with the extra space. This year, I want to add on the back of the existing building, making room for our little travel trailer (a 1961 "canned ham" camper), and additional wrenching room.

Here's the view facing the north end of the garage. Fits 2 cars (4Runner and Prius), plus most of our stored items. Our house is only 1,000 sq ft, with no basement and very few closets. So, most things get stored out here in the garage.

When we first moved in, it was apparent that a storage solution was needed in the garage. I built a 2/3rd's length mezzanine on each long side, and a full-width (24 x 6 feet) mezzanine along the back wall. This is where all of our "stuff" is.

Currently, I have some make-shift workbenches, a cycle lift (with what's left of a torn-apart GSXR-750), a couple of HF tool chests, a drill press, table saw, jointer, and other miscellany. The building isn't heated or insulated, so it's not a pleasant place to be in times like this (we haven't been much above zero for all of February). I'd like to change that at some point. We need to decide if we are living here for longer than a couple years, before I go throwing money at this.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll update this thread as I take photos and build stuff. Good to be here!

Looks like a real cozy shop area. The storage you built is a plus. That is indeed an interesting building, and it is very shop-like. From the photo looks like lighting is not an issue. I like it, and look forward to more photos and see what you do with the place.

Thanks for posting
Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Spent 10 hours today making this sliding door. This will make getting yard machines in and out easy, and will not require backing out one or both cars.

Still need to secure it somehow, and make it as mouse-proof as possible. It turned out well, I think!

What a great day in the shop. No distractions, perfect weather, and I had all the tools I needed. Feeling pretty satisfied this evening!

Got the door secured today with two heavy-duty hooks and a sliding bolt for security. I think a few well-placed jamb brushes to keep the snow and bugs out, and it's a wrap!
