You would be amazed, sometimes people toss them and they don’t break, especially the small ones. The only time I have had to toss a bulb was if I ran out of space or I need something buried in the bottom of the bag and just can’t get to it without three hands. I have broken them in the bags, when you climb down they tend to swing more than when going up. Sometimes the bulbs are pre broken, usually if there is a leak, water will hit them and the bulb cracks from the temperature shock.

The mid level beacons (that is what we call the bigger lights) have no place to stand, except for a 1/2” u-bolt. Some towers you actually have to hook around the beacon itself to get close enough to pull the bulbs out.

I'm not actually afraid of heights, if I am on solid footing and not holding myself up, [like a too vertical ladder] I'm ok 10 stories up 20 mi/hr. wind no problem. However if I'm not feeling secure, moving scaffolding, don't be in grips way! Worst thing I experienced was a rope ladder climbing onto a lake freighter, that was being dismantled near my place. 5' up I was pretty shaky. It was about 25' to the top•, at the point I was allowed entrance to look at the remaining equipment. Filling my trousers. That last pic at heights that you posted was causing me anxiety I'm not ashamed to say. That is crazy to self impose (inflict?) upon yourself, Strouty!

• rope ladder you are nearly horizontal hanging under it. Surprised the $#!+ out of me. Never been on one before.

Doesn’t look like fun. What would a company get paid to that work? I have no issues in my bucket truck but thats 30 ft max :)

I have no idea what it would cost these days, it would be two people generally and probably $85 an hour per person plus bulbs. Probably $750, maybe more just because of the schedule to shut down the radio stations, I had to be after 10 AM, so you wouldn’t be able to get an early start, then do another job. We used to have a guy that charged a dollar a foot and you provide the bulbs, but that was a while ago.

Technically yes, but it rarely happens.

Someone pulled the key from my cat forklift at the auction, I am trying to find a key now, it won’t sell for anything if it isn’t seen running. All the other forklifts still had the keys. I hate that kind of ****.

Also, I am already loaded with stuff and I haven’t even bought anything from the auction. ;)

Is that stuff GOING to the auction? Or is the surplus stuff coming from the other place?

Looks to be an air compressor? or an air cooler?

I do like the little dump trailer.

Could you attach a zip tie or two to the keys and secure them to the forklift (or whatever piece of equipment)? Leave enough slack so it can be started, moved around, whatever?

Just something to keep the keys and the equipment together so someone doesn't accidentally misplace or pocket the keys.

Of course if some ****** is looking to steal the keys zip ties wouldn't stop them, but in all other cases, seems like cheap insurance.

And those climbing pics, wow, no thanks, Lol.

The auction was a bust for buying stuff, missed a bunch of my items prices because I had to chase down a key for the forklift, I totally got screwed, all the “running” forklifts did north of $5k and mine was deemed not running even though I had it running, it did about $3k. I lost quite a bit because of the A-hole that stole the key, I didn’t catch them, but they tried to hide the second key as well. Pretty sure the guy that bought it was the one that hid the key. :(

I am making space inside the house at the Hill so I can change the new computers over to VESA mounts from the pedestal bases. I have to go to the Salvage Garage and put a few things inside and I wanted to bring one of the computers over with me, figured it would create more room at the Hill and get me a better functioning computer at the SG. This weekend I will be modifying all of the computers and getting things loaded on them, I have several to deal with and it makes sense to do it all at once. We are going to get some rain on Sunday and it looks crappy for Monday too, will make me feel better about working on the office rather than feeling like I am losing good usable outside time.

One thing, my elbow and both arms are not too bad after Wednesday adventure at heights, I thought for sure I was going to be screwed up and not be able to get anything done this weekend. Don't get me wrong, things are still sore, just not like I expected. ;)

I have seen pictures of equipment at auction where the key is zip tied to the machine. You could still cut the zip tie, but it is something.

Next time I bring something, I am going to make a steel cable lanyard like the salvage auto auctions do. I figure I lost at least a grand or more. Live and learn.

I have the swapped three computers over to the VESA mounts, but I am out of room, so one is going to the Salvage Garage, then the other will go to my house, then I will have room to do the last two computers. I have everything setup and ready to go, so it should only take 15 minutes at this point. You forget how much more room they take up once the stand is gone, plus it isn't like you want to risk destroying the screen. I am happy with what I got accomplished, now I have to move a few things into the Quonset hut, then load up the Blurb and get to the Salvage Garage to put things away and setup the new computer. Hopefully I can keep myself on task so it doesn't drag on all night, I can easily get sidetracked as we all know.

It might have been interesting to not provide the 2nd key, then watch to see who shows up with the right key to pick it up. It's always easier to come up with "shoulda couldas" after the fact. Who'd expect some crook to pull that junk until it happened.

it happens more than you think. I found out the hard way at an auction once. Local community college had 3 projectors for auction, back when they were rare and expensive. 2 labeled "works good" 1 labeled "not working". I bid on them, won the bidding war with another lady who had been nosing around the projectors quite a bit. It was "how many do you want and which ones?" I chose the 2 with the works labels. After that, the lady who had been nosing around it with me bid up to about 20 bucks on the last one. guess what i got? One working, one not. She switched labels on me. So she got a working one for 1/10 what i paid for one working one. There's skunks everywhere.

Less than you think, we tried the other two Cat forklift keys, neither worked.

I swapped out the bad cord reel, adjusted things, installed the plugs and then pulled the bakers rack apart, it is all loaded in the Blurb, I still haven’t touched the computer, going to do that now. I did get the most important thing done, my GF had these frosting spatulas that she needed to have modified, so I had to put two bends in them to match the one she liked. I guess she is running some cake decorating class through the Rec department that she works for, they couldn’t get the bent ones before Monday so I was tasked to do it.

I think that I won't be getting much done outside anyways, so far I setup the computer at the house, then I had to go and get food supplies for the Hill and the Salvage Garage, I have been running low and buying junk at the local store instead of eating my own stuff. I still need to go to get a bunch of distilled water for the shops, used to have Staples deliver cases, it was about $2 a gallon instead of a $1, but it was worth it since they delivered it, not at $4 a gallon though. ;)

Slow progress, I am feeling the last few days, got wind burned on Wednesday and sunburned on Thursday, then Friday was just way too long.

I shuffled some trucks and trailers at the Hill, my Brother might be able to take down the big pine tree between the house and the wood shop, it is stuffed between the power lines and everything else.
