After starting the journey here at gj with a thread titled "build or buy existing", I finally have possession of a three car 24x40 garage. I took a few bad pics this morning just to show what I am starting with. Off to work now but will post more pics and some details will follow.

You can see the framing in these pics. Po was in attempts to convert to a house. I intend to remove most if this and perhaps keep one "room". The floor has a few cracks but is nice and smooth. Garage doors are all newer CHI steel with torsion springs. One door has an opener; the others are manual.

Nice space!
I'm looking at the first pic in your second post, wondering if that stain below the window is from a water leak?

Yeah it is from window and from water getting past siding. Gonna rip that osb down and inspect walls and run some electrical.

Got a lolly column (pole) holding up that beam. Incorporate it into a wall in that corner to make yourself an office. Just a suggestion. Nice space, almost a blank page to work on.

Yes, that pole... I think Po put it there as the beam was sagging a bit. I would like to remove it as this side will be Auto and workshop area.

Made some progress. Took out two walls in the front center bay. Removed beam and column. Added jack rafters, a sistered plywood gusset and a stiff back to the **** jointed "joists". No storage up there so this is way stronger than the original build which was a joist every 4'. PO added a joist for every rafter but used 12' pieces butted together. The **** landed on top plate of wall and the beam. So far just tackled the beam area.

I also removed the OSB from walls and found some nice ants and stinkbugs living behind it. Weird as some bays had insulation but a few did not. I am going to keep it open studs for now as any extra $ will be for roof, siding, fascia and soffit.

This mess of old composite decking will be gone tomorrow. Sold it on Craigslist. Got mostly all garbage out of the back shed and have a guy coming to get some windows and doors out tomorrow. Garbage guy took the trash for an extra 30 bills. It was a full dump truck load!

Now if I can get this old hot tub out I will be in pretty good shape. Neighbor lady is interested, but it is huge and needs some work. Probably end up in CL for cheap just to move it out.

More progress today. Reinforced the remaining collar ties (joists) and tore out the room framing in middle bay. Now I have two full open bays for auto and wood shop and one partial bay for mowers. Behind the partial bay is a 12x12 room for office/hangout area. As I've gone along I have been cleaning up the lumber and I have a nice stack of 2x4 and 2x6 studs. Treated bottom plates, etc.

Started the roof yesterday. Tore off back two layers, replaced a few sheets of plywood, and rebuild Gable overhang. Also got new fascia installed.

Back half of roof done over the weekend. Will wait until I can get my father in laws dump truck before I tear off the front. I threw the back half on the ground and had a backbreaking few hours of loading into the dump truck from the ground. Next time gravity will be used!

It's interesting to me how you mid westerners don't have fences around your property. Here in So Cal. we build fortruses around our places.
Nice garage.
do you work in construction?

Haha, well no need here I am surrounded on three sides by ravines and woods. I am planning a fence to the north to replace an antiquated chain link though. I am not in construction but really enjoy it. My father in law is a contractor though.

Here are a few shots with the new roof and fascia. Also a shot of my built in workbench I am working on.
