This tower is fine to be on, no FM stations, town will only allow the “same” tower to be used as it is no confirming to the ordinance. The tower was built before the ordinances even mentioned towers. I have three four options, two of them are terrible and one is ok and the other is what I would like to do.

The biggest issue is that I am fighting my Dad on almost everything, I think he is just contradicting me to try and keep control, we had a big meeting yesterday and essentially everything that I have been saying (read arguing) has now been agreed on since his “guy” agrees with it. Pisses me off, months of back and forth for nothing, all the grief I get was just stressful for me. Dad actually told me that I will have no part in anything to do with the construction, since I don’t work well with him in the field. I then asked him who was going to do the tower work, he thinks he is, along with a couple people he will find...

I would argue with him more, but he ended up in the hospital last night, he has had a couple episodes almost like seizures and I am sure they are stress related. He needs to just step back and have fun before things kill him. I love my Dad, we are both stubborn and strong willed, so it makes for too many chefs and not enough cooks when we hit a job site.

Me and my Dad were that way. We had only one big blow up over a house. We didnt talk for over a year. Near the end I learned to just let him have his way funny thing is after I gave in he started asking my opinion. He passed in 09.

My Dad and I have done several remodeling jobs together. My father was a general contractor for 35 years, and I learned everything I know from him. I found that I have exactly the same experience as Harley Jim. If I argue with him on something, he will fight me every step of the way, even to the point of contradicting himself. However, if I just do it "his way" then make suggestions along the way, before long I am doing it the way I want, and everyone is happy, and he thinks I had some great ideas, but I am still doing it the way he wanted it done.

I hope your dad is ok! I've followed your thread for a long time, and I see a lot of the same tensions between you and your father and me and mine. But at the end of the day, he's your dad, and hopefully you and he can figure out a good plan to get these projects done without adversely affecting his health!

Hope your dad is ok. As you might remember i lost my dad this February. We had a tumultuous relationship. He tried to control me even as an adult. We had periods of months where we didn't speak. A stressful parental relationship is no fun at all. Hope it gets better.

Sorry for the slow update, I left about 6 PM, he is doing fine, they set him up on an EEG and caught me of his episodes, they said they rarely catch anything, but they got at least one. Then decided to monitor him longer on the EEG, after a visit from the neurologists it was decided that he is having seizures, even ones he was not aware of. Was told they are focal seizures. They loaded him up with an IV cocktail and kept recording with the EEG, last step is MRI to confirm there was no stroke or tumors and they think he will be going home.

Now for the bad news, doctors say 3 months of no seizure activity before the state will let him drive and even worse is that it appears his CDL is done, apparently seizures are one thing they don’t mess with at all, still confirming things as most info is on epilepsy, but they refer to seizures as a general thing. Both of these things are not something he is likely to agree with and since he already has some memory issues, I can see him forgetting and driving anyways. This makes me nervous as he told the doctors that he had a lot more episodes of these seizures than he had been letting on and it is clear now that he can’t tell if he has lost awareness completely without a witness to things. He essentially drops seconds to minutes of time when some of the larger episodes happen and as a witness to one, he doesn’t stop functioning, but he doesn’t remember anything that happened after a certain point.

That is it for tonight, I am not sure when the shop will get any love, on top of this, my grandmother on my estranged mother’s side of the family died this afternoon while I was in the hospital with my Dad. My mother is supposed to be arriving fro who knows where tomorrow and I don’t want to have any sort of contact with her, in fact, just typing this is raising my blood pressure.

Fun times ahead for sure.

I feel for ya.
Witnessing seizures isn’t fun, and can be frightening.
My grandfather was one of the strongest men I knew, and to watch him lock up was disturbing. He was going through kidney cancer at the time, but we never learned what was triggering the seizures.

At the same time, my mother was having the same trouble. But at least we knew the cause. She had MS and the brain lesions would cause short circuits. They could only be detected by MRI, and only by someone trained to spot them. I had many arguments with hospital staff about skipping the CAT scan and going directly to MRI. The first time, she spent a week in the hospital with me terrorizing the staff until I got the MRI scans and hand delivered them to her Neurologist in Boston. I even got a Head Nurse kicked off her ward. The staff hated me, but they couldn’t do anything, I had legal papers in hand. My mother didn’t remember any of it. The only thing I could do was hold her until it passed each time after.

