Not sure what you mean, it is pipe threads, so rotation is determined by the threads, otherwise it could leak.

Looks like the bung may show up today, so maybe tomorrow afternoon I can mess around with things on the parts washer. I need to get all the wiring figured out, not sure that the VFD will fit in the current enclosure, if so it is going to complicate things a bit.

Today I have a delivery of cabinets coming to the Hill, some are going to the Salvage Garage, but it was easier to get them all to one place.

I have nine cabinets and four office chairs showing up today, trying to make some room to get things put away. Hopefully the cabinets will work for me, they are card file cabinets, but they have three rows in each drawer instead of the normal two, I will probably sell the older ones, will post pics when they arrive.

Then I have to move stuff for boat access, Dad wants to start getting boats next week.

My normal help for tomorrow is not available, but it sounds like by the end of the summer he will be working with me essentially every Friday and Saturday. If that happens, things will start to get done for sure, I will be happy about that. Got to start getting prepped for winter. ;)

I took out all the drawers and the cabinets are still too heavy to move by myself. :(
IMG_0132.jpegIMG_0131.jpegIMG_0134.jpeg

I put them all in the conex figuring I could use them, the floor is so messed up that the drawers just open up, not good, if they were loaded, they would tip over. It took me a few minutes to decide what I was going to do, then it took a while longer to gather up all the materials, but I think I have a plan. I am going to make a base that will hold six of the cabinets, the other two are going to the Salvage Garage. There is a wider shallow one that I haven’t figured out where I would like to use it yet.

Those are IBM punch card deck storage. I used to live with thousands of them.

Thanks for the info Kay, they are very heavy duty. I may try and detach the dividers from one to see if it is "structural", the way they formed the bottom it doesn't appear that they are, but once I remove one it should be obvious. Regardless they are going to be extremely useful for supplies and hardware that I don't need cluttering up the shop. With my space requirements I have to pair down the Lista cabinets a bit (at the Hill), so these will more than make up for that.

Strouty I think that if you slide that backer all the way to the front of the drawer, it should just lift out. Won’t have to mess with the tracks at all.

I should have been more clear, the long dividers, not the adjustable ones, those just come out no problem. The other ones are spot welded in.

I am going to try and hit it with the grinder before using a special tool, the top piece is just scrap, so not really worried about any damage to it.

I just spent 20 minutes looking for my extension cord for the welder, no where to be found, then I remembered that Dad had used it in the wood shop, sure enough still plugged into the planer. Damn kids, never putting things back when they borrow them!

The manufacturers (read engineers) of all these nice dry cut steel saws (probably same on the abrasive style) should just be beaten with a pipe. I finally just made some appropriate pieces of wood, but why, just why, would anyone make the top of the base 3 1/4” tall? You can fudge it a bit when the steel is long, but not when you get in around five feet, it won’t sit flat on the base. Love the saw, hate the design. My evolution brand is the same way. :(

I think you are far underestimating the amount of projects I have.

I really wish I had just built this over at the Salvage Garage, trying to do it fast on the floor didn’t do me any favors. I had to use a ten pound sledge to adjust things, of course I hit it one too many times, luckily this should never be seen again. ;)

A couple more pieces to weld in and then it is ready for action, I may paint it, then head off to do my Mother’s Day rounds. I have plenty of light over by the conex, so I can work after dark if needed. This thing looks terrible overall, the welds are ****, I should have closed the door, the little breeze was messing with my shielding gas, then I did some downhill welds to try and cover up my terrible uphill ones. I definitely need to get welding again, I know I haven’t done any since Dad took my cord and that was a while ago, I think it was when I did some repairs to a trailer I shipped to the auction.

Welding on occasion isn't the best way to get good welds. About the time you finish doing a project the welds are decent and then you start all over the next time you need to weld again.

I got the framework done with some paint, then found that there are three different cabinet sizes. :(

Guess I should have measured them all. I can make it work with one combination, but my new framework is about 3” too long. I am going to do one more measurement, I do not want to mess with this a third time. Glad I figured it out before loading it up. That would have been a real nightmare.

Take those longitudinal dividers out, and the drawers become uselessly weak and saggy.

I am going to try one drawer, the way they made the base, it really looks like it may be more rugged than some of the other cabinets I have had. Worst case is I have one drawer to fix out of 60.

Got everything prepped, now I have to figure out what I am doing for the modification on the overall length. It ***** because it is going to throw off all my bracing, I hope it won’t be an issue, only one way to find out.

Second round of measuring and it looks like I am off by 1.5” not the three that I originally thought. I bet it will be closer to an inch once everything is in the frame, I am going to roll with it, I can build a front panel that could be use to hang things. I think that is better than me cutting and reworking one end. I could just use some 3/4” plywood on both ends, that would also be enough. Going to start assembling and see what makes sense. Most likely I will just **** the end up and leave the front long, then I can add the panel or whatever.

