I will probably get in trouble because I had to cut the wires on the clearance light, but it would have broken off with the first tree branch since it was a cheap plastic one.

So we have the same boat hull/motor configuration except that mine is the dual console runabout version, Ventura 18. We run a single axle trailer and it’s more than enough. Solid boat but not outrageously heavy.

It really depends on what the axle rating is.... there's 3500lb axles, 5000 lb axels, 7000 lb axles and up from there. There's a good chance you have 5000 lb or larger axle.
From the pics of Strouty's dad's trailer, I'm guessing it is only a 3500 lb axle.

Strouty, do you know what the axle rating was?

From his first post to the post that is on top of 500th page took 6 years and 50 days.

Since Strouty has been on "office duty", he is not posting much.
Means less pages filling up with replies to his latest endeavor of "I am getting this because...".

It will be awhile before we see page 1,000.chuck.jpg

It is plenty warm out, last night was pretty horrendous I upstairs at my house. Might have to setup the second AC unit this afternoon. Looks like one more day of this before the temps start going the other way.

I am looking at some shelving to replace some shelving that I just bought, it feels stupid and seems wrong, but I think I can sell the other shelving for what I will pay for the "new" shelving and in the end it will all match and be totally interchangeable. I think that is where I see the value, but I have to go and look at it first, then I would need to sell the "old" shelving and that is a lot more effort added to my plate. I am trying to look at this from a long term view, I know having mismatched shelving has been an issue several times and right now I have many "spare" uprights and self brackets that do me no good because they don't fit where I would like them to go. At least this would make future changes easier.

Seriously? Shelving is shelving at this point. To quote David Frieburger, “ dont get it right, just get it running”. Unless its part of the automatedsystem, its a floor space saver. Tweak it later.

Resale lately is a gamble. Before i buy ANYTHING anymore, i ask myself “ does this have ANY value to anyone else”? In case i change my mind.

Strouty, ive been following you since your “ pre- photo bucket fiasco” thread. Youve come A LONG way since THAT sh*t show, dont get ******* in the little things. Youve got PLENTY of room compared to the rest of us!

Yup, seriously.

I haven’t finished setting up the shelving in the new Conex at the Hill because of the plywood I need to cover the wire decking. I have it, but since I broke my finger it hasn’t been something I can cut by myself. The shelving that I started to assemble I. The moving van trailer still isn’t finished because there are all these pieces that have to be bolted up, you need to be a contortionist to get to them, plus I need to cut the plywood. I can’t interchange the shelves from either of those systems, if I want another shelf, I am dead in the water, then the other two Conex boxes have a mismatch as well, none of the four brands will interchange.

From pre photobucket fiasco days, I learned a hard lesson that I can’t unlearn. I bought a huge lot of shelving at an auction, I used that shelving to build my first stockroom. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked pretty well, when I took it down to make room for new stuff, I sold off most of it. Ever since then I have needed shelving just like it, but I have NEVER found it again. I still have a few bays if it, but I wish I had never sold it. I have the opportunity to buy 50 racks that are all identical, they need no hardware to bolt together, they have reinforced solid metal panels for the shelves. I think this upgrade will be well worth the effort long term. I am not talking next year long term, I am talking ten year long term. I have already lived it once ir twice, so I am definitely serious.

As for resale, the units I have should be something that can be sold off fairly quickly, I am not going to try and hold onto them, I am going to try and move them, the cost of the new ones is a relatively insignificant amount even if I add in what it cost me for the original shelving. This gives me good leeway to offer them at a quick sale price, whatever I recoup is great, I am not going to look at things as a loss in that regard, more like lesson learned and move on. This will give me enough shelving to outfit four Conex boxes and two trailers. When it comes to the point that I need more storage than that, well, I will have bigger issues.

I am also saying that bowtiguy is completely correct in every word, I just can’t prescribe to reality most of the time. This is one of those many instances where I should probably be seeking mental health care.

Today is sooooo much nicer outside, I wish I had gotten up much earlier. At the Hill now, Chuck is getting fed, then I hope to do a few outside type things. Monday I have help and if I can get a few things prepped it will make the two of us much more productive. The sun is to get the Matsuura moved and try to setup a bit of the Vidmar racking. I think I can gain floor space, even with the new machine being in there.

Thanks, I already need it, just had to modify a lease that I didn't get to yesterday, then I fixed a spread sheet, not even sure how I ended up in the office, must have been some sort of magic trick.

Now I am really leaving, for real, really.

I made it to the Salvage Garage!

It is hot and humid inside, as I expected, the floor isn't all damp, but the air is still about 80% humidity. I may end up with the doors open, seems like it is nicer outside.

Now to try and actually do something productive.

OK, so productivity on paper counts, right?

I just spent a bunch of time taking measurements and doing math to figure out the future layout of the stockroom at the Salvage Garage. It is all good, I have all the parts I need for the Lista storage wall side, also will fit the ultimate design that was in my head fairly closely. Only thing I won't be sure of until things start getting laid out is where the doorway will be, it can't be centered on the storage wall due to dimensional restrictions. If I did center it, I would end up with a lot of wasted space, by offsetting it, I can gain a standard cabinet setup and then use the additional space for end cap style shelving on either side of the doorway. The Vidmar racking will get 6 bays with minimal leftover space, I have some ideas for that space as well, but I won't truly know what the amount I have to work with is until I actually set things up. The Lista storage wall will have a combination of the following drawer units, three of three of the standard width, two of the medium width, and two of the double width, leaving me with about 75" and I need about 60" to get the Vidmar pallet shelves through. I am thoroughly documenting all this info and making a couple of files and folders so it won't be lost or forgotten. I figure I have a good year before I start this, maybe two.

Now I am going to try and do some physical productivity. ;)

Developing a master plan, then working on the pieces of that when you can, always makes sense.

I've been trying to explain that to my wife, related to our retirement place. No sense in building stuff today if it doesn't fit the master plan. And gathering low cost pieces that pop up today that fit the plan, even if they're not being installed today, makes sense too. We're working on the overall plan, but don't have every area figured out yet. I've been trying to focus on the portions that are locked in.

I did a little bush whacking to clear out in front of the Conex and other storage boxes, I need to bring my blade adapter over, there are several things too thick for the string.

Luckily I still have one dependable friend, Perk, using the remote allowed me to get the Vidmar uprights down by myself. I only need eight of them, but I had stacks of five or one stack of six, I took the two closer ones, now I have to unstack two and put them back up there. I may wait and see if I need anymore for any reason, doing the math, I really shouldn't be able to fit anymore without severely blocking off my shop, so I guess I may not wait and see, I am going to put them back, then put Perk away.
