Some are a bit rough around the edges, three are a bit lighter duty, and two are like brand new. I am pleased with them and they will be super helpful as I have tons of stuff that isn't on a pallet or if it is, the pallet is wood and has started to go back to its maker...

Don't you love picking up a wood pallet and the bottom half stays on the ground? Almost as bad as these things when they get soaked and come apart, or you load too much **** in it and blow the sides out.

Those pallets were a steal, you are lucky around here to get 5 used ones for that price! And yes even the heavy duty wooden pallets don't last very long outside in our climes.
I can usually find them for about $20 each, but haven’t had any that were close by lately, these were within 20 minutes of the Salvage Garage and essentially 15 minutes out of the way, between driving and loading, I have less than an hour invested. They sell new for insane money, I was super happy to get them for sure.
This morning is a bit chilly and the thermostat issue in the 3500 is really showing, just like warm air and I am wearing gloves and a neck warmer inside the truck. Maybe I can fix it this week, also came out to a puddle of diesel under the tank, but I fueled up last night and my driveway is at an angle, so it could have been that. No drips that I saw, but the tank was wet from the top down.

Winter is slowly going away, today is much colder with a bunch of wind. I now have ten things half done, just keep running into parts walls (have to order things). I think next week will be a bit better as a lot of the stuff I was waiting on showed up yesterday. Fingers crossed I can get to some actual finished projects.

Yeah, it feels cold and windy in York today. It's supposed to warm up next week!! That will be good for outdoor projects.

I am trying to prep things for tomorrow, looks like next week is going to be warm almost all week, between that and the time shift I should be fairly productive. Clark is going to get put back together, but without the fuel tank, temporarily using a boat style tank. I have to clean out the one that needs to be welded and the one that is being sacrificed. It will be a process and then once done it is getting sealed with an epoxy coating. As long as Clark is usable, that is really all that matters. I also have to mess with two radiators, but for now I just need it out of the shop, it is in the way as I wasn’t expecting to do as much as we did. I can’t complain, well, of course I can, but it is only for the short term, everything that is being done will benefit me long term.

With Clark.... is it even worth trying to fix the fuel tanks? that sounds like a lot of work, and probably not the safest work either. The nice thing with a boat tank is the flexibility, and probably less fuel to go bad over time. Perhaps the OEM fuel tank can be a project for future self "when you have more time"!

The fuel tank is worth fixing, it will go through more than a boat tank in a day, so having 25 gallons on board is the best way to go. I also run ethanol free, so it can sit a lot longer without causing troubles. As for being productive, I am running into some parts availability issues that I didn't expect. I may have to half *** fix the shaft that drives the hydraulic pump on Clark, it comes off the crankshaft and the place that I get my driveling parts not only didn't have the u-joints, but they can't get them, on top of that the yokes are worn enough that the u-joint caps are able to spin inside the mount. I have a different style setup from the parts forklift, but I am not sure it will work, have to pull off the crank pulley and see if they are the same diameter, the flange is a different bolt pattern.

Isn't that usually a seal problem, not technically a filter problem?
The issue is that this is an old system and it has a suction line cartridge filter (that is missing) and no one does that anymore, all hydraulics are filtered on the return side and have been for years. I think I am going to just retrofit this and be done with it, the filter we are guessing will fit is about $200 and there is no guarantee it will even work.
Then there is the driveshaft that is for the front pump, not one thing is available in the size that "fits", so I have to remake that to modern style and size. At least moving forward things will be easier, just not a quick fix by any means.

Looks like we have a plan to redo most of the hydraulics on Clark, I am getting the filter head tomorrow so we can start laying out all the lines and see what has to be modified. Been cleaning things as we go and have made a lot of space, going to keep at it and hopefully by this weekend there will be a functional space.

We did not do anything yesterday on Clark or any of the other projects, but we made a dent in the shop itself. Going to concentrate on that more than the projects. We are working through the mess and managing things as we go, the other day we pulled out the tig welder and set it up to make sure everything works and it does. That led to deciding to shift a few things around so that we have a nice area for the welder right next to my big bench, we created that space yesterday. I think the next two days will make the shop a lot more cohesive, it is a bit of a struggle as Clark is the forklift we really need to move stuff around out back, but short term pain for a long term goal seems to have a better payout.

Sounds like you're constantly making headway now, even if waiting on parts has had you working on different pieces of your timeline.
Yes and no, I am extending my stay until December 2026 as the deadline. There is talk of creating an irrevocable trust with me as beneficiary, I want to see how that shakes out. This gives me time to do all my repairs and get my **** together before having to move off the Hill, Dad understands that I will leave if we don't get this figured out. If the trust is created, I would stay, if it isn't wrapped up by March of 2026, I would just move out completely by December of that year. The plan is to only do things that are related to cleaning up the Hill and moving to the Salvage Garage, everything has to overlap. There will be no work done on the house or shop at the Hill, just dismantling Burbs and other trucks. I have spent a lot of time discussing things with my Brother and my GF and we all think this is the best move, 60% of me wants to stay at the Hill and 40% wants to leave for good. I know this is not news anyone wants to hear, but it is my life and I have to do what fits for me.

It is tough, because a lot of people are giving me great advice and I know what should have been done, but the problem is that it should have been done 5 years ago and now I am tangled into things. I wish it was easy, I could make it quicker, but it would involve creating more problems than I would like to. I sat down with Dad and told him that I can't take the yoyo anymore, not that it will fix anything, but he understands that we need to do something stable and agrees that his issues are only going to get worse. We are going to start to sell some towers, he has gotten away from trying to develop the land and we are putting that into tree growth to reduce the taxes, it also makes it expensive and a pain to take back out, so that should discourage him from trying to "develop" things in the future as well. I have explained to him that if we can get his liabilities cut back, remove some of the overhead by thinning the herd, all his expenses should go down.

Yes, you need to do what suits you. I think the main take away here is that you both came to the table and had a good discussion and were able to develop a framework of a path forward.
I think this is good, from my perspective, (with no skin in the game).
I think the upside (in addition to a long term plan) is that this upheaval has given you some focus on things that need to be done.

Definitely have been focusing on the blurry path forward...
This week is going to look like a bit of a backslide, but in reality it will be three steps back to get twenty steps forward in the coming weeks. I just hope I can keep my help for a few weeks, just having someone helping has motivated me a lot.

This really seems like a productive step forward for you.
You'll probably want to continue your efforts to thin things at the Hill.... have you noticed any correlation between the amount of vehicles/stuff at the Hill and when he gets all in your face being difficult? I wonder if that somehow triggers him?
Regardless, some more time to move things around will be good so you can be more deliberate with your moves, and have backup plans if needed.

Glad you're finally getting some traction in your life and the stress will eventually be lower. Nobody needs that in their life.
He definitely got triggered by the school bus, but honestly he will try and power trip me anytime he feels like he lost power anywhere in his life.
I am still not sure about the Hill, 40% of me says walk regardless, but I have always wanted to be at the Hill. However it shakes out is fine for me at this point, the extension should be timed well and I know what has to be done to get ready for the possibility of moving next year. Having that extra time should make things less chaotic, especially since I am cleaning up at the Salvage Garage.

Points to ponder. How many times have you heard this song sung by your Dad? How much stress does it add to your life when he starts singing it again? If he lives another 20 or 30 years, considering his track record, will you be able to handle all that stress? If you can handle it, ride it out. If not........ Because you KNOW he's not going to change, ever. To think otherwise is to ignore the past that has been extremely consistent.
