i don't think he means that manual, there are typically 2 manuals available from miller, the owners manual, and the much less common service manual. He really needs that service manual.

I do have the owners manual, it shows some of the schematics, but no detail on individual resistors, the “technical” manual should be what the service people would use to diagnose problems.

I hope you can get that manual. I did find one for my 330 eventually, that has a lot more info in it, but as far as individual values, i'm not sure it had that or not. I don't remember on the 300 syncro. I did find a guy who had one and sent me a pdf, but i don't remember how much additional detail. I'd be curious what you can get for the 300. I'll see if i can fwd the pdf to you.

I figure it will be here by the end of the week and we will all find out what level of detail it has.

Today I went to look at a backhoe for a buddy (not a DR tow behind ) we went to Foxboro right across from Gillette stadium, the machine was supposed to have 5200 hours on it. Well the hour meter didn’t work and the last filter change said the same hour reading as the meter read currently, so no clue what the hours were. He was steadfast on the price so my buddy decided to hold off on his decision for a few days. It was a decent machine, but had a few minor defects, but they seem to hold there value regardless of these defects.

After that we headed to meet up with another guy that I was buying some enerpac rams and pump from, then we went to my favorite used tool store and then on to the surplus electronics place I love. Nothing to speak of at the tool place, but we both bought things at the surplus place. I think I am going to buy a big scale from them, need to work out logistics, but I have to go to pick up the last welder anyways, so it may work out well. I just need to find out from the manufacturer if I can leave stuff on the scale without damaging it, not enough floor space to keep it free and clear all the time.

I have almost an identical Syncrowave 250 TIG, and I love that machine! It welds aluminum great, and steel as well.
Here's some aluminum diesel fuel tanks that I designed in CAD, has laser'd out in flat 1/8" aluminum, and then roll formed and TIG welded together.

Have you had a chance to try your Syncrowave 250? That machine could likely handle anything you'd need to do with it.

Kent, those tanks look great, I haven’t had a chance to do anything yet, I still need a torch and a few other things.

86, got the manual you sent, I think the Aerowave one will have the info I need, your manual was 70 pages and the Aerowave one is supposed to be just over 100, so the extra 30 pages makes me think there is a lot of detail on the boards. Or they used larger print.

Anyways, should have the Aerowave manual in soon and that will be exciting. Probably will need to order the proper resistors (with a few extras), then the board can get repaired and we can see if the thing will fire up.

Paperwork is OK, Dad is not so good with things. I spent close to an hour trying to get him so he understood that he owns a tower with my Aunt and that he has owned it since 2001. I am starting to get really nervous.

Worse than that, I am closing up the shop for a while, too much going on in the office, I turned the heat down, will still be going over to plow, but I don’t think much is going to happen for the next couple months. There are a lot of delicate issues that need to be dealt with and all of the info needed to get these answers is in the mess we call an office. In the end it will be worth the effort, but timing stinks as always. Stay tuned.

So after all the effort of listing things, the biggest ticket item, my MacBook Pro laptop just sold, local pickup on eBay, delivered it yesterday and had them enter final info into computer to verify it was the one they wanted, computer locked up. Some weird remote management login, no clue, I tried to fix it, no luck. The buyer was cool, asked we to try and fix it and get it back to them. It was still under warranty, Apple helped, but seemed to be a corporate thing from the previous owner. I put a call into them, they tell me computer is stolen and return it. My lawyer said to request info from them and wait. Oh how fun things can be, I bought it on eBay 18 months ago and the seller had hacked around all this remote management BS, so I had no idea it was hot, I paid going rate, my attorney says I may classify as a “bona fide purchaser”. Not sure how much effort I want to put out, but I could be out all my original money plus the computer.

I refuse to send it to someone just because they say it is theirs, I asked them for a police report and I asked if they had filed an insurance claim. If the insurance company paid out, it is theirs now and I might be able to negotiate a deal with them. My lawyer thinks I should sit tight as no prosecutor would ever chase this case, but I don’t want any trouble and I know I can make the laptop work, I would just never want to open a can of worms and sell it again. Still have not received any sort of proof of purchase, police report, insurance info, heck, I provided them with more proof of ownership than they did, I actually told them, from my perspective it looks like they hijacked my laptop. I don’t think the guy liked that.

It isn’t like I bought this thing off the back of a truck, I paid going price for a one year old laptop with no indication of fraud or theft until 18 months later. It pisses me off that they are mad at me, they should be going after the seller at this point, but whatever happens, happens.

My technical manual arrived for the Aerowave, first glance shows a lot more detail, but I didn’t see the values for the resistors. When I get home I may dig into it a bit more, tomorrow I will scan it into the computer while I am at the office.

Unfortunately the parts list is way too broad, they give some test values for certain circuits, so I may be lucky enough to have a total ohm reading, then I could figure out the value of the burnt up resistor by subtracting out the one that I can still read from this total value. They only give values but even this part is confusing, not sure if it even helps. I will definitely need to see the board again and trace the resistors.

The more I look at it, the worse the info is. They treat each board like it is a separate part, there is no individual info based on resistors, diodes, or capacitors. They give you a wiring diagram and locations to test with values you should find, but nothing detailed about the actual circuit. I guess I am back to plan B and see if I can find someone that can look at an Aerowave and see what the resistor should be.

I saw that one last night, but it is a UK based company, last resort. I guess probably the smartest thing I could do would be to take apart the entire machine and diagram every diode, resistor, capacitor, transducer, or whatever.

I have been a bit miserable with the cold and lack of shop time, winter is usually bad anyways

I have decided that I am going to use Mondays as my shop time, this week I am going to take part of Tuesday as well, I just need some balance and I have not had it for a while.

Yesterday I cleaned up the snow from the storm earlier in the week, I needed to dig out Bev so I could pick up the last welder, did that this morning.

I still have not really decided on my next course of action, the house project is in limbo due to some legal stuff, still hopeful, just disappointed that it is taking so long.

Now I have two and no torches! That is my next thing that I have to deal with, figuring out if any of my pieces and parts are worth keeping, I guess I need to start figuring out what torches they go to, should be fun.

Recommendation - superflex lines, CK230 torch. i just bought one. Uses the super lightweight 9/20 series torch parts, but still rated to 300A @ 100% duty cycle. Best of both worlds. Superflex lines are the best you can get. Very flexible and lightweight. Unless you are going to be doing over 300 amps all the time with no cool down, in which case just get the 18 series torch.