You and your brother are going to have to have a chat with your father’s helper. He has to help keep your father from getting behind the wheel since he spends more time working with him. If he isn’t willing to help, then you and your brother may have to step in and assert some authority. It *****, (I know, I’ve been there. Twice) but for everyone’s safety, and your father’s wellbeing, it has to be done. The helper needs to be your dads new chauffeur, or he needs to be gone. He can’t be allowed to cover or facilitate on this.

Stay strong, we’re here for you. As best as we can through the internet.

These seizures are not like what people think, he just gets confused and can’t talk right, but he doesn’t remember it happening. I guess that makes us lucky. Hopefully he is going home today, still waiting on results for MRI.

I am going to try and do something at the shop, I need to keep myself busy, but not paperwork or business related stuff. Next week is going to be a long one, all the things I have to do must be done by Thursday, our business year end is October 31st and we have a larger than anticipated profit I have to extinguish, except we don’t actually have the money, go figure, right?

Strouty hang in there. Sounds like things are going to be more hectic. Maybe you father realizes things are happening and not being able to control them is upsetting him, and he takes it out on you. Your going to be there for him I can sense it in your posts.

He is home, mess seem to be doing their job, the next three months will be lots of doctors and specialists. I ended up not going to the shop today, I spent the entire day at dealerships looking for a new truck for the company. Looks like I will be going with a Ford, just can’t beat the price.

If you can't find what you want, find a dealer with a fleet/business salesman and spec out exactly what you want and order it. I did that for over 30 years.

I have been searching, between the false ads and lying salesman, the local guys have made the best deal I could find. At this point any savings would be washed by wasting more of my time so I am moving forward with the deal for the Ford.

Thanks Kay

I think things may get better if the meds keep him from having future episodes. The hard part is the license, it does appear he can’t use his CDL anymore and I know he hates the idea of that.

X2 what they all ^^^^ said. But don't forget to keep your "head straight" and keep enough time for your happiness or contentment (as best as you can). A lot of others will be depending on you increasingly from here on out. Be strong my friend.

Sounds good after Halloween is good for me too, sorry to hear about your Dad and the ensuing issues.

If he can't use his CDL it may be time he bought a farm (a farm not THE farm) farmers can drive up to 18 wheelers without a Class A or CDL I believe. You have to have the name of the farm on the vehicle. Kind of like the 'lobster trucks' that don't need to be inspected. They need the town name painted on the side and they need to stay within 25 miles of that town and driven by the lobsterman or possibly his crew.

If nothing else, tell him the way around the issue so that he then focuses on doing what he needs to get around it but in the meantime lets someone else drive :)

I wanted him to stop driving the truck anyways, I am not going to tell him about any possible loop holes. He is dangerous and he has memory issues so he gets lost rather easily once outside of the immediate area. It was a conversation that would have to happen anyways, this makes my job easier.

God speed!

My brother retired early from Fed-ex because he had a couple incidents where he couldn't react to a corner until he was over the yellow line.

Probable the smartest thing.

My back is destroyed from a 96 year old man who was still driving. He jumped his Chrysler LHS over a median and landed on top of my Subaru.

Youmay need to consider taking all the vehicle keys away from him also. couple of years ago I watched a guy back out of a neighbors drive, into the ditch, then get straightened up after 4 attempts and get on the road and run off in the ditch again. I asked teh neighbor if he was drunk and she said he wasn't supposed to be driving, but they had not taken his keys away.

Been swamped with paperwork and buying a new truck for Dad’s company. I swear 5 hours with him is like a 12 hour day. ;)

The plan is to be back at the shop Saturday through Tuesday and just try to get as much done as possible. Nothing really to update, going to drop by to pick up the little generator as Thursday night into Friday morning is supposed to be really high winds again, if we lose power I would like to be ready this time.

For now we are convinced he will abide by the rules, in a month, that may be a different story.

So much for that, Dad has told me that he will be driving trucks again in three months, he knows it isn’t an issue and things are fine.

https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/faq/what-medications-disqualify-cmv-driver

I have done enough research to see that even if he had only one seizure the FMCSA requires two years off medication and four years without a seizure. This is if he can get a doctor to sign off, that seems like a crazy liability for the doctor.

Sorry to hear he is fighting it. Hopefullly he realizes how dangerous it is.

I am not sure he cares, yet his main concern is liability for everything else. The amazing part is that the doctors are not required to notify anyone about the seizures, yet they tell us the law is 3 months seizure free before you can drive a regular vehicle again.
