Never knew much about dunlap tools, but I snagged this little set at an Estate sale for a dollar, and a nother simular Craftsman set at another a while back for a dollar. They from the 50-60's yall think ?

That set looks familiar. They are in the '54 catalog.

there was this cute peerless which is stuck, Seems to be aobut a 7/16 female square drive.
That's a nice find. I'm jealous. I've always wanted to run into one of those at a flea and haven't yet. Although the ones I have seen were 1/2-inch hex drive, female with a male drive plug. I didn't know they made a square drive. I believe that OTC and everyone else who made one probably ripped off the design when the patent ran out. APCO-Mossberg sold them under license. Besides the rotating head, I like the tapered handle.

That COMPANION 1/4-inch hex set is most likely 1960's. Sears & Roebuck sold a 10-pc hex set for many years, but they were DUNLAP in a box or a box with a sliding see-through lid etc until the 1964 Craftsman catalog, when they came in the vinyl soft-pak marked SEARS, with SEARS also marked on the handle of a spinner with that knob on the end of it. As I recall, the last sentence in the description in the catalog and specs reads something like, "Not CRAFTSMAN," which I thought was odd and funny. I remember looking into this a few years ago when I found just the spinner with that knob on it. I found it odd to see the name COMPANION on it, because I knew that Sears & Roebuck had used that brand name - written out like the underline Craftsman logo - on power tools in the 1930's. But I never could find a spinner with that funny knob marked COMPANION in an actual Sears & Roebuck catalog. The closest I came was the 1964 and 1968 catalogs, where it is marked SEARS.

Someone who is more of a hard-core Craftsman collector will probably know much more.

Man thats a pretty neat find! whats withthe patern on it...rusting while sitting on something.. or made with a patern on it ?

I think it just rusted while sitting on something with a pattern since the marking is only on one side. I just picked it up with a large tool buy at a garage sale 'cause I thought it was cool. It came with these tools that I don't recognize.

I did a quick check of Alloy Artifacts and the early Indestro sockets they showed all were knurled rather than the straight lines. I did find an image of the ratchet dated in the early '20s.
-Don
Edit- Bingo. Found them in None Better (New Britain).

I have some sockets with that sort of knurl and the dash in the size markings. I believe that they turned out to be older Indestro or Duro.

I haven't been around much lately but it's nice to see the ratchet collecting is still going strong. Like Moparhound I drifted away from actively adding to the collection years ago. I have piles of ratchets hanging around waiting to get organized. Someday it will happen.

Anyway, how about some vintage foreign content?

A bunch of Canadian Made Grays, a couple Tecomasters, a Britool from England, a noname made in West Germany, a Dowidat from Germany, an Oxwall from Japan and a few Canadian made Snap ons.

Caper- can't see your pics. Is it just me?

Edit I found out the square can be copied and pasted into a search bar to see the image on their site.

Good stuff!
Do you still have that Herbrand ratchet that looked like a Wright or find out if it was made by Wright? Saw it in an old thread a long time ago but the pics may be lost except through Google.

Pics show up for me so I'm not sure. If others are having problems I can try editing.
The Herbrand isn't ringing any bells but it's been along time since I went through the bucket-o-ratchets looking at stuff. I can say if I had it it's still here,I rarely get rid of stuff.

Very interesting, Todd. That round drive plug cap is a lot wider than the C-97, but still, pretty damn close. And the date range for the C-97 certainly matches when Cornwell would've been using this.

Found this at the flea market a few weeks ago, it didn't work at the time. After some soaking in ATF it works! So smooth, may have to keep this in with the users, it's pretty rusty, but some polishing should smooth out the chrome.

I was thinking the cf-87 3/7 version not 1/2. Forgot all about the 1/2 version. We're these no snap on designed according Dr. Doom?
