Unfortunate for all the normal people.

Had to reschedule the vapor barrier until after 4th of July, on a good note, I called the locksmith about getting some things rekeyed and he said he could do it today, like now, so we are at the tower site and things are almost done. That is the type of service you love. He remembered installing some of our other locks a while back.

He changed out the locks and made one door a different key for the new customer, lubed up all the doors and it was just over $300, I thought that was fair and it is done. One less thing on the list, I will need to get some new doors, the bottoms are getting pretty soft. These are metal commercial doors, I expect them not to be cheap.

That is true, they are probably pretty heavy. I think I remember a new one int he Quonset hut, going to have to take a peak. Also need to measure each door, they may all be different sizes, that would ****. At least all the locks mechanisms are the same. I think I may get one more that is already keyed to our keys just to keep around.

Tomorrow morning I am picking up the remaining trinkets from the place I got the drill bits from. I just need to figure out where things are going, I am running out of room fast. This weekend should allow me to make a bit more space, but I really want to get the maroon burb torn down if possible. Once that is done, I can hijack the wheels and tires from it, that will allow me to remove the nice ones from the Blurb (also get the rear wheel spacers off). Once those are freed up, I will bring the 3500 in and swap the differential pan, transmission pan, add the spacers, and swap the tires over. That will really make a difference. Today I got the radio installed, swapped out the headlight switch that was acting up, and installed the vent visors. I still have to swap out the speakers in the doors and I think it has some behind the seats too. I am getting it to the point where it will be road trip worthy, I think I should also swap out the front seat, it is pretty flattened out and isn't super comfortable.

It is actually just a little one. I haven't had a chance to do any research on it, made in Japan and it is 70 pounds. It hadn't been abused too badly, so I thought it would be nice to have something around. They had another one that was much heavier, but no markings and it had been abused, welded to, you name it, he wanted $750 for that one. I am not really sure how much I ended up paying for the individual items because we kept lumping things into one lot. In the end, the stuff I got last week plus this stuff cost me about a grand with fuel and tolls. I got a bunch of ceramic belts for the grinder as well. Need to do a bit of research, it looks like you can put a much wider belt on it, maybe 6", definitely 4".

I am working on making room to get these trinkets inside at the Salvage Garage. Almost have enough room, just need to shuffle the big parts washer, but that means I have to shuffle ten other things....

TIL twisting straps a half turn helps them be more aerodynamic and decreases vibration and rubbing.

The grinder appears to have been heavily modified, I would say that the base and the main shaft are about the only things that are original. The motor is a 2 HP 3 phase, the belts are 2” by 72”. Made by C H Besly out of Chicago. Not sure what I am going to do with it, but I am sure it will eat metal like nobody’s business.

The D rings must have been for a specific repeated load. There's a perfectly good rub rail directly below them and I would find them in my way seeing the trailer isn't 8'6 like most of them are today.

I ended up getting a hydraulic pump setup instead of going to the Hill, now I have to make more room to put it inside, I really wish I had just gone to the Hill.

I think I have a plan for this weekend that will actually make things feel like they are progressing, Top Secret though, right until it isn't.

As for the anvil, it is what the anvil people call an ASO, or "Anvil Shaped Object", basically not good quality. It has absolutely no rebound, so it is just a chunk of cast iron. Glad it was lumped into the bulk price so I don't know what I really paid for it, meaning it could be that I paid $5 and that would make it a decent deal...

I think it could be reconfigured to have one side flat horizontal and the other side vertical. It would be absolutely awesome if I can do that. I will get it powered up in the next few days, they had already torn out part of the electrical and we tried to get power to test it, but no luck, they were using it until they moved to the new building they had built. I have no reason to doubt the guy, it was a “big, small” operation, lots of space, but not a ton of employees.

