Sean, two of them are old truck bodies and one is a shipping container or conex. They work pretty well, but rust is an issue, one of the truck bodies is now junk and will need to be replaced probably this year. The last one is a moving van trailer, they are really nice but mine is pretty old, so it has rust and other issues.

That is a good price, I have lots of the bins made by them, but none of these cups. I may have to try some out for all my new drawers.

As for an update, well, I didn't get to touch anything related to the Lista cabinets. I had to get some billing done, as well as update some business info. It took me much longer than I thought and my back is still all wonky. I am about ready to leave the shop now, should be a bit better tomorrow, plus I have help in the afternoon.

To make me feel better, I decided to post a few pictures of some nasty white stuff from this past winter.

I started doing the math on the card files versus the Lista cabinets and damn, the card files win hands down. The three card file cabinets can hold 540 of those yellow plastic bins, the Lista can hold about 500, but it will waste space in the drawers becasue two of them are 6" tall versus the 5" ones that are needed to just clear the plastic bins. Then the overall dimensions of the Lista cabinet is larger than the three card files. Double whammy. The card files are not nearly as configurable, so they do have several benefits. I am not planning on getting rid of them, but I was going to move them out to the conex, not sure now.

Strouty, I went back through the old thread. Almost makes me sad without the pics.

It makes me sad for sure, I am not a fan of Photobucket.

lurking again...

So are you a lurky-loo?

Yesterday I went to the Chiropractor and he says I have a ligament that has been aggravated and it will be a struggle to get it to loosen up. Basically the ligament is tight, so it is pulling my hip up and then the muscles freak out and tighten up to try and protect things. When I use the heating pad, it loosens the muscles up, but as soon as they realize that the ligament is still tight and the hip is still out of whack, they tighten back up. Not fun, it really limits my flexibility.

I should be able to get something done this afternoon, maybe I won't be doing it, but I will have help, so I guess since I am paying to have it done it is still like I am doing it?

As for the Lista cabinets versus the card files, I need to remember that ultimately there will be more storage wall and then the space will be 100% flexible. I can't really compare things right now, I do have to figure out a plan for the future stockroom and I am not 100% sure how I want to lay it out. I downloaded google sketchup yesterday and I need to take some measurements and start a drawing.

They are a bit over 24" deep, I think the cabinet may be 27 1/2". I don't want to go too crazy right now, when I move the stockroom, the ceiling height is probably going to be 8' and the storage wall is similar to pallet racking, it just makes everything super configurable. I just got to the shop, my back is screaming, wish I had some pain killer that would work for it. The plan is to take apart at least one more box and reconfigure at least two, then see where we are at. I hope I can actually move some things around and make some room, but time is not on my side today.

I am currently using a combination of tapatalk and dropbox. I like dropbox way better, but since Garage Journal doesn't have an automatic image resizer, it is a much more involved process. The best part about dropbox is that I can move the file and even change the name and the links do not break, of course that is assuming I leave it in dropbox and not move from them.

I have been resizing pictures to 700 by whatever and they look good, the tapatalk ones are a bit larger and the plan is to swap them to dropbox when I have time. For detailed shots, I can make a clickable photo that offers a small size with a big punch. Here is an example:

That will help for sure, but the muscles are soo tight that it hurts with almost any motion. Then it loosens up once I get moving, only to tighten up worse than before, I found that out yesterday.

BTDT. while my back was out, I'd have a 2-3hr window in the afternoon where I was semi-mobile (with pain). But after that I was an invalid again until the next window.

Yeah, this is the worst mine has been for a while, but this time it is weird, it feels more like I just spent too much time exercising, not the normal, ouch, my back hurts. My help will be here in about an hour, so I plan on at least doing something for a couple hours. Not that I have been doing nothing, just nothing on the Lista cabinets. I got a couple used batteries today for one of the burbs and the crane. Tomorrow I have someone coming to look at my F350 dump truck, I was not even thinking about selling it until my brother called telling me I should sell it to this guy he knows. If he will pay my price, he can have it, I am not really partial to fords unless they have a 7.3 in them, then I will at least give them the time of day. ;)

I am feeling much better about things today, the amount of storage is actually starting to sink in. I think with these cabinets, combined withe the storage wall uprights, the overall size of my stockroom can be cut back quite a bit. The plan for tonight is to get a few more drawers installed and then move some more cabinets around. This weekend I would like to empty the card file cabinets, then get them out into the conex. I forgot to take a picture, but I got one lista cabinet out in the conex as well. I can clearly see that I am going to have to put some cabinets outside no matter what I do, there just isn't enough room and I still have the 13 sliding door cabinets to get and store.

Strouty, I had previously considered finding some Lista or Vidmar cabinets, but the prices were so damn high! I settled for the file cabinets for $50-$75 each, along with spending on the bin cups. For the usage and money, I am perfectly happy with them. As you found out, they hold quite a lot!

If these had not been so reasonable, I probably would have never bought this many, it just seemed like a deal that was too good to pass up.

Of course right now I ran into an issue with one of the great looking boxes, it appears to have a bent main frame, so I have tried to bend it back with no luck, it is the middle upright and had I known about it, I could have used it as the one for the long drawers, but at this point it has to come apart again. ***** because I almost had it totally loaded, but the top three drawers are so tight that you have to yank them and then they slam and it is just not what I want. No big deal, it is only time, right? So the update for the evening is that I have to redo a fair bit of what I all ready did earlier, except now I won't have any help.

Looking good there! I'm thinking when you get the listas all configured you are going to be in heaven.

I had to go do a family thing at the cemetery today so not much shop time but when we got home I finished rewiring the Lathe and got it running off the rotary phase converter. That put a smile in my face, so nice to have all the chip making stuff up and running.

In the morning I am going to replace the "new" cabinet with another one so I can start unloading the card file cabinets. I am also planning on making two more cabinets one with all shallow drawers and one with all deep drawers. Then I just have to figure out what to do with the rest of the cabinets.

Those container/semi trailers can be a double edged sword. Real easy to fill, real hard to empty. I've got 8 trailers to empty. Kudos for making progress.

I've seen posts where guys make garage out of containers and they look pretty tempting to try.

The two truck bodies were my original "shop", one was for storage and the other was storage and workbench. When I moved here, I dragged them with me and then they became deep storage. The conex was supposed to take the place of those two boxes, but it got filled much quicker than anticipated. Now it is the place I put almost all of my tower/antenna hardware and rigging. I also keep things that I don't want the mice to get into, as the other boxes are not rodent proof. Long term, I will end up with another conex and the plan is to place them apart, then put a tent on top of them, so I have a nice place to park/work on the big trucks that doesn't tie up the shop.

Power outage at the house this morning, getting moving was tough without the heating pad. I am now in my office at the shop with a heating pad on my back, then I am going to use my inversion table and hopefully I will be ready to go by 9:15 or so. I have a lot to do, going to try and beat the heat, tomorrow is supposed to be 93. Will take some pictures as I go, I also came up with a cool idea for the messed up cabinet that I was trying to finish last night.
