I can already tell today isn’t going to go as well as I hoped. Last night I set my alarm earlier than normal, except the default setting is PM and I didn’t catch it since it is relatively new to me. I can’t really understand why that would be the default setting, but whatever, so I had 15 minutes to get in and out of the bathroom, my watch hardly got a charge, now I am headed out the door already feeling defeated!

My Iphone is like that and has bitten me before. When you open the app to set the alarm, it shows the current time AM or PM. I have learned to always scroll up through the settings so it switches to AM. Or just checking helps too!

I was already tired, so I just missed it, regardless I think having it default to AM would be better for the majority of people wanting to use the alarm. I am just going to setup a bunch of premade times, then I can just turn them on based on the desired time to wake up.

I spent a little time investigating some of my auction buys, I am pretty sure the lexan door that was in the $10 pile is for a John Deere G and D Series skid steer. It has a few scratches that I think can be fixed, a bit of polishing and it should be decent enough to sell. It has the latch, hinge, and windshield wiper, so if I can't make the lexan look good enough, those parts are something worth selling. The small roller really needs to be cleaned up, adjusted and get a fresh coat of paint, in the spring it will sell really quickly compared to right now. The larger sheeps foot compactor had an optional smooth roller attachment, I am going to do some investigating as that would make it a really useful piece of equipment for me. Most of the oil pans in the $10 pile were from an 8.3 cummins, not sure of what years they fit, but they were off newer trucks, guess the pans needed to be changed because of the plow frame work. I am trying to get things cleaned up for the rain, supposed to be a little this afternoon and then a deluge Saturday. I feel like I need to spend more time getting things ready for winter than I do trying to sell random things. At least having an idea of what the stuff is helps make the decision on if they are even worth the time and effort. The roller is getting all the lowballers *****, it has gotten to the point that when they offer $300 I tell them I will take $1500 ($500 more than I am asking), results are mixed. ;)

Yeah, I do the same thing. When I list something as "$300, price is firm," and someone offers me $250, I counter with $350. They usually get the message.

Apparently one of my long time tower rental customers has been acquired by some huge company and now they won't pay my invoices until I pay (through wire transfer) them $10 (plus my fees), they say this is to prevent fraud and ensure I have the correct banking info. This **** is getting ridiculous. On top of that, I submitted the invoice a month ago, now they tell me because I am not a "vendor" in their system I have to wait another 60 days after I setup the online portion of things. I don't think I am going to get paid until next year at this point, not too happy about it as it is not an insignificant amount and the payment timeframe change was quite unexpected. To say that this will slow my forklift acquisitions is an understatement and I have already found the next candidate...

When i see an ad and the price is firm, i don't even contact them if i don't want to pay that much. I've had very limited success selling things. I get just ridiculous lowballs on stuff.

Perhaps if you could escalate up the food chain it might help. Sounds like an accounting clerk reading off a script.

The trouble is that there are laws with a tenant and landlord, even in the business world, they have deeper pockets than I do. Next year I will bill it earlier now that I know they are net 60 days. Back when I installed antennas for certain companies they would have 180 day terms, it was awful, you had to have a couple hundred thousand just to make it through the initial hit. When the work was on one of our towers I could generally make that issue go away.

The rain is closing in, going to get a few more things put inside, then head out to get some lunch and probably do some errands. I didn't get as much as I would have liked to get done, but on a good note, I did tweak my back moving the warehouse door again. :(

At least it is inside, swept a lot of the flaking paint off, doesn’t seem think enough to be lead, but who knows.

It's a shame you didn't have a forklift that could have helped you move that door. :lol_hitti

Technically I did use a forklift, but there wasn’t a good way to get it stood up and into the shop, I slid it off the forks to help stand it up, then slid it back onto the forks so it would slide easier. It wasn’t too bad, I definitely felt it though.

I may or may not have overreacted to the news that Best Buy is going to stop selling DVDs and BluRay discs after this year. Guy had about 2500 and I took all of them at about 30 cents each. There were many boxed sets and TV series sets too, all at the same price. The local Music store buys the crappy ones for about that price, maybe a little less. The plan is to pick out the gems and unload the rest fairly quick. Luckily the majority of the 20 boxes are alphabetically organized, should make things much easier. Would be nice if I can recoup what I spent on just the ones that need to go away, then the rest will wait for my triumphant eBay return. ;)

I started looking at the DVDs, going to take a mix of them over to the local place that buys them and see where they land price wise. I need to do a thorough peruse so I can take out the obvious good ones, junk ones, and keepers. Looks like as far as eBay goes the best way to sell them is to curate a selection that fit together. I was seeing 100 disc lots selling for $300 plus or minus, after fees and any handling it would still make a decent profit. I figured it more of a winter project, but if I can get any that will sell to the local place for 75 cents or better would be quick money, especially the run of the mill ones. I suspect there will be lots that won’t even bring a dime though, so they will have to be put into lots. Fun stuff, just another way to waste time I don’t have! ;)

I feel bad, the Hyster P60 is going to be out in the rain for the first time in about 25 years. :(

I felt the same way many years ago after Grandma Ida sold her house and we got her 8' Redwood picnic table and benches. That table had lived it's entire 30+ year life inside a screened porch with a plastic flannel backed table cloth covering it.

That first winter it sat in our back yard, covered in snow. You could almost hear it wailing "Why have you forsaken me?"

