The Red Room

After watching this site forever and getting numerous ideas, I thought it would be fun to join in.

My space is a 900sf 3 car garage. I started with checked racedeck flooring, installed 4 metal halide low bay lights, boxed in the stairs, added Moduline cabinets, some track lighting, coated it in Siren Red paint, blacked out the ceiling, welded a workbench and work shelves, added a gear track wall, and a handy lift for the bikes. I figured no garage could be without a proper fridge full of beer so broke out the rattle cans and covered that unsightly white box.

Can I ask about the paint you used on the ducting? Is that the exhaust for a furnace/water heater? I like the look of it very much.

Thank you very much. The duct work you see is indeed for the furnace/water heater. I used the same flat black latex that was used on the ceiling in an attempt to hide it.

It actually adds a lot to the coolness of the garage imho. So, you used a brush to apply it? Is there any issue with the paint cracking or peeling due to the heat? I've never thought of painting out the ducting and I want to do it once, and do it right so thanks for letting me pick your brain.

I find myself looking at your photos a LOT! Feel free to post more.

What did you do with the lower concrete portion of your walls? It's a bit hard to see in the pics you have posted. Just paint?

I haven't had any adhesion problems with the paint on the ducting at all, even after several years. It was just applied directly with a little foam roller.

Regarding the concrete, make sure to use a concrete primer first followed by a latex paint. I had the best results with a heavy nap roller and a bunch of masking.

My '99 CBR 1100XX Blackbird sees the most usage but only averages about 6k a year - I love this bike.

The bike hanging from the ceiling is a 1967 Benelli 125cc. The bike was originally sold by Montgomery Wards under the Riverside name. When I found this one it actually ran and even had the original tires on it.

Here is a little different perspective of the hanging bike. I rented a 15' scissor lift, rolled the bike onto the platform and used 4 sections of cable to secure it from the ceiling joists.

Wow. The bikes, the artwork, the paint, the car, i dont know where look! Post as many pictures as you can. I hanged a bike in my garage as well, but it doesnt even compare. Lol. Im on my smartphone straining my eyes to take it all in. Ill have to check it out better when i get home to the computer.

I am really happy with the decision to go with this company/product. The first thing I noticed when they arrived is that they were much better built than I had expected. The customer service has been excellent and they are light enough that you and a buddy can easily lift and assemble them. Here are some shots of when they arrived.

Where did you find all your motorcycle art?

Thanks for asking! It is a collection of memorabilia from the last 15+ years. Racers I've met, events I've attended, photos of trips I've taken, friends I ride with, etc. All of the stuff I decided to frame (post remodel) has some kind of personal connection or story behind it. Plus it's incentive to make sure everything is tuned up well in advance of summer.

The Red Room is a fantastic bit of design; very well done! I'll just bet you get people walking along the street stopping and gawking when you have the door open.

Thanks! You have a good eye . For small stuff it's not too messy, but I mounted the blast cabinet on a roller toolbox and typically just take that and the grinder outside for larger projects.

It's probably also worth mentioning that I've gave up polishing aluminum long ago

Thanks man. I've been thumbing through their catalogs for years and absolutely love the mix of gloss black and aluminum, plus they are super rigid and appear very well built.

There are some things to be aware of. Unfortunately.... they are basically non-resistant to scratches, and the high gloss finish with the overhead lights magnifies everything. If you wipe or dust the gloss black with anything other than a feather duster or a light micro-fiber cloth you will see fine scratches.

I anticipate a few scratches here and there but figure with a little care it won't really be much of an issue and have no doubt that these will easily out last me.

Well, they may be a bit finicky, but they are gorgeous. My space doesn't get heavy duty usage so they are up my alley. The retailers up here have them priced so high it's never going to happen, so I will be living vicariously through you! Take good care of them!
