I ordered my new "used" camera, kind of excited about it, should be delivered tomorrow. Going to run some errands, then head to the shop, temps are much better today and I have help for this afternoon. I left the shop at a bit after 10PM, then came home, hung out with my GF for a bit, watched a TV show, then went to bed around 12AM. I was wide awake at 5AM, got out of bed at 5:30 and have been busy and not tired all morning. I would love to be able to do this everyday. I may try staying late at the shop the rest of this week, who knows it may be my sweet spot?

I opened up all my outside storage boxes, well all the big ones, and I kind of digested each one for a while, man I have a lot of stuff (read as junk). I am in purge mode right now, but I went inside and started in my overhead storage area, I took out a bunch of stuff, a few things are going on ebay, the rest is dumpster bound. It should allow me to move some other things up there that are in the way of progress. I figure since I bought a new camera, I need to make room for it, right? Anyways, I may even post some pictures of the storage boxes, just so Kev can get all mad at me. ;)

Now I wish I had them empty the dumpster this week, I will call tomorrow, but it may be too late for this week. I am headed outside to put a battery in the crane, might as well get the battery out of the shop and make the truck start without a boost, kills two birds with one stone. I also need to start Bev, I will introduce you guys to her, some of you all ready know who she is, but she has some things that need to be removed as well, I figure I will be here early tomorrow, I don't have any appointments or errands to run, so it will be a shop day for sure.

So now that I have taken the pictures, I really feel like a hoarder. I am not going to describe them, you guys will get the point.

nah doesn't really look that bad, theres not actually all that much in each, its not really piled up, lots of empty space on the shelves etc.

I have purged a lot over the last two years, the problem I am having now is that most of the stuff is the "good" stuff and it is much harder for me to get rid of it.

I know that sounds like an excuse, but anyone that has visited and seen things in person can vouch for that. Don't get me wrong, there definitely are things that can and will go, it is just tough to toss something that is useful when I actually have storage space. So I have to balance things, I try and keep it so you can walk down the aisles, but that is harder to do than it sounds like.

I really want to chop seats out of the bus, that may be the best place to put the lista drawers, then I can move a couple crates inside and they will be really out of the weather. I wish I could have done all this cleaning back in March, I would have brought a ton more stuff to the spring auction. I now have to wait until the fall auction to easily unload stuff, since I don't live at my shop, I don't really like to do the craigslist thing for big stuff, then they have to come and see it. Once I get a camera system installed, I would feel better about it, at least I could catch someone if they did come back.

Can you assign one area, preferably one of the outside storages, to be the designated auction category? That would allow you to get things out of the way AND all organized to bring to the fall auction at the same time. Maybe borrow that trailer back from your dad and just start loading it, then you wouldn't even have to reload it all come auction time.

We don't really have a trailer that could be dedicated to that, but I did do that last year for the spring auction, except I ran out of space and things got spread out, so I missed a bunch of stuff. I am thinking if I start with a few shelves in the moving trailer, then the ebay stuff can go in the shop, as it is more sensitive to the heat. Ultimately I want a dedicated box for auction stuff. I get free things from people all the time, toss them in the auction for some extra money. Last auction, the free stuff brought a few hundred dollars. I have to look into more conex boxes, they are by far the best way to go. The 40' high cubes are only a few hundred more than a 20' one. I can't move them super easy, but I can move one end at a time with my crane, last time I had help and using the crane and the excavator, we moved my current one easy enough while it was full. Unloaded, I can move one easy as pie.

The military made these attachments to move them, that I would love to find or make some, then you can move a loaded conex with minimal effort and the stuff won't get dumped all over the place.

Unrelated question, do you know of any place that can pick up a loaded 20' and deliver it 400 miles away? There was a thread a while back about it but I lost it. Never heard whether it's possible to load a loaded 20' box onto a roll back?

Two issues, they need to tilt the box a lot to get it on the ramp, stuff dumps everywhere, then the weight is the next issue, depends on how heavy it is. When they move them around a yard loaded, they are using a monstrous forklift with a special framework to grab them horizontal. So either you would need a big crane to load and unload from a trailer or risk having all the stuff at one end of the conex. Even when I picked mine up a couple feet at one end, stuff was definitely moving. A 20' would be an even steeper angle.

I'll admit I was looking for the popcorn emoji when you announced incoming listas with absolutely no outgo plan.
I could have hollered about the bus filling up without the seats going out, but my glass house might have shattered from the rocks rebounding....

It's more about been there, done that.
Remember "now the hard part begins"? The second go around is harder because it all has value, whether as scrap price or cl/eBay. I don't think the outdoor storage really got sorted much over the last 3 years though.

The main thing is a shop is not a warehouse. I'd hate to see a thread titled "something unclicked".

The outside storage has never been a big concern, I keep important things in the conex so the mice can't do any damage, then the other boxes get stuff that can't get hurt by rodents or stuff in boxes so they can't get in. Honestly, I have had very few issues that way, but things are much more organized inside the outdoor boxes than you think. Regardless I know that there is too much stuff in them and that is half the battle.

As for the Lista stacking, the storage wall components are much different than the actual cabinets, I had to remove parts and cut steel, then beat things into submission to get the fixed shelves in. I am glad I only did two fixed shelves.

It would be interesting to see how many times the word "stuff" has been mentioned so far in this thread.

Great stuff here!

What stuff?

I might have missed you saying this, but will the Lista "wall" be tool storage or hardware?

Primarily for hardware/stock, but there will be some tool storage. My primary tool storage is my Snap On box, while the Listas are great and rugged, they feel like opening a file cabinet.

While the triple is a "cool" idea, I think it will have to wait, I have enough to do today without worrying about standing on a ladder, I am a bit scared of heights. ;)

Much nicer outside today, going to make the best of it for sure. I all ready reworked the double stack a bit, then I loaded up one of the temporary cabinets that will go outside for future use. I am probably going to band them to the pallets, it seems like it will be the safest way to handle them, plus it should keep the drawers form opening up while I shuffle them around.

Is all the hardware specialized stuff? It seems like for anything not-specialized or used frequently it'd be easier to go to Home Depot or order it online.

You mentioned a few pages back you're self-employed and make money in multiple ways. Do you just try to make a certain amount a year and everything else is just extra or you take some time off when you hit that goal or what?

Stick the palletized ones on top of the stack if it's stable.

I reinstalled the drawers in the three spare cabinets that still had all the bracing. I think the rest of the drawers will be stored in the conex on the top shelf, there are a lot fewer of them now.

The hardware varies, some special, some old, some new, some plain. I also have lots of supplies, and other things for various vehicles. Some stuff would be fairly easy to get, other things are not easy to find or just really expensive. Once I get a chance to start actually sorting things again, I will post more pictures. All these drawers will make the stuff easier to get to and it won't all be crammed into small bins that collect dust.