Office work, then I have no idea, thinking I am going to change out the battery in my laptop so I can use it again. Then might play with the DVDs a bit. Downloaded a couple apps that scan barcodes to make up a full list of your "collection", this would be much easier than trying to deal with things in any manual format. I will probably take some over today to see what they will pay, then I was thinking I could go to the tower site and remove that equipment. Have to stop by the Salvage Garage as well, I need my hydraulic power unit for the jacks so I can change the tires on Dad's truck down in the quonset hut, I won't be doing that today, but I want to be ready. The weather is still annoying, wasn't supposed to be raining, but it is. :(

Going to eat lunch now, Chuck got up, so I fed him, got the MacBook battery swapped, it is currently charging for calibration purposes, I will be able to use it later today to actually see how the new battery works. I used parts from iFixit, the instructions they gave were to completely disassemble the laptop so you could use this toxic adhesive remover without damaging the other components, I saw a couple other videos where they used frosting spatulas to break the adhesive from underneath, I had a putty knife, wasn’t as easy as the spatula would have been, but save well over an hour of effort. Currently at 22% up from 19% when we started.

This morning Chuck was completely buried under the blankets, he really likes to tuck himself in.

It was interesting talking to the clerk, she told me right off the bat they don’t take any full screen movies, I had dumped some full screen movies in the bag to see. I brought 36 items in and they took 6 items, it would have been a little over $4 in cash or $6.26 in store credit, I use this place frequently, so I took the store credit. They would have taken more, but I set the low limit at 50 cents just to see. They will not give you an individual dollar amount, only a lump sum, so I will have to bring in one or two and get an idea of how much lower than 50 cents we were at. On the next batch I will try 30 cents to make sure I at least break even. Technically I paid less than 25 cents for the individual DVDs, the BluRay and TV seasons would have been closer to 50 cents. It will be a fun little endeavor for the colder months.

Yup, going to see who else buys as well.

I had just enough time before it started raining to get the air filter, choke cable, and fuel filter installed on the P60, it is running off the actual fuel tank. I did add some more gas to create a bit more of an octane boost. The gas tank and the hydraulic tank are both welded to the frame of the forklift, not sure why they did that, but it is going to be tougher to clean for sure. At least they have a decent drain plug, I might try making some home-brew evaporust so I can fill the tank and let it do its thing. I would guess the tank is close to 15 gallons and that would be a lot of buckages to fill it with evaporust. The choke cable was tested at full length with a service loop and it worked fine, the only hangup was in the actual linkage on the carb, it has a spot that has to be overcome before it works smooth, even with that I can set the choke wherever I need to. I still need to replace a few more lines and add some cable ties or clamps to hold things tight, but it is pretty close to being ready for primetime. I measured the forks that I have in stock and the ones from another forklift project will fit without any modifications. I need to swap tires/rims and then there is cosmetics, lights need to be added, seat replaced, rear compartment fixed (looks like someone tried to pull something with it and tore it out).

The other day I also bought a fire alarm box, it is a rather unique one that I hadn't seen before, designed to be on a pedestal and unfortunately it is missing one of the front covers. It is probably going to be tough to find, but I can make a blank for it out of regular steel until I happen upon one that is cast iron. The thing weighs a lot, even has the key.

Ok I am lost on the DVD, what do they mean by full screen movie? Oh wait movies that were formatted to the old square TV box?
Exactly, technically the older movies and TV shows were widescreen. Usually the fullscreen version would get stretched to fit, so the edges were all messed up. I think they also chopped pieces and parts depending on what format you are viewing. I am sure that someone out there is still watching VHS tapes and full screen DVDs on a nice Trinitron...

The new MacBook battery is still functioning, I pulled the plug on it at 9 PM and set it to not go to sleep and not turn off the screen, it did go into the screen saver, but it still has 15% battery life. The manufacturer says to let it run the battery down until it goes into a forced sleep mode, then recharge it to full capacity again and everything should be calibrated. I am going to do a few other things as well like reset the PRAM and another suggestion was to do an SMC reset, got to google that one.

Looks like today is going to dry up, so I will be over at the Salvage Garage trying to get a load of scrap together, hopefully involving the electric forklift. I have better lights at the Hill, so I can do things after dark a lot easier, can be second shift. ;)

Spent two hours cutting up the old coax, just brought one type in, also a coil of bare copper, $750 total, not too bad, but I should have done it when prices were higher. Would have been a grand. :(

I am headed to the Salvage Garage to gather up the heavy stuff and work on dismantling the electric forklift. If I can get two steel trips done this week and another load of wire, that would make me feel good. I still have a lot of copper wire, then next week there will be a lot that gets removed from the house at the Hill.

Old TV was 4:3 aspect ratio. You are speaking of the reformatting of movies in widescreen for 4:3 old tube tv's which was called "pan and scan" where they try to keep the vertical resolution and chop parts off to fit the tv aspect ratio. Pretty much everything since the late 90's is now formatted for 16:9 aspect which is now the standard for TV's.

I definitely need to put some effort into the Hyster P60A carb, it will barely run off choke, especially if you give it and throttle. To be fair, it is running off 25 year old gas with a splash of fresh stuff. At least the filter doesn't look bad, I think the carb might be the same one as on Clark, if so, I might swap them, Clark runs pretty well in comparison. I just need another month or two in October and I should be able to get ready for winter with ease.
