A couple earlier ratchets I picked up yesterday. A 1/4" Walden is a first for me, also, I'm guessing, the other which is 3/8", is a Plomb, it's un-marked but looks just like some marked ones I've seen pictures of, including those just posted recently on this thread page. It was in rough shape missing a screw and the reversing lever. I pulled it apart to see if I could make it be a user if possible. Used a wire terminal as a lever.....lol.....Crimped it on a put some solder on to keep it there, (there wasn't much left to be able to peen it down), found a couple brass screws that work for now, it does work quite well just the way it is and may just keep that way. ( I know I put the lever down rather the up, which after doing my work I found the lever pointing up not down unless some came from the factory pointing downward).... ;) 20240623_070605.jpg20240623_070620.jpg;)

I have the same rachet and have been searching like crazy. It looks to me like Chicago MFG. Co. But the handle and selector is throwing me
It's demuth steel products and they call it a silo wrench. Strong relation to chicago mfg. Not exactly sure much beyond that as I had zero knowledge on it 10 minutes ago but decided to solve the mystery. More Information can be found Including patent info if you search "demuth steel products antique ratchet"

It would appear that ratchet was manufactured with a number of different brand names on it, reportedly all made by one Chicago Manufacturing and Distributing:

Demuth / Demuth Steel Products Co.,3939 S. Central Ave., Rockford, IL 61102 (originally Chicago) / https://www.demuth.com/ / et. 1917 inc. 1947 / silo ratchet / patent 1089737 Mar 10 1914 Gordon K. Wright / https://www.datamp.org/patents/displayPatent.php?pn=1089737&id=24974 /

Chicago / Chicago Mfg. & Distributing Co., 411 S. Sangamon St., Chicago, IL / patent 1089737 Mar 10 1914 Gordon K. Wright / http://alloy-artifacts.org/chicago-mfg-company.html / http://alloy-artifacts.org/chicago-mfg-company.html#history / https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/chicago-manufacturing-and-distributing-co.394062/ /

Does anyone recognize the R & B Co. from Kansas City Missouri? Or it could be simply R.B. Co. This is on a large railroad ratchet. It's marked a No. 27, but I'm not sure what the other numbers are. Anyone familiar with any of this? Pics below.
Could mean railway & bridge co

I don’t know who made this one or why, but it sure is nicely done. I thought it would look good next to the Herbrand, Snappy, Blackhawk, and Plomb speed ratchets! I plan to post them together at some point.

A whopping 10 teeth!

This obviously isn't a ratchet, but I wasn't sure where to post this one. What caught my eye was the awesome knurling on the handle. What I've never seen before is the name stamped on it. It looks like "REITH." It's heavy & well made. Anyone heard of this name??

Anyone heard of this name?
ALMOST Definitely a user name, but in the name, state you found it in, someone should come up. Click on an ancestry site, find a backstory you like, and say it was his.

Or follow up with mechanic instead of state, race car driver, you get the gist.

I wandered if it was just a user that stamped his name into it. He did a decent job. Letters are pretty uniform.

1/2” mystery extension ratchet
Snap-On RS-4 (3/8)
Plomb 5488-S (1/2)
Blackhawk 39995 (7/16 cut to 3/8)
Herbrand S-12 (1/2)

There’s 1/2 dozen or so more when I can get them.

I thought that too. It’s about the closest thing, other than maybe some old braces. I have the 911 but it’s stashed away somewhere, haven’t compared them side by side. I have the feeling the speeder could be a one off, though very nicely done. I haven’t seen anything quite like it.

Yeah, it’s just the 10 tooth gear I thought looked similar, I’m not implying any connection.

I’ve heard of Rich-Con / Richards-Conover Hardware and I have a 1/4” Rich-Pacific? Ratchet that looks the same, but found this 1/2” dr. “RICH” while looking for the early Snap-On 1/2 female to 5/8 male adapter u can see behind it. Not a traditional gear style mechanism.

Does anyone know the model number to this Flying V 3/8 ratchet? Or know the exact parts I can get to rebuild it?

Hello everyone,

found an early 9/16" hex drive ratchet set from around 1925(*), also sold as Hazet 230-57 until around 1930.
(* it was shown in the HAZET history book 1868-2018 page 190 with photo with early Hazet logo stickers and dated around 1925 and in well-known Hazet catalogs from 1930, older catalogs and documents were probably destroyed in wars or I have never seen.)

It has the hat logo with warranty (German: Garantie) inscription - manufactured early by Belzer.
This logo with hat used at trademark registration of Belzer & Kopp in March 1884.

belzer-logo.jpg

The square in the head is 9.38mm wide, the square in the middle 9.05mm, both for a for an extension (one side square drive and one side hex drive) that is missing here. The end is used as a screwdriver. The socket sizes are mm (inch on back): 22 (7/8"), 20 (25/32"), 18 (11/16"), 16 (5/8"), 14 (9/16"), 12 (15/32") und 10 (without an inch imprint).

Still needs to be restored...

Diggin' that Herbrand!

I've got the 1/2" and 3/8" drive ratchets of that style, and after cleaning and lubing they have the smoothest action. I also like that huge selector knob - real easy to switch with greasy hands.
