Well the auction ended today and even though the system doesn't allow sniping it sure was a last few minutes bidding war... (Bids within the last 5 min reset clock to 5 min)

As you can see from the picture of the whole pallet (lot), there's an old laser printer, a vacuum pump, some do-dads (sensors I think), and the Reed 2C vise...

I went to check out the vise in person and it was CHERRY... The worst thing about it was the surface rust, a piece of duct tape, and what looks like someone made a mark down the front with a sharpie. The jaws looked 100%... With all the other eqipment in the auction one could say with a certain level of confidence this was used in a lab environment. More specifically a plastics lab...

I'm going to take my camera there first thing Friday on pickup so I can snap a few more pics... At least I will have the memories...

I was willing to pay ~$250 for it (plus I talked to a guy that was wanting the vacuum pump for $100)... So I thought we had a reasonable chance considering the other lots were high-tech stuff and this was kind of leftovers..

Final auction price for that pallet... $800 (that is after the 13% buyers premium and 8.25% tax)....

I have to admit, I did bid it up more than what I was willing / wanting to go... But in the back of my mind I *knew* one of the two other people were going to keep out-bidding me... So if they wanted it they were going to have to PAY for it...

I *am* going to leave a note with my phone number attached to the vise... Maybe he just really wanted the vacuum pump and / or sensor thingys (yeah right, but you never know)...

I did get a cart for my oscilloscope and a couple two wheel dollies for cheap. Didn't need any more dollies but the scope cart will come in very handy!

So, here's to the one that got away....

At least I have a nice little 4" Prentiss on the way from FleaBay to drown my sorrows in...

Bummer. It looked like a nice vise. I wonder what the value is for the other stuff? I'd like to get a 1C or 2C someday. Got no space left for the bigger ones.

If it makes you feel better I got an Erie Tool Works 106 yesterday. [At least it makes ME feel better.:D]

Realistically... I saw similar vacuum pumps on eBay selling for like $200-$250... That is *if* you can sell it, they don't seem to be in high demand... The printer is worth *maybe* $100 if it works... All those sensors are specialty things, I can't find anything on the Internet about them except for the company website...

So even figure I could get $300 off from selling that stuff... That vise was nice, but not $500 nice... at least not to me... I'll be patient and find a cheaper one... :willy_nil

Jason my Lad.....I loaded up a wheelbarrow full of money and went to an auction last winter for an old rare 8" vise in nice working condition. I felt like an Arabian prince with my gold coins. I got blown out of the water so hard and fast it was silly. I wheeled my pitiful gold home feeling like I had stood next to John Holmes at a urinal. Sometimes you just don't pack enough to win.

I wish I could say money was no object... I mean, I could afford whatever... But the three things about it were...

1. It wasn't a 4C... That's the BIG thing (no pun intended)... If it was, I would probably STILL be bidding against that guy right now...

2. I'm sane and reasonable (most of the time). I know there are more out there. Heck, there are probably more from this company (Oil Company) that are just sitting and waiting to be auctioned...

3. You can find everything on CraigsList at any price if you are patient enough.

You win some, you loose some... I can accept that. I'm going to take my camera again Friday and snap some more pictures of it... At least then I can look at it on my computer and *sigh*...

Plus, I've been on the hunt for a deuce-and-a-half... I don't care how depressed you are, after driving one of those with 53" singles you hop out and can't help but have a big grin on your face... :)

I have a reed 4c, 3c, and a 1c. Im looking for a 2c to round out the collection myself but I would never pay that much for a 2c. The big ones are expensive so you have to be prepared to pay to et them.

The used HP laser-jet printer doesn't have much value. Looks like its a 4xxx series. Must folks don't want those large corporate type laser printers. They last a long time but are expensive to maintain.
