in NJ they are strict... plus we have way too many people so all the good ones are taken. I like the stuff that member here does with old plates... cuts them up and makes whatever words you want. Was thinking of having him do PELICAN PINES for my garage... someday I should.

It is only $25 for two plates, so I may just do a bunch of different ones, you just have to wait for the new plates to arrive, then you can change them again.

$25 !!! dang... In NJ you pay by weight class... my 1995 Silverado was like $90 for normal plates... custom adds like $50... and you pay the 90 every year for registration.

Not sure what my current fleet runs... my accountant deals with that stuff.

The $25 is just for the plates, the truck will cost probably $150 to register. Maine is terrible, a new vehicle can cost $2,000 to register depending on sticker price and options.

Way back when.. I had a new 08 Z06 vette and the wife had a new 07’ GMC Denali XL, we paid $2500 in ownership tax on top of registration the first year. That $52k Denali cost us over $10k in ownership tax over 10 years.

That’s why I drive an 08’ H3 and the AVERAGE of our current stable is 41.6 years old. 57,68,70,83,08,14; collector plates are $250 every 5 years!

And I just found out that in Indiana you can renew your plates for two years, at least on old motorcycles and campers. So it saves me $20 to renew for 2 years for each of them. And it only adds $8-$12 to renew for two years since only the excise tax is added on. I did that on my KZ650 at the end of the year and I'll do that on my CX500 and pop-up camper this year.

I guess that is a bit over the top, I know some states are really cheap to register vehicles, new or old. I wish I was in one of them.

This is what I am leaning towards, probably won't get to register it until tomorrow, then the vanity plate will have to be done at the State BMV, so that won't happen until Thursday most likely. This way I have some time to think about it.

I am in Kansas and when I was in middle school I found out that an antique tag and registration and taxes were only $12 per year. I was already into old trucks by then and that just cemented my desire for an antique truck. Ended up getting a 37 GMC when I was 14, still have it.
By the way there are no restrictions on the tag like other states, I can drive anywhere anytime on an antique tag. Oh, it went up in the last 25 years too, now it is $17 per year...

I love registering my old Rovers . . . $52 for the year here in Maine. When we got the KIA minivan my wife wanted we were both shocked that it was $900 to register it . . . now she doesn't complain as much about Rover upkeep costs . . .

It is my Dad's, the blade is awesome, the zero swing is great, but this one has a longer boom, bigger bucket, and a huge thumb. Basically it will tip over if you reach out over the side of the machine. So if you ever get one, don't put a bigger bucket, longer boom, and giant thumb and it will probably be perfect.

Toys can be a real PITA.

Spent the second half of the day helping my Brother take down a precarious tree. It blew over in a bad wind storm and got stuck in another tree. It was dangling over a nice retaining wall and paved driveway, so we had to be careful not to damage anything. A bit of rigging and some trial and error and we got it safely down, of course it took much longer than we thought, so we did not finish until a bit after 8, I am beat! Here are a couple of pictures of the process.

Today I got to use the shop for something I enjoy, I installed a new stereo and some new component speakers in the new burb. Now I need to build a sub box and add an amp, then it will feel more like home.

I was so busy with things, I did not even take one picture.

I will have to tear things apart again as I have new mirrors coming and the front door pins need to be replaced, for some reason I feel like I just did that?

Anyways, the next week is going to be a busy one, tomorrow I am headed on a day trip to visit a few places that I have not been to in a while, I am sure there will be at least one or two new acquisitions.

I am not sure what I am going to do with the 8020, I have some larger stuff from previous acquisitions. You may laugh, but I would like to build a bench to sit on.

I am most excited about the tape dispenser, so I am sure it will completely disappoint me. There are a couple small fume extraction arms and I got a decent size suction fan as well. The wire they sell is $3 a pound and they deduct way too much for the spools. I paid $120 for all the wire, mostly 12 gauge, but I grabbed a couple 10 and maybe a 14 as well.

Working on new suburban, one of the door locks doesn’t work and I am replacing the actuator. Got the tape dispenser setup, silly to be so excited about it, but having all in one is nice.

It is worth a trip, you could easily spend $20 and come home with a satisfying amount of things, but I highly suggest spending more than $100 and getting the free smile for miles.
