Did you try a different battery?
This comes as a kit with a charger and 4.0AH battery,so two different units and two different batteries.

I bit on this deal (was $109 when i ordered $139 now) and it arrived yesterday. I was impressed by its torque...it easily and quickly removed the lug nuts on everything i could test it on including some i Torq'd as tight as i could without worrying about snapping the stud. However it had an intertermittant problem on the 3rd speed, it would take a few trigger pulls to get it to start. HD is shipping a new one and picking this one up. I hope the new ones better because it was really a nice tool...We'll see. If still an issue i'll probably go yellow because i already have a 5AH batttery with my weed wacker.

That is really weird. No wonder you are frustrated. I wonder if there has been a change in the product? Mine works flawlessly but it is over 18 months old now.
Has anyone used the angle grinder included in the current Ryobi Days deal, the P421? Looks like the grinder alone can be had for 45 bucks and the reviews seem mostly positive. My grinding needs are pretty light and pretty rare, but needing to grind and not being able to grind is never fun.
Just got that on the free tool deal. Used it a couple times. Two days ago I used it with a wire wheel to clean up some steel pipe. Today I used it with a diamond concrete cutter to prepare about 25 feet of cracks in my driveway for crack sealer. I love it. It'll do everything I'm going to ask of it. I'm going to pick up another one.
Thanks for the insight. I have a few things, very few actually, that I need to grind down, and I could probably use a file, but I also live on a private cul-de-sac and we're contemplating how we are going to address some cracks in the asphalt without paying through the nose for a professional. I hadn't even considered that an angle grinder could potentially be used in that scenario.
Anyone have experience with the 18 volt chain saw or pole saw? Have lots of other 18 volt tools I’m fond of, need something for light work around the yard.

My 2nd season using a Ryobi 40V string trimmer. Not a happy camper. Doesn't have the line speed of a gas model, thus limited to grass & dandelions. Its actually heavier than my Stihl. You constantly have to feed out line to max to be effective. The battery/ charger is failing. Just sits there w/ a red light. Calling customer service was an exercise in futility. They never pick up nor return the call. Out of frustration I slammed the battery home into the charger. Works now! For how long i don't know.
i got this earlier on sale from Direct Tools Outlet, refurb but looks new and works quite well . 24 in bar on the hedge trimmer

my guess is Gen 2 Brushless tools. From the different teasers that they have, it seems to show the impact/drill/sawzall/circular saws. I don't think it will be anything too new, just updated brushless tools, probably better able to use the HP+ batteries.
I wish TTI made some plain blow-mold or other hard sided tool boxes for their Ryobi (and Milwaukee) cordless tools. Til then Plano or other 'ammo can' types boxes will have to suffice for me.
@moab11, you were right. The new tools were announced today. Interesting looking high speed mini saw for tile metal. I am FOR SURE getting the new 2-speed right angle drill, been waiting forever for one. I’ll also get the 1/2” drill-driver and maybe the mini high speed cutter. https://www.ryobitools.com/hp
Haha, even a blind monkey gets it right once in a while!
I'll have to take a closer look at the new offerings, but nothing really stood out to me as a must buy. The smaller heads on the tools is nice, but the large battery is still a limit. My M12 drill/impact fill that void nicely.
I got two of them on sale last year. Work great. Couldn't be happier with the purchase. They dropped the price to $49 on these so I got one today

Same as you TSR. Milwaukee guy primarily. But, I have many Ryobi One+ tools and accessories that I think are excellent and may be a better price/performance deal than some other brands. Though my hardest working tools (drills, saws, impact drivers/wrenches, ets) are older corded Milwaukee Magnum/Heavy Duty with dups in newer cordless Fuel m12 & M18 tools.
I also just picked up the Ryobi 18ga brad nailer and 3/8 crown stapler. Couldn’t pass them up for the price. Reviews are good too.
