That is an amazing barn. Would you mind telling me where and what lights those are over the doors outside? I have been looking for those to go over my 2 big doors on my shop.

That's a good idea... I've always loved what Danish oil does , and how it ages..
The shiplap will be hung right over the plastic. It is a dry blown in insulation, we realized it was going to be the best to fill the cavities with all the angled brackets and dead spaces. My guy already blocked to nail it to the wall.

Thanks!! It was something I toyed with. A couple factors for me...
I'd have to pump up to my d-box, I never boondocks and always go for full hookups, and I won't allow any poop in my camper.. I handle the hose, my rules!
I do have a 50amp plug right beside it so I can use the AC anytime I want..I am super pumped to be able to keep it rig under cover. I'll be limited to a few weeks a year usage for a couple more years, and it should last us a good long time.

Thank you... I cheated a bit.. This isn't true post and beam with mortised and tenoned construction. They call it timber framed.. Which gives the look, but without the crazy cost ..
. Lol... They used monster lags on the corner braces, the metal brackets do really tie it all in and is the strength that holds it together.

Thanks.. I bought the gooseneck lights from a local lighting store where we bought a lot of lights for the house too. I'd have to find the invoice for the actual manufacturer. Barnlightelectric.com had similar lights at equivalent prices. I think they really make a barn!!

I've been working on modeling something *very* similar for my dad; his will have four horse stalls on the other side of the RV garage. What are the ceiling heights you've used in the two different garages? I'm debating the loft area in his garage, but it feels like I am wasting space if I don't add the loft.

The workshop side has 11' ceiling, only problem is the opener for the overhead doors. There wasn't enough height to mount sidewinder openers, and the track crosses over my i-beam for my trolley..:headscarf
The big bay is full height to the rafters 24 feet. I hate the wasted space over the camper, and I'm trying to figure out a way to utilize all that overhead.. if you can swing a loft, go for it.

With the rain this week, the guys were able to start finishing the interior. I was hoping they could finish most of it so the electrician could finish his job.
A couple of frustrations tho.. Of course we ran out of shiplap.. Hope to get some in the next day or so. The carpet installer came to put berber in the upstairs, then found out he needs it at 70 degrees to install per warranty, and the heat isn't up and running yet. The plumber was supposed to do it monday, but cancelled last minute. Still, there is progress.
FYI.. those beautiful Black Walnut slabs are for the bar top..

What are the dimensions of the room you've got over your garages? I've taken your design and made the garage side with 12' walls, and the RV side with 18' walls. I think that leave a usable loft area over the garage and possibly the RV side should my dad choose to use my design. I hope he does, because your garage is absolutely beautiful! I love the shiplap and "handcrafted" bracketry.

There were a few requests for whats going on at the house.. Since there are a bunch of photo hounds like me, I'll add a bunch.. Its been an 11 months of construction up at the house also... my wife is so-o done..lol..
We really wanted a fun great room for the family to gather in and enjoy, my wife wanted a master closet, and we are thrilled on how its coming together. All thats really left, besides the punch list and landscaping, is the bar. We had a great architect that put together something special. We've added a lot during construction, (just ask my gc..lol), but I think everything is going to be just what we wanted.
We started with:
The design pushed the stairs outside of the footprint of the garage, so the foundation was put down.
Then the demo began on a cold January day..
There already was a steel I beam across the garage, tho they ended up having to dig a new footing inside the garage to support the weight on one end. There will be 2 more additional engineered steel beams all the way to the top to allow for a totally open space inside..
It ended up taking over 5 weeks just to frame and sheath the outside!! (Our contractor said 5-6 days.. boy was THAT a sign of things to come..lol)
Finally windows and a roof to help close it in.. it was damn cold this winter too.
The mechanical starts. Two separate a/c units. One down in the new shed space next to the garage pushing up, another up in the attic pushing down to cool the upstairs, and to supplement the master bed. The house only had one for everything before, and there wasn't much cold left by the time it got upstairs.
The electricians kept running out of wire..lol..
That end of the house had two bedrooms, with their closets back to back right where the hallway had to go. They had to go into the new space, however, there was an elevation change that took a little work.

Don't mind the 10 year olds color choices..at least now they're from the same color chart.
The bar take shape. there a water heater there also for the bar and to feed the new outside shower going in off the garage.
We used closed cell spray insulation to help separate the great room from the bedrooms. We did a hybrid for the rest with 2" of closed cell with 3" of fiberglass. to do all in spray was crazy money.
Finally weeks later, sheetrock and plaster begins!
We add a whole house 14k generator, we're prone to lose power, and my wife works from home and can't be out of touch for that long.
I had them insulate and finish the garage too. Thats a changing room for when people come to use the pool.
Thats where the new tv is going with 2 rows of theatre seating.. Gawd what a mess..lol
The new dormer for the master closet starts. We really seam to just be crawling along at this point...:headscarf

The hardwood floor goes down.. looks great. We tried hard to make everything new match the old, so you can't tell there was new construction. It just flows down the hall.
We added a walnut inlay in the floor to help hide the transition, otherwise you couldn't mate the old hardwood to new.
a lot of white.. for now..
My wife loves the show Treehouse Master.. and wanted one leading from the great room. The landing for that grew into a 3 season porch, cantilevered of the side of the house..
The master closet comes together..
Her basement office gets under floor heat and tile..
The upstairs loft gets color, thats my office space on the end, there will be an exercise space at this near end.
Build ins for the closet start and double door for the hall are in..
A LOT of painting, staining is done and weeks go by, but things are coming together..
Then are center piece gets here.. ****, it won't fit thru the doors!!! We need to remove two front window, and the wall, to get it in. Then put it all back together again.. I think it was worth it...
It was as much of a pain to hang it as it was to get it in.. Its real too..

I am going to steal some idea's from this build. I absolutely love what your doing with the house. As for the barn? What can be said other than outstanding. I can already see the OSB coming off the interior walls of the garage and being covered in shiplap. Thanks for the inspiration!

Great build. It is always easier to second guess what your want for your garage, trying to weigh cost or wants. It is another thing to have deep pockets and just get everything and anything you desire.

First off, thank you so much for your responses.. I couldn't be happier on how things have turned out. My wife and I were involved with every step, and you really have to... a couple things that I didn't cost me time and money to make it right. My GC has been great in that aspect, additions or changes always with a smile. With just about a year of construction going on, we're both ready for it to finish up. Not that a year is that long for a project this size, but we were living here right thru the whole thing. At one time, we were sleeping in the loft, the 10 year old was in the spare room in the basement, and the whole house was full of stuff, not to mention the dust and dirt..lol
We've worked hard in our perspective fields for the last 20 plus years to get to this point, and built our dream home to enjoy the next 30. We went over board on somethings, and way over budget.. and will be working extra hard for the last 10-15 years of our careers to make sure we're where we need to be, but we both have no regrets and will enjoy every minute our our lives.
The next 4-5 weeks will still be very busy finishing up the inside, doing the whole exterior, and relandscaping the pool area and front yard. There are still a few surprises left..
The installers were here for 6 hours yesterday putting this up..
We've worked hard in our perspective fields for the last 20 plus years to get to this point, and built our dream home to enjoy the next 30. GD.. You are so right.. the original plans called for hay hoods and a hoist, as you see in the first picture. As construction began, I realized the hoods just didn't fit this barn, in this location. Unfortunately I was at work as the framed the beams at the peak, and by the time I noticed the hoist was missing, it was too late. They could have been added off center, but that would have looked like ****, and to rebuild would have cost time and money.. and at that time I choose to let them go. I've regretted that one already..lol
