This thread is dedicated to those of us who'd like to save a few bucks by buying tools direct from the manufacturer, instead of paying a HUGE markup to get the same tool off the Snap-on, Matco or MAC tool truck.

To play, the tool must be EXACTLY the same, and you should show prices from the Tool Truck vs. unbranded prices from another source. Please include the true manufacturer if possible.

There are lot's of OEM tools that can be had for a lot less from other sources. That's how I mainly tooled up back in the day. Only bought truck brands for specialty tools or for things I may have needed right at the moments when the tool truck was around.

Generally if a smaller tool company does primarily contract label tools for another, they are not going to market their private line considerable cheaper.

I almost gurantee that S&H sells more of their slide hammers to Snap On than they sell under their own label.

I think it's completely fair. The mark-up that Snap-on, MAC and Matco add to rebranded products to cover the service they provide is obscene, and they deserve to be "outed". And it is not the mobile dealers making this huge profit, so I don't blame them.

Face facts...the internet exists.

And for many of us it is a question of one internet source versus another. These days I buy all my Snap-on, MAC and Matco off their web sites.

I bought the Snap On. Only after he matched the Cornwell price. All 3 are the EXACT same kit. Oh and this kit is awesome. I use it to cut holes in sheet metal for installing spoilers aux lights etc. Nothing I have used in the past has worked better.

I'm pretty positive it's been verified here before that Trusty-Cook is the oem for Snap-On dead blows and ball pein hammers. If that's not the case, I'll edit this post accordingly.

At the end of the day it's all about what you end up paying as the consumer. Fairness has nothing to do with it.

FYI, the used resale of these Central Machinery sets on eBay is VERY poor. I think the set in the blue case I posted sold for about $25. But even new, the Central Machinery sets are MUCH less expensive, for the same tool.

Not sure of price now days, but I made the switch from buying this Snap-on for the Weller below... And my Snapon one I have looks identical to the Weller below, just looks like snapon and maybe weller as well have a different style grip now...

My Snap On dealer wiil sell you any mechanic tool made. Rebranded or not rebranded.

That Weller is identical to the current Snap-On which is made by Portasol in Ireland. Snap-On sell 'em for £76 over here. I bought a Portasol from e-bay for £38 delivered, not payin' another £38 just to have a name on the side.

Awesome thread. I admit it though, colors get me every time and designs. If it is boring, doesn't feel right in my hand or feels cheap, then I just have a hard time buying the cheaper one. If it is the same quality of tool and looks decent I will buy. Great thread.
