Awesome build!

Thanks for all the detail pics & info. Can't wait to see the neon sign installed.

What are the other two toys that are going in?

Thanks Tod!

I'm anxious to get the sign up as well... The delay is my own fault though. I was under the impression that the sign was a lot lighter than it really is. I got a real shock when I removed it from storage. My idea of two guys hauling it up on ladders wasn't going to get the job done. My GC has access to a hoist that should make the job very easy to accomplish, but finding a time that works for both of us has been a problem.

Shouldn't be too much longer though.

I restore old Corvettes as a hobby. Generally I'll restore a car, keep it for a bit, then sell it for the next project. Right now, I have two projects; a 1970 coupe and a 1971 convertible. This is a photo of the '71... Afraid I don't have any of the '70 yet.

I'll post some photos once I get the sign up... I still need to get some base molding up too (found a source, just need to order it).

Regards,

Stan

Stan, you are working on my favorite bodystyle Vette ever. I just love the 68-72. The 73 looks to me like GM couldn't make up their mind or complete the bumper change. My wife wants another chrome bumper shark Vette and a mid year which I don't see happening any time soon.

Those are my personal favorites as well... While I appreciate any neat car, the 1968-1972 Corvettes are my personal favorites. They were great cars in an era of great cars and they still stand out today.

My wife actually talked me into buying the '70 I have now (in all honesty, she didn't have to try too hard ). I was pretty content with the '71, but hey, if she really wanted to buy the '70, who am I to get in the way?

I actually started transporting parts for the '70 over to the garage last night. The gentleman who I bought it from was kind enough to store the car and parts for me while my garage was being completed. I'm clearing all of the parts out of his garage, but the car will stay for a while longer as the prior owner is also my painter and he will prep the body and get the car in primer before turning it over to me.

Regards,

Stan

It's really tough to beat a '57 Chevy... Some of the best automotive styling ever.

I can see why you went that route... Excellent choice!

You might be able to rent a duct lift from a local rental co. for about $45.00 per day to lift your sign. These lifts are hand crank units with two arms fror surface to sit on. Crank the sign up & mount in place. The only problem is the arms may be shorter than the base of the duct lift. But worth checking out.

Great advice... I actually looked into this initially (once I discovered the sign weighs about 100 pounds) and the cost in this area is pretty close to what you stated.

I'm going to give my GC another week or so (he already said he'd do it for free)... If that doesn't work out, I'm going to do exactly what you suggested.

Either way you lft the sign, you might consider taking the neon glass off the sign until you get the unit mounted. It's pretty easy to R&R. This is a great looking sign by the way. I once sold neon signs & was in the sign business for quite a few years. My primary business now is industrial finishing systems & equipment, but I still love old signs it get's in your blood. I dabble with lettering & pinstriping a bit now for fun, hands are not what they use to be. Good luck
