The jerk from craigslist that never returned (read stole) my pintle hitch is making my life hell. Now I have to buy a new setup, I had to use the new freightliner to move this tiny reel trailer because it is the only thing left with a pintle hitch. I hate people that do **** like that, I was trying to be helpful.

It is always nice when you think you know the problem, swap out components and you were right! Only took me going through my motorcycle's wiring (needed to be done anyway) replacing the factory ignition with an electronic ignition and a couple other things for me to come to the conclusion that I needed to put in new coils . . .

I have had my fair share of vehicles that I just aimed the "parts cannon" at and let her rip, at least with these trucks I know most of the common issues.

I think I found the hitch guy's location, may take a trip down there, looks like a family business, maybe someone will have more honesty than him. If course, it could be the guy is in a comma somewhere like the deal with the Yukon seller, so I shouldn't totally judge him yet.

I need to get the Virginia burb torn apart and the frame separated, that should make some serious room. Also have at least one welder to sell, got to get both brake lathes out of the shop and into the conex. That will make a huge dent.

I have been in a vegetative state for a few days, trying to recover from my long weekend. I guess I overdid it a bit, should be able to do a bit more tomorrow afternoon, but who knows. I think I need to dedicate a few more days to the office, there are several things that I just need to get done, but just can’t seem to finish.

Talked to the hitch guy today, he says it will be back tomorrow, story is an employee was supposed to return it, couldn’t find my place and never told him, just forgot about it. I have had employees like that, so if it is returned tomorrow, then all is good.

Going to try out the bead seater and see about getting some tires mounted.

Bead seater works great, played around with the pressures, 100 is really too much, 60 was too little, 75 seems to be just right. I will be curious to see if the larger tires need more pressure or not. I will say, I need some more hose and a few valves to make things work easier, but for right now what I have does the job and I am getting the hang of it.

I was so concerned about the tires being directional that I didn't really look at the wear patterns. I have two that are worn about a 1/4" more than the other two, after reading a bit, looks like they should be on the inside rims and you guessed it, I have to swap the tires around to make that work. At least I didn't have all of them mounted, practice is a good thing, right?

Last night, I stopped at the Freightliner dealership to pick up some parts, figured I would see what a hood costs from them, surprisingly, they were cheaper than aftermarket hoods. I may end up buying an entirely new hood, trying to find the correct used one is proving near impossible. It would need to be painted and in theory, the guy that is taking the boom would be able to help out with that.

The hose and valves are so I can setup my air on the tire valve stem and have full pressure going while seating the bead, I want to have a valve so I can shut off the air, normally you have a gauge inline that has a chuck that would shut off the air when disconnected. I had to do some masterful finagling to get it done, would prefer it be easy as it is already no fun for my back, no sense in making things hardy than they need to be.

Now I am proving myself a liar, I just bought the New York fire truck and will have to pick it up at some point soon. I did at least get the tires off the other fire truck. who knows, maybe I can get it gone quicker than I thought.

If you end up parting out any of the fire trucks, and have bits that don’t sell, local volunteer fire depts might be interested (as a donation) in adding to their spare parts bins. Especially pump, water tank, or body/engine/suspension parts.

Local volunteer fire depart association was not interested in anything at all, I was surprised. I have some plans for the parts, may even end up being profitable.

I am sitting in the parking lot of the bank, waiting for AAA, to tow the maroon burb, the starter solenoid is done, I was able to start it earlier, but not this time. I was headed to NAPA to get a new starter so I could swap it out, thought I would have a little more time, apparently not.

Looks like I will be driving Bev this evening.

I contacted them about the pump parts off the other truck, won’t waste my time again. I even recognized some of the members names, but they were too good for my parts. Regardless, I have some neat ideas for a few of the components. There is a ton of awesomeness, between the switches, the handles, the lights, all the cool extruded aluminum parts. Even the hose is being used for protecting my ratchet straps.

That’s what I use, bits of retired fire hose. Best stuff ever !
I learned that trick when I once helped moor the Half Moon (replica sailing ship) for the winter on the Hudson River. They were using old fire hose over the mooring lines to protect against chafing.

So AAA shows up, driver acts like he knows what he is doing, asks me some questions, I explain to him what the issue is, he proceeds to try all the things that I tried, then looks for the starter, he looked for a while, even after I told him and pointed to it. He goes under the truck, then says “if you want to tap on it, I can turn the key, because I can’t find the starter”. It worked and the truck started, so I am at the shop, haven’t turned it off yet, need to figure out logistics, so I can get both burns into the shop and change the starter tomorrow. Right now I really want to finish my tires.

Got a starter, not the one I wanted, but I don't want to waste more time waiting, I just inflated four more tires, moved them outside and now I am ready, except I have to wait, the burb is too hot to touch, starter is right below the turbo, so I have to let it sit for a while. Good news is I have a few hours before the rain hits, so there is a good chance I can get it done, then plug the shop back up before it rains. I think I will try and get two more tires swapped around while waiting for things to cool.

Got the larger front tires swapped onto the front rims from the new truck, they look ten times better, can't wait until I get the really big tires from the new fire truck. Now I am getting ready to swap the starter on the burb, need to get that done so I can get the Virginia burb back inside before it rains.

This is the new tire, they are a good two inches taller and a couple inches wider, they look great in person.

Enjoying following you through your trucks. Those tires are a lot of work, but at least you invested in the tools to make it as easy as you can.

How do you like that floor jack? Isn't that the copy of the HF Daytona jack?

That jack is the ****** version, the HF would be an improvement. Will most likely buy one soon. Then I will be buying a Milwaukee jack, those are a work of art.

Got the tire inflation cages, also ended up buying some file cabinets for the office, will have to go and pick those up later this week. Guy that "borrowed" my hitch has completely flaked on me, sounds like I am not getting it back, will wait until Tuesday before I buy a replacement. At this point even if he returns it, he is an a$$hole and I would NEVER do business with him again. Also he has just made it so I won't help anyone else out, just not worth the risk. I sell him a trailer for $500 and he takes my $175 hitch, sounds like a hell of a deal to me.

Anyways, should be at the shop most of the day tomorrow, hope to get tires swapped around on the new Freightliner, also want to get things figured out as to which back body I am going to install on Bev and the old Ford knuckle boom, need to get those sold ASAP.
