Not so thick. And not aluminum. Unless it's thick. Somewhere in my past I read an article/commercial on what a rat, and Chuck's a rat on steroids, can chew through in like 12 hours. It goes sorta like 100 feet of wood, 10 feet of concrete, 16 ga aluminum, but a rat can't chew through 22 ga galvanized steel. Think of that when you're penning him in.

He only did it because he was mad I hadn't fed him, I was a lot later than normal. Anyways, he can't chew a completely flat surface unless the entire thing fits in his mouth, he has to have something to catch his teeth on, the plywood is set in and trimmed with sacrificial 2x4s now. I still have a bit more to do, but I couldn't get it all done today, we ran into wiring drama.

As for the not getting shocked, somehow he only chewed the whit wire, the black leg was fine and it was only 110, so he definitely didn't get zapped. I will post some pictures tomorrow, I think I should be OK for the time being, if this doesn't work, then I will have to use some sheet metal or glass.

I can’t find any, it was just interior stove pipe with rust holes all through it, I am amazed that it even worked at all. The previous “employee” installed it and when I took over, I knew it would need to be replaced. It only took me a couple years. The old pipe went right up past the window and looked terrible, you could almost walk into it when going into the garage, just a quick fix that never should have been. I still have another day, probably two half days before it will be finished. Should be perfect timing, last night was in the 40s.

It is wicked windy here today, guess we are lucky that is all we will be feeling from the hurricane going by. I am sorting things in the shop at the Hill, have to take a trip to the Salvage Garage and I would like to bring a load of stuff over, won’t feel like a wasted trip then. Have to do several important things in the next few days, might be tough getting updates, so don’t worry if I am slow to post after tomorrow.

I spent the last few hours cleaning at the Hill shop, I just started picking things up and putting like stuff with like stuff. I can see I need to move drawers around, then things will be a bit easier to actually work with, you won’t need to go to four cabinets to do one task. I haven’t even loaded the stuff to go to the SG yet, got to start on that soon. Might not actually get to go there until tomorrow morning, but at least the Blurb will be ready.

What kind of smoking device going in the chimney? Looks good and a pain in the **** to build.. I should probably clean my chimney. Noticed how long the shadows were today, getting closer to the season that shall not be mentioned

It is an oil fired furnace, not sure I would use the elbow complex right there if it were a wood stove. I hope to have it completed next week along with a few other unnamed season preparations.

I am still organizing and consolidating things in the shop, I am seeing some improvements, probably just work here tomorrow most of the day and try to get the bay as open as I can. Would be nice to be able to do something with the space other than storage.

Looks like my shop, the only clear(ish) area is my lift and even that ain't clear :) I've got so much area filled with boxes and crates for work its pathetic. It creates more boxes and crates as I can't find what I need and just go buy more. Its a viscous cycle. I need to retire

I am still jonesing for that thing...
I think it will end up being the nicest of the bunch, very little abuse, just needs a transmission. I will install the cab from one of the other ones, sucky part is I do not have any doors for the cabs, just a homemade one. I am on the hunt for one, but I suspect it will be tough to find one worth buying unless it is attached to another machine.

Spent the better part of the day installing the insulated chimney system, got the bottom section in and the first section through the first soffit. Still have to cut the upper soffit, but it should be easier than the lower one, a lot better clearance.

Why go thru the soffit? Seems like it would be easier to not do that. I get there's a window right there, but just wondering on the decision.

The upper soffit is out a lot further, so the pipe would be almost into he garage door to clear the upper one, the previous "chimney" did that and you would just about walk into it on a regular basis. This solves all that, so it is form and function......

As for the loader transmission, I have not investigated yet, I was told it was started cold and when they went to move it, the transmission broke. I knew it had a good running engine and lots of other parts, so I won't get hurt. The other two loaders have the same transmission and the other two owners were both swapping engines when they gave up on the projects.

Resistance is futile. All space will be assimilated.
Quickest way to get organized is to purge things. Hard to do with the cost of tools and knowing you typically need a seldom used too quickly to fix something. That must be why I start elsewhere in the house and magically never get to the tools...

Strouty - With the latest flare up with your dad are you changing any of your plans for SG and The Hill? Or what projects you hope to get done in the coming months?

I am changing things a bit, but Dad wants an agreement for me to "buy" the Hill, so I suspect we will either have something this winter or I won't be hanging around much longer. I will wait until Summer if I do have to leave, but I feel like we will be able to come to some agreement in the near future. I think I need to learn to deal with his "issues" better, I tend to react strongly and I can't do that, it just makes things worse.

This morning I stopped into the office to do a quick bit of paperwork, here I am and it is almost 2 in the afternoon and I am not even close to being done. Such a nice day outside, but I have to get things done inside first. :(

You've said your Pops has some medical issues that are messing with his head a little. Try to remember that when he gets stupid, that it's not all him. I know, easier said than done.

That is where I am at, I have to take a step back, almost every argument we have had over the last couple years has been due to these issues and it will most likely get worse.

This is called adulting. In my generation it had a tendency to happen at about 14. In the current one, it'll be about 75.

Actually in this instance it is called the gubermant, I have to update this info in order to get paid by a customer, but the email address isn't associated with them anymore, except it is, then it isn't. I spent a lot of time on the phone with no change, then email, no change, now they want me to create a new account with the wrong email, so I can associate it with the correct account, so that I can delete the wrong email that is on the account with the correct email. Makes perfect sense, right??

One person had perfect English, the other was less educated and couldn’t even say the company name correctly. Overall, they weren’t helpful, but they were polite.

My dad passed in Feb of 2019. He had a brain tumor, glioblastoma, it was messing with his head quite a bit. I also tended to get angry with his comments. So i know where you're coming from. Sending prayers and good thoughts your way. You can be the bigger man. He probably knows he's losing it slowly.

Makes sense. I hope you're able to work something out and more importantly find a way to deal with him better. Sometimes there's just no dealing with people but hopefully you can find a way to work something out.
