For Me 50 started the downhill slide but at 65 still working just not as fast and not as big projects. Use it or lose it. Bet that waste oil takes a while to warm up

This morning my neck feels worse, hoping that I can get it moving and it will feel better, if it is like this all day, things won’t be very productive.
I have help on Thursday, so I am trying to get prepped for that, I NEED to finish the pallet rack assembly so I can put everything on it, otherwise there will be a mess out back at the Salvage Garage all winter. Have to shuffle trucks as well, I want to try and get Buck back over to the SG and the army dump, the Mitsu, and Clark back to the Hill, that should pretty much fill the rest of my week….

The oil was warm enough to pump, so I thought, why not? Anyways, the pump was seized up, no problem I have another one, it was seized up too. They are both cheapo eBay specials, luckily they are dead nuts simple and I got the original one working again after a quick disassembly (twice actually). I am currently pumping oil from one tank to the other. I definitely need to get the steel tank setup so I don’t have a plastic tank for my oil in the shop. Maybe I can spend some time dealing with that over Christmas.

I am totally impressed a 90 yr old is playing with a computer. My dad would have been 80 this Sept, he hated computers. And he worked in the tech industry. Just with a pencil.

Thanks 86, we "techies" have to stick together.
My computer and shop keep me alive.
My dad checks his email every morning, reads the some of the local paper's online edition (although he still likes the paper better), checks out his favorite sports teams and plays a few hands of solitaire. He also watches a lot of sports on ESPN+ on the computer. I recently had to up his internet speed because it was buffering too much.

Yup, key thing is to keep moving!! They say that "sitting" is the new "smoking" as far as detriment to health.
I get more than enough sitting at the office...ug... need to get up and move on the hour, or more.

I totally get that. I love the feel of a paper book. I have a *HUGE* library. I do computers too, and a lot of them, as i grew up on em, but i don't get the phone thing every younger person seems to be on about. Amen. I move around all day if i can. I have a 1/4 mile walk to the dyno lab, i do that about 10-15 times a day if i can. When i WFH, i sit almost all day. Not good.

I'm 54 and still pretty healthy. Hope I'm still going strong at 90.
I'll recommend a Simer paddle pump, lovejoy connecter to 3/4 electric motor. Its what I have used to pump water from underground tanks for 40 years. They wear out but the impellers are replaceable until the casting has big groove in it. Use cam lock quick connects on hoses, Pour some oil in suction side an it will prime easily. Don't pump water anymore as E10 takes of that.
You would think that there would be enough oil in them, but the impeller wouldn't spin. I cleaned everything out, put it back together, then it still wouldn't spin, so I started loosening the three screws holding the housing around the impeller, then it started to spin fine, I tightened it back up and it still worked. I am not really sure what was wrong, but it worked well enough.

I’m surprised you don’t have the M18 transfer pump. We had one at my old job and used it for everything imaginable. It would pump cold gear oil without hesitation. I used it all the time for pumping hydraulic fluid and it worked amazing.

A buddy of mine has that pump, its unreal how fast it is. We transferred diesel from one truck to another, it is almost as fast as a diesel fuel pump. He also uses it to pump out his oil drain pan, nice.
This morning I get a call from my Dad, he says “is the sander in the back of the Quonset hut still?” More statements than question, like he knows the answer. I say “yes”, then he says “well I put a boat in the Quonset hut yesterday and the reason I am telling you is because you are going to need to sand after this next storm.” I asked him why he couldn’t just call before he put the boat inside so we could discuss it and he says it is simple to deal with, just hook up to the boat pull it out of the Quonset hut, then put it back after you are done. This is the stuff that makes me sure he is just trying to cause problems and does everything on purpose just because he can.

Pull everything out of the quonset hut, jam the boat backwards and sideways in there, then put everything back in front of it. Problem solved.

Yes ...I think you are on to something there and I like it.
I am beginning to think this way. He wants to come over with the skid steer and forks to move everything around, I told him to take a hike and I would deal with it so he doesn't box anything else in. That means that I have to do this quickly as he will probably be there with the skid steer next week. All I ask is to cooperate on this stuff, he just wants to boss someone around. My cousin lost one of his truck drivers, they went to a competitor, $41 an hour plus benefits and sign on bonus, etc, etc. I know I am being paid really well if I was an actual salaried employee with benefits, but not as a sub contractor with no benefits, I end up averaging less than $30 an hour, once all my expenses are taken out I am lucky to make what the employee at the local grocery store makes bagging groceries. It is frustrating, but I am tangled in for another year at least. I suspect that things will start to go downhill rapidly after this year, it will be the first year with the serious revenue drop and Dad doesn't really understand how this will effect his normal way of life.
This storm that is going to start Thursday night is going to be a RPITA, the ground is just frozen enough that the rain will not drain quickly and we are supposed to get between one and three inches of rain. Sounds great right? Except that almost as soon as it stops we are getting that arctic air and it will be in the teens quickly after it was in the 50s. going to make for an interesting time. I am sure I will need multiple loads of sand/salt. I have the "middle" cleaned out at the Salvage Garage, going to do a quick plow so that tomorrow's 40s will help melt as much as possible, I just hope the rain takes the rest away, if not we are going to have sections of ice bankings everywhere. I plan on making a trip tonight with Perk to get the Muv-All trailer, but I can't take the equipment away until Thursday night, two Thursdays in a row that are going to be miserable nights. Oh Well, at least after this round of effort I should be able to settle in for the winter (LOL).

that is a good looking yard.I was able to open it up pretty well, need to do a bit of shoveling to get the rest, but I can deal with that tomorrow.

Your pictures of your yard with snow reminded me of something from my past. A sister company rented 3rd party trucks (ie Thrifty, Hertz-Penske or Budget - the switched periodically based on the deals offered).
A 14 passenger van broke down in the fall and truck company X never came to get it and fix it. It sat in the corner of the yard for a while and Winter came. After a big snow storm they BURIED that van to the roof with snow. They plowed with skidsteers and TLB's so they could pile it up pretty good. A couple of weeks later company X wanders in and asks about the van. It's over in the corner! It took them a while to dig it out and tow it away.
This was before digital cameras so I have no pics . . .

It will be great once the pallet rack is rebuilt. I wish I had never taken it apart in the first place. Live and learn with a combination of hindsight is 20/20.
I am at the Hill now with Perk, need to feed Chuck, then see how bad the boat situation is. I have to get the sander and the tires ready, that is the most important project for tomorrow, studded snow tires and functioning sander.
I will bring the Muv-All back to the SG and then I was thinking of bringing the army Dump back, might be too cold by then, but we will see.