Almost perfect, looks like about an inch, perfect for some plywood.

IMG_0146.jpegIMG_0147.jpeg

Now to get everything jammed in, had to move the base out a bit to get them into place. Should be a dang good fit when done. Some of the cabinets had leveling feet and others didn’t, I tipped one on its end to verify no leveling feet, never realized there were multiple styles. Caused a bit of grief until I realized that was what the trouble was.

Got all the drawers back in, now I am trying to figure out what types of bins will fit the drawers. Found some, but they are about $55 per drawer and 60 drawers, well, just too much. I have some of the Schaller bins, but I think they are going to be pretty short compared to the drawer. They have some on eBay that are a great price, still be almost $2k to fill the drawers. Most likely I will buy some, then see what else will work for me. They are 6 3/16” wide by 26 3/4” deep with three identical rows. Looks like 4 1/2” tall would clear, the Scahller are 2 3/4” tall.

I will most likely weld or bolt some angle iron to keep them situated.

The more that I thought about things, I was going to spend too much time messing with a "homemade" solution, I just ordered 384 of the Schaller bins. I expect them to be here this week, they ship from only two states over. These won't be full height and I can deal with that, besides this is only about half of what I actually needed to fill the drawers. I figure this way I can have room for other types of bins as well.

FWIW, I saw somebody here on GJ use blue electrical boxes for drawer organization. They just cut the mounting ears off on a bandsaw....

I have some of those in another cabinet I bought, it crossed my mind for sure. I will have enough to fill 32 drawers, should take me a while to do that and I am sure that there will be plenty of drawers where I have odd things that the bins just won't work for. I am trying to get a few things moved around and then load up some scrap. I am going to go to the Salvage Garage and get the light iron stuff, not really worth much, but at least it will pay for my fuel.

I have been trying to buy an 8' utility body for the 3500, three so far, every time I ask when I can come look at it and they tell me "later", then mark it as sold shortly there after. Most recent one was this morning, kind of frustrating, sellers just don't care, one guy said he would take PayPal, then after saying he would send me an invoice, he marked it as pending, thought that was for me, no invoice, sold. :(

I found some more storage solutions to problems I don’t have. This weekend I am supposed to pick up several interesting cabinets, they are like a rotating file cabinet with two sides and several drawers. I think they will work well for larger things. Also trying to buy a sprayer so I can deal with the weeds and poison oak at the tower sites. I want to kill the stuff, last year I ripped it out prior to realizing what it was, that was an itchy month.

Almost done loading at the SG, then headed back to the Hill, I have more stuff to load in the trailer before it goes to the scrap yard. I also NEED to get some of my cabinets and things listed in Marketplace, not only would some dollars be nice, but having the space back would be welcome too.

Office work this morning, then I am going to try and get the scrap loaded and taken to the scrap yard. I am not sure how the rest of the day is going to shape up and tomorrow is already a lost cause, have to take my Dad to his surgery, he is having some cancerous tissue removed from his neck similar to what I had done with my forehead, I expect that to be a most of the day ordeal. I am not sure how I got wrangled into that, schedule conflicts for something or other.

If I make it out of the office, I will update later...

I have an interesting tidbit for you.

I have had a Lowes credit card for about 17 years, I always pay it off monthly. Last month I got a voicemail from the fraud department, I was concerned about it so I called the direct number on the card, same thing, they said they would send me a letter in the mail for verification. I figured no big deal, but they locked my card from use until I verify. So I get the letter, it wants a bunch of things that I actually can't supply because technically the business name has changed and I never updated things, that is my fault for sure. So I go to pay off the balance today by logging into the portal, nope, I am now locked out of that. I explained the situation, they won't tell me the balance, I do not get paper statements and they told me that to verify I have to go through a facial biometric process using my camera on my phone and give them images of my license. This seemed more like a scam than anything, but apparently Synchrony bank (they handle the credit) does this for new applications and in any case they think there is "fraud". So for 17 years I have used and paid off the card monthly and I am now a fraud case. I am not sure how this is going to play out, but no way in hell am I giving them facial ID for this. The only good thing is that I am pretty sure this account is not personally guaranteed by me and the old business is no longer in operation, so might be a "good luck to them" scenario. I suspect they will send me a notice that will tell me how much I owe at some point. A bit frustrating to be treated this way and I still don't know what started the entire process, I suspect it is just a way for them to get every card holder's biometrics.

I would definitely not put my credit on the line because of a suspicion that they will send you something that tells you how much you owe at some point. I'd just get it over with and drop them.

Unfortunately they won't tell me anything about the account without going through the "verification" process.
Try going to Customer Service in a Lowe’s store and tell them you want to pay your full balance but don’t have the statement. Don’t bother telling them the story behind the account. Just want to pay it.

Waiting for a late payment notice will likely get you an amount, but also will come with interest and late fees.
