We had an inch on the ground this morning when i woke up. It switched to rain though and now it's just drizzly. One nice thing about Michigan. Surrounded by lakes, they act as a buffer. Everybody west of lake Michigan gets hammered with cold, the wind goes over the lake and it picks up the water, dumps it in the west shore and we just get warmer wind. Unless it's blowing REALLY hard and then my place gets hit. It's about the easternmost edge of the lake effect band. But our spring takes longer to get here too, so it cuts both ways.

Hope you're surviving ok over there. I keep watching the big youtube forcasts and think of you in south Maine. Hang in there brother.

The Hill has well over a foot, at the tower site there is close to 16” and it is still snowing. Only saving grace is the ground is frozen solid instead of mud.

I got gypped. 6 inches instead of the promised 10+. This is the winter of our discontent... I guess I'm lucky, 7 miles away from right here they got less than 3 inches, and in my childhood, we used to get house covering drifts and 1 and 2 foot snows all the time. On that same 2.5" spot.

Done with my last appointment, now I have to go to the bank, then pick up some parts for my Buddy (not the one that left me storing his plow for 2 1/2 weeks).

The plan is to clean up the driveway at the house, then go to the Salvage Garage and clean up over there. Tuesday will be the Hill and tower site cleanup. I am thinking that if I don't disturb the some of the snow it will get rained and melted away, but the bankings are probably not going away, just have to be a bit logical about where I want the bankings. Who knows it may be another rain storm after Wednesday and then all the snow will be gone.

I always keep at least one complete shear bolt/pin in an extra hole in the snowblower handlebars. Saved my rear more than once. A must if you travel with the snowblower to different sites.

I just get home, neighbor is snow blowing his driveway, has to stop and intercept me while I am almost inside so he can quiz me about snowblower voltages and adding light bulbs using resistors and diodes. Seriously, dude doesn’t ever remember my name, it is 15 degrees out and after 10 PM! WTF

I have to finish up the plowing at the tower and the Hill, going to grab my back pack blower, I think it will work better to clear some places, like the stairs and trailers. Not sure if I am going to make it back to the Salvage Garage to do any final cleanup, last night I got the important areas ready for the rain. I think the only thing that would have been smart to do would be to knock down the bankings where the equipment is parked and clear off Clark, Bev, and the track crane, maybe the BFF too. We will see how the day shapes out.

Hows the snowfall there? Seems to be a non-event here. I came to work but almost nobody else did.

Got 16 to 18” at the Hill and Salvage Garage, my house got about a foot. This next storm is coming in tonight and is supposed to start as a bit of snow, then turn over to a wind driven rain, might get 2” of rain. Next couple days they are calling for 40s, so I am just doing preventative maintenance now by removing snow from things. It might not all melt, if it doesn’t, it will be near impossible to remove it later. Not worth the risk, but I am hopeful that things go back to bare ground again and we don’t get anymore snow for the rest of the winter.

I feel your pain. At least my plowing is all within a tractor drive (1/2 mile), and I don't have to move more than 7 cars.

Wow, you have had a busy day! It's nice to feel like you got enough done to mitigate future weather. I follow every day, but don't feel qualified to comment often, anyway I'm the guy who suggested cat stretches for your back.
So, after today, If you haven't gotten an inversion machine, I hope you'll stretch your back this evening. It will make a difference in your outlook tomorrow. Just my two cents. Don't do cat stretches in front of Chuck though, he might think you're being aggressive toward him. LOL

Definitely will be stretching, my back doesn’t like all the shoveling, luckily it isn’t super heavy snow, but it is still snow. I took the bankings down, but I am not clearing off the equipment, I think the best thing will be to wait and see on that, if I dump all the snow on the ground it could make things worse and I do not have enough time (or will power) to move things out tonight. That would be ideal, clear them off while they are out of the parking spot, then clean up the mess after. Thursday and Friday are supposed to be much warmer, making starting things easier too, plus there should be a lot less (or maybe none) left with the rain and warm temps.

This is one of those times it might have been better to leave the snow.
You and I may have an icy mess where it's plowed come late week. 40* and overcast isn't going to do a lot of melting I fear.

I figured if I just left it, then I would have heavily crusted snow pack that I wouldn’t be able move later, at least now it will be fairly manageable. Essentially, I cleared everywhere that I would need cleared, might try and shuffle a few more areas. If the Hill’s driveway clears enough, I will move some stuff back down to the bottom now that I have it cleaned up.

One good thing is that the temps are up, the rain has pretty much stopped and there is lots of wind, this should help get rid of the standing water. There is plenty of snow left, but the roads are clear, hopefully the same will be true at the Hill.

The driveway at the Hill took some serious hits along the sides since the snow banks blocked the normal run off path, everything else is pretty much as I expected, the bankings and areas where there is no sun are still prominent. Most of the equipment has cleared itself off and the sun has just come out, so I expect that most of the snow will be gone except the largest bankings. Unfortunately the ground will also thaw, so if we do get snow on Saturday, it is going to be tougher to plow. My fingers are crossed that we just get more rain.

The forecast looks like we are going to get more rain, then it starts to freeze up again. I think I will take the time to get the sander in the Ford, I am sure it won’t function without some work and I would like to find out now rather than when I actually need it.

Now my issue is that everywhere that the **** dirt the previous employee installed is a pure mud pit. No way it will dry up before it freezes again, going to have to deal with it. Hopefully I can shuffle things without getting stuck. This picture is where it has ledge under it, some areas will be really bad.

Do you have to shuffle stuff now with the ground being thawed? Can you wait until early morning, and do that when the ground is frozen? Even a skim layer of frozen would prevent making a large mess.

Kent, most of the things that need to be shuffled wouldn’t start easily when cold, so it is not worth waiting, then wasting most of the day trying to get things running. It was 50 out a little while ago, but temps are dropping and the sun is fading. I will run the roller over my wheel ruts before taking it to the bottom of the Hill. I have a decent plan right now and things are shaping up. No matter what I do, I am always fighting something, nothing is ever easy.

I didn’t get into the fact that my Dad had brought the front end loader over before the storm, but today he brought it up and shoved in the Quonset hut, never any discussion, can’t wait to see what is next, I am thinking of just putting the roller in there and letting him deal with it, then I can just say that I thought he wanted all his equipment inside. He did tell me afterwards that I can close the door because he knows I need to get the sander out of there anyways. Always something, I was just going to attempt to move a boat so that I could get the middle freed up for the loader. Best part is that he is so passive aggressive, he didn’t bring the bucket, so I can’t even use it to move snow or anything, seems about right.
