Ah well, I tried. Enjoy throwing your wallet at it. ;)
Well there are design factors that waste oil boilers use in general that typical fuel oil boilers don't, so i'm not out on a limb here. Flames on surfaces no matter what they're made of creates smoke and durability issues. Been there done that. Thanks for the effort though.

I am at the Salvage Garage today, they are taking things for the Fall auction, so I am working on getting some of the stuff over there. Kind of a mess and I am tripping over things to get to what has to go. So far I have had to move a few forklifts, I am sure the one I need is going to have a dead battery, being electric, that will be a slight issue. ;)

Hopefully I can at least get a few more things over there today. My shoulder is feeling decent and my back hasn't been complaining, my brain on the other hand, well...

Electric forklift is charging, had enough to barely move a few things, will need more to get at what I need for the auction, so I am working on other things while I give it a bit of a charge. Hopefully a couple hours will at least allow me to get the shelf down from the rack, there isn't another forklift that can do this. :(

Ran into a couple problems, the Hyster forklift has a starter problem, again. I feel like it doesn't matter what you buy these days, none of it has any quality control. The new starter that I installed has a bad solenoid, of course it isn't new now, but it has been hardly used. I got lucky that it started the last time, if it hadn't started, I would have been in a world of hurt, it was blocking everything. I am going to see about warranty, but my guess is that they won't do anything for me. Worst part is that I "upgraded" to the high torque gear reduction starter. Oh well, it is out of the way now and I am about to head out to drop off what I did gather.

Starter was bought almost two years ago, at least I have the receipt. I am going to cross the part number and see if I can find a different brand.

Got the second load dropped off, not large loads, just basics, but getting rid of some stuff is better than tripping over it. I am going to get a few more things from the Hill and then I have some tougher things to get from the Salvage Garage tomorrow.

My back is fairly sore, but not hurting, so I took things easier this evening. Tomorrow looks like an early day for me, have someone driving two hours to meet me at 7 AM for a marketplace sale. Hopefully that goes through, it would make some room and almost pay for a new starter. Easy come, easy go, right??

Sold, loaded, and gone! Now I have to gather up a few more easy things for the auction, then I have to pull wheels off Benson to send to the auction as well. They will fit a skid steer and they look almost new, should be a good auction item for me.

Today is a little bit of an early day, the local Mexican place has Giant Tacos (2 pounds) starting today and my GF and I are getting dinner there.

What I thought was going to be easy is going to turn into a mess quick. The rims on Benson’s wheels have a larger bolt hole than standard 8 lug truck rims. So basically if I want to sell the tires and rims, I have to get rid of the rest of it fairly quickly or it sits on blocks for eternity. I was planning on scrapping the carcass, but I had intended it to roll around still. I have to do some thinking on this before I make a mess I can’t undo.

Even my makeshift plan is not going to work, the center hole for the hub is too small on the standard truck rims, so even if I drill out the holes I still have to torch the centers out and I don’t have enough rims that I want to ruin by doing that. :(

I guess I could just use two wheels and move it from the other end like a wheel barrow. Yup, going to try that.

Hi Strouty,
Great to have you back and posting pics of forklifts!
What's the plan for the orange forklift? Seems like maybe scrap? What is left that you need to remove from it before it can go to scrap?

Good luck with your plan for the day, hopefully it goes well for you!

I am kind of glad to be posting again as well, it has been a not so great summer.

Benson (orange forklift) has an interesting transmission that will be saved, it is a 4 speed manual with a torque converter instead of a clutch. Also the transfer case is an industrial one, so that will be saved, the forks were sold already, the mast is going to become project steel and there are some big counterweight chunks that I will save. So there is a chunk of work to do before the actual carcass can go to scrap. I am hopeful that the diesel engine parts (the ones not destroyed) will also be money makers, but who knows, all I can do is try and sell things. I would really like to build my own rough terrain forklift at some point, but I think I am going to be far better off buying a tele handler.

yeah, a telehandler would likely be a very good fit for much of the stuff you do. I've run a Skytrac for some various applications with work, and they are a good all-around tool for lifting & moving stuff.
The crab walk feature, opposite steering, and rear steer only, all switchable from the cab really help with maneuvering.
I wish I could justify a skytrac for the acreage, but I just wouldn't use it frequently enough to justify it. So the old clark yardlift forklift and bobcat skidsteer generally are enough to get the job done both for acreage work and the side business. Lean-to addition I did this summer, built by myself and working alone.

I will probably start looking for something next summer, definitely a useful tool.

The first part is done, now I have to dig out the pressure washer and clean the wheels off before bringing them to the auction. Worst part is that if I had FORD rims, they probably would have fit with no modifications. I seem to remember the center hole being larger on them. Oh well, just two junk wheels that are out of the way for now. I put a block of wood under the rear and it seems to be fine for the time being. I put it towards the back, out of the way for now. Mine is long gone, I ordered one for tomorrow or the next day. They are offering them all month, three of them, plus my GF had a draft beer, under $60. I thought for sure they would ding the price, but it isn't much different than last year.

Subway has new coupons and the offers are substantially worse than last month.

I found another junk 8 lug wheel and tire that seems to hold air, one more and I can get Benson rolling again.

Last of my auction items are going over today, then I have to head to one of our towers to discuss power distribution for a potential new customer. They want to do some branch line of my existing input from the pole and I am not so sure I want them to do that. I think it is all about them wanting to pay for only what they use in electricity, but I had already told them I would include it in the price. Not really sure how branching off and using there own panel would be any different than using part of my current panel? Hopefully it will be sorted out in the next couple days.

After that I am going back to the Salvage Garage, I would like to do a bit of cleaning, if I can tear down a few things I won't have to put as much stuff back inside (had to take a bunch of stuff outside to get to the auction items). I am not sure how all this is going to go, my back was pretty sore last night, feels better right now, but I don't want it to feel like it did last night again.

Local place, they have a couple restaurants across Maine and New Hampshire, Margaritas.

I got may delayed this afternoon, so I am home, never made it to the SG this afternoon, but I got a lot resolved with the new potential customer at the tower site. Tomorrow I am going to start at the Hill, then head over to the SG, still need to get a couple rain suits for the pressure washing, not going to get soaked again.

They want a subpanel off your main panel? How many circuits do they need? be easier to run one large circuit to a sub if they need a bunch of circuits, be cleaner also.

Right now we have a 200 amp underground service, it has a secondary meter tap off it, they wanted to tap it again so there would be a 200 amp panel, and two 100 amp panels, each would have their own meter. I didn't like the idea of it because there is the potential to be overloaded. My electrician said that this is common with apartment buildings and that they will have a single 200 amp service from the pole tapped 5 times with 100 amp setups all with their own meter. I am making these guys run new conduit (ours is too small) and set a 400 amp service, then we can split that three ways so there is no issue now or in the future. It isn't going to cost me anything and they won't be able to take it when they leave.

They're building one in Latham, NY.