So I checked out my truck cab situation, I thought I had remembered a pretty clean regular cab, I think we have a full almost rust free donor cab at the SG. Now I just have to decide if I want to go and get a frame or do the repairs to this one. I think I would prefer to get another frame, but I suspect I won’t have to travel as far to find one in good condition. It will most likely end up being galvanized so I won’t have to worry about it rusting in the future.

I think that one of my largest problems at the Salvage Garage is that most of my junk is non running stuff. I figure that if I concentrate on making that stuff go away first and not worry (yet at least) about the running stuff, that should create space and allow me to be flexible in the future. Same goes for the Hill, going to try and get rid of the non running stuff first, the running stuff will end up at the Salvage Garage. I know that I am shooting for the moon with just about everything I am doing, but I think this is a reasonable plan to get me moving forward fairly quickly. It should also free up some needed space.

Strouty follow through is the important part of that plan. Don’t get caught in the “if I just fixed it up a bit I’d get more $” thoughts. You’ve got to stay tough. The crucial part is making it go away.

I wasn’t talking about doing repairs to make them running, I was talking about dismantling and getting rid of the non running stuff, minus two forklifts that just need a carb, those will get fixed and sold, I can’t justify not doing that.

I have been attacking things from the, “stop tripping over it” angle, it has been working but there are a lot of trip hazards in my life right now.

That would work, except there isn't anything I would leave there, it would go to the SG or scrap.

I was too lazy last night to bring home the tilt trailer, so now that I am at the Hill, I can see a bunch of things to bring over to the SG, but I have no trailer. I have some smaller stuff that I can grab, I just need to get moving, I did a few office type things and now I need to get outside. I brought the new carb over to the SG the other day, so I guess I should see about getting that forklift mobile. Once that is mobile, I can get to the stuff behind it a lot easier. I need to make some room for things, got to have a layout that won't have me shuffling things all the time.

Regardless, I'm still amazed at what you do get done in spite of buying stuff. Proceed forward, good luck with the forklift carb!! Hopefully that will get it running.

I just finished a tilt cylinder reseal kit on the skid steer.

Had to also replace a hard line last weekend. The dealer had it in stock, which was helpful. I ordered the seal kit on ebay because it was way cheaper. I still have some hoses that will need replaced, but that is a project for another day....

I am not nearly as stressed out about all this as people would think, I am looking at all of this like a fun adventure, there will be danger around every corner, plundering of marketplace, and treasure to be found without a map!

The carburetor works perfectly only had to set the throttle stop, it would die if you didn’t have just a bit of throttle. I wish I hadn’t messed with the used stuff at all, it isn’t like I want to go into carburetor rebuilding. Of course when you start with a mix of random junk parts and try to make something good, it doesn’t always work. On Monday I am going to order two more of them and be done with the carburetor drama. I spent enough on rebuild kits and used parts to buy at least one new one.

Now my only issue is the fuel line routing, I need a 90 and it is an inverted flare that I don’t have here, pretty sure there is one at the Hill, but that doesn’t really help me right now. I need to drain and flush the gas tank, then fill it with some new gas and I think it will be fine after that.

The really bad part is that I am pretty sure this is just a $200 amazon Chinese carb that I paid $375 for. I haven't found one difference in physical shape, colors, or brackets. I think the people I bought it from added a few extra things like a filter, some clamps, gaskets, and hose adapters, but nothing worth the additional money. I have to confirm that I can make them work on the other two forklifts, linkages may not work across the board. I am still going to call the main supplier instead of the reseller I dealt with, most likely will try one of the amazon specials, worst case, if they are different, I can use that on the one I am selling.

I listed the forklift on marketplace, just trying to get out from under it before I do anything else to it. If I have to do repairs, it is going to get taken down and relished later with all the repairs done. I expect to have people lowballing me (people like me), but I am really at the bottom end of the pricing, just hope it goes away.

With some more funds, I can fix the next one, that one will be worth more effort as it is in nicer shape and will lift 8k instead of 6k.
