The 12k one should be a fairly straight forward unit to fix and with minimal effort and money it will be well worth it. The electric one should get me forks that I need and almost return all the money in scrap. The last one with the three stage mast is a bit of a crapshoot, it will run, and could be used almost as it, so it may just get used, but ultimately I would like that mast on Clark, it would be a low clearance mast and it is rated for 7k pounds, I am sure the remains of the forklift will be close to 6 tons, maybe more since it is older. I am not 100% sure on anything but the 12k one right now, the electric one is probably the no brainer for the forks.

Yesterday Quickbooks desktop locked me out of the software completely, I hadn't been able to renew it as I had two credit card replacements in as many weeks, so I have almost totally been without a company card. Last year they changed the business model to a $349 annual fee, no more purchasing the software and actually owning a "lifetime" license, well earlier this year they increased that price to $549. Yesterday, the day they locked down the software so it was no longer usable, they increased the price again to $649. There is no other fully functional desktop software out there, everyone has an online version that you pay monthly per company. I run eight companies out of quickbooks, so it would cost about $500 a month to use the online version. You can't revert data to an older version, it needs to be manually exported and entered and even then you would need to rebuild everything and deal with transfer issues. To top it all off, they are having payment processing issues and can't even take a payment to renew the subscription, I even tried using a bank account, but no luck. Now I have to wait until they have live people around so I can try and figure this out. Pretty tough to enter the data when there is a padlock on the software.

Check out GNUCash. Fully open source, free, multi platform accounting software. I'm still resentfully using Quicken, but the quicker I get everything migrated to GNUCash, the better. Quicken ***** (the software is good, but the company is terrible).

I will take a look, at least that software supports printing checks, there are a few out there that do not. I was researching a secondary check printing software yesterday. Quickbooks is most likely going to get their pound of flesh for this year, I don't have the time right now to start something new, I wish this had happened a month ago, then I could have done everything in the new software.

I have been trying to load the 5 ton tractor for two days now, first it wouldn’t start, then just when I get it primed my booster pack is drawn down too far to keep cranking, next day I get it started, drive it up to where I can unhook the trailer, actually unhook the trailer, then it won’t start (I had to turn it off as it has no water pump since the alternator is seized and the belt went on a permanent vacation). Seemed that the tanks were both out of fuel, fuel gauge doesn’t work either and the tank has a crazy anti siphon screen in it, so you can’t easily stil the tank unless you have a coat hanger sized wire handy. Fast forward to this morning, I add 5 gallons to each tank (the switching valve is stuck and I don’t know what tank it is on), prime the system, almost get it to start and then the booster pack has had enough. I am now putting two normal truck batteries in it, but I have to reconfuckulate all the terminals since I only have one top post and one stud terminal battery. :(

My priming extender makes me feel like I am using a shake weight. Probably takes 100 pumps to get anything that feels like fuel moving.

Since the question was asked recently, this is how I load and fold the tail when things don’t fit on the fixed deck. The tail pushes the load forward about 8”, so you have to account for that. If the load is free rolling, you need to keep it from rolling away when you lift the tail and when the tail goes down. Yes, I know it is missing a door, that is from Dad. IMG_5972.jpeg

I feel your pain with crookbooks. I really like the software but they're just trying to get everyone online now by raising the costs. I am dealing with the same issues as you and on top of that, we had a corrupted file earlier this year and they charged us $1400 to fix it, which only took 10 minutes. That was a tough pill.

I honestly think, as I tighten my tinfoil hat, all these online only and crazy price increases for desktop versions are going to work hand in hand with the new IRS 2.0, the one with the AI upgrade, they will just open the books to them and let it find every mistake (honest or not) and destroy every thing that it can in its path.

Just dumped the army truck and then brought back the roller so my neighbor can use it on the driveway. Now I can finally get started loading up the remaining things for the auction. I am not sure how much of my stuff will end up over there at this point, it is what it is. Maybe this afternoon I can get some stuff together. Not sure if there will be any room by tomorrow, even so, the stuff would be so far down the line it wouldn’t be worth bringing over. :(

Those racks look a heck of a lot nicer over at the auction yard! I am working at the Salvage Garage now, I need to unload the little dump trailer, then load up the last few things to go to the auction. Plan is to get there first thing, kind of messed up though, I have Perk with me, and I really need the Blurb, not worth driving back and forth right now. I can make it happen with little to no traffic in the morning. Just some extra seat time. Tough to get the logistics down with one person and multiple trucks.

Well it did end up attacking my arm, but I startled it, so it was my fault. Not quite as good as a wood chuck, but better than nothing.

On another Quickbooks pain in the *** note, they can't renew my subscription because I didn't purchase it through them, I now have to buy one from them directly, I have been trying to use my account portal to "resubscribe" it goes through the process, then dies with an error message telling me to try later.

On the phone paying the ransom now, $670 later...

The weather is much nicer this morning, not nearly as damp/humid. I am at the Salvage Garage, have to get my paperwork together for Perk, need to renew registration. I am going to do that and go to the bank first thing, then I will finish loading and haul stuff to the auction yard. After that I am not sure, probably go through the straps and chains on the Muv-All and get things cleaned up a bit. I had some tangled chains yesterday that made it difficult to get things out of the box. I want to be ready to roll tomorrow about 7 AM for the first forklift.

It is funny how the brain works, I was headed out to go to do my errands and then thought for a minute, it is morning rush, I am going to waste so much time in traffic. Glad I at least thought about it before really getting on the road, I turned around at the end of my driveway and proceeded to load things up. I am almost done loading, then I will go to the auction first and avoid the majority of the traffic when I go to City Hall for the registration.

I have been using quickbooks since 1999. And have come to hate them for the reasons you describe. I'm comfortable & fast using it, but the "$100 program" has become a thief. Time for someone to figure out how to import their files, undercut their hostage pricing, & make a fortune by stealing their customers. Hmm... maybe someone already has... time to search.

After some searching & seeing some possibilities, I'm gonna call the accountant & see if there is another program that he works with. Thanks for the reminder before I get the next ransom note & have to pay to get access to our records.

I was told last year that my 2019 Mac version of desktop wouldn’t work with the new computer, total lie, had I not swapped to 2022, this wouldn’t even be an issue. Definitely have to figure out a solution and break up their racket, we used to pay $400 for the software and usually got three or four years out of it before needing to upgrade, even then it felt forced and arbitrary. So let’s say in 2019 you would pay $100 a year for the desktop software, now in 2023 it is $650, seems like a legit increase, right?

Intuit doesn’t allow you to “downgrade” or go back to an earlier version either, there are companies that do it, but I can do it as well and they charge an arm and a leg too.

Had it all loaded, moved it back a bit so it could be chained to the rails without lifting it, but I overlooked one thing, can you spot the problem? I figured it out the second I hit 45 MPH.
