I think you made the right move keeping the fab table inside. As much as I use mine, I can't imagine having to get the forklift every time I needed to weld something.

I'm sure you posted this somewhere, but what are the dimensions of your shop? I'm looking to build at some point and quit renting, and it's nice to know what can fit in various space configurations. You and I are more alike than I'd like to admit, so I figger if you've made it work than it probably will for me.

The shop is 30 by 60 overall, but the stockroom and office take up 15 by 30 of that. The real problem I have is the height, it is only 12' 6" and that is not tall enough for me. My plan is to reconfigure things, the trusses will have to be reworked, but by doing this, I will end up with a 30' wide by 45' deep bay. It will end up with about a 16' ceiling, that will allow me to install my lift and bridge crane. I am super excited about all that! The first order of business is to completely move the stockroom to the other end of the shop, but I can't do that until I know what to order for my List Storage wall, then have the spare funds to order it all. I think that won't be until early 2018. I have been patient for a while and now I have started the process of figuring things out. I am pretty sure the stockroom can be a bit smaller and still do everything that I need it to.

how have I missed this thread....? Awesome loving all the cabinets, equipment and progress your making I would love to have a shop problem like yours.

Glad you stopped in, sometimes I forget how lucky I am to have the space, the stuff in the space is reality the problem. As you can see, I am working on that.

Boiler has part of the answer, second part is that my office will be located above it, so I need a good base for that. I think even if I never built the office above, I would still want a room, it is so messy when grinding and cutting things, on top of that all the dirt from the driveway doesn’t help.

I'm really starting to believe that telling people what you're going to do hurts more than helps. I keep saying I'm going to do something and I haven't acted on it. Time to shut up and start doing I suppose.

Yup, that is definitely what happens.

Swapped the one pump for another pump on the air compressor. Found the replacement pump had a cracked aluminum casting, so I had to pull part of another one off and swap them. Of course once we got it all operational, it makes about 50 PSI and then clacks. Seems to be from the upper end, but it is really hard to pin point any noise. I think I will try the last pump, but it will take a bit more time, as I have to pull off and swap the big flywheel. Not sure I have the right sized puller, but I am going to give it a try.

So the last pump was absolutely the worst. It was knocking as soon as I started it up. I am going to tear into that one as my guide for one of the good ones. I actually think the better ones may just be stuck valves in the upper end, they both sounded really good when running, but they didn't create the pressure right or leaked like crazy. I hope to start on that Friday. Unfortunately tomorrow I have training for erosion control all day, so not one ounce of shop time. I do feel good that at least I did what I set out to do, even though the results were less than what I hoped for.

I also checked out the auction that Orion mentioned, they will be taking consignments on the 30th, so I will be bringing stuff up there as well. I will have to borrow a trailer, but that is not that big of a deal, will be nice to unload a few more pounds of stuff and not have to wait until next spring to deal with it.

Hey, I have been really good. The only new thing in the shop in the last two weeks was the cordless mag drill, I think there were a couple other small things, but I sold one hammer, my old mag drill, have five more hammers to trade in to the Snap On driver, I brought three full loads to the auction, two decent sized loads to goodwill, and a dumpster full of trash.

LOL.

I will most likely be buying some more parts for the compressor project, hopefully that can be working in the next week. I did plan on buying something else, but now I can’t remember. I also saw a nice looking job box at a sale near my shop, may have to take a peek at that too.

I forgot about the enerpac cutter head. I am sure there are more things, but I have definitely taken away more than I brought in, most likely around 50 to 1 right now.

I could not wait any longer, had to check auction total for my sales. After fees it looks like just about $3,500. I had a low number in my mind of $1,500 so this is a great surprise!

Thats great!! Now you don't have to worry about the $$ to fix the compressor.

I was thinking about you yesterday as I was driving and how announcing your intentions may keep you from actually following through. Since I started my YouTube channel I find myself driven to complete things so that I can post the video, works real well for me.

I am torn, I like talking about things, hopefully the open and usable space will be enough to spark completion regardless of what I announce or keep to myself.

Don't laugh, but I think I just bought another Lista cabinet.

Ok, I had the “over” on the bet that he would get more Listas..... who owes me money??

You knew we would have to give you a little grief on that one! [emoji51]

Yeah, I know. I had planned on buying just a few of the slide out trays, then this cabinet popped up and it has eight slide out trays, is brand new and has doors on it. It is similar to one of my other cabinets in height, the doors will be nice for sure as this cabinet will stay out in the shop, should keep everything clean. Price was about what it would cost for four of the slide out trays, so I figure it is worth the investment even though I am a bit early. We are not sure if the new slides will fit the old cabinets, but either way it will get used. I am also going to have them draw up some renditions for the stockroom. That will get me excited.

You gotta love deals like that though! I would have done the same thing.

I'm still scratching my head and trying to figure out how I can rearrange my garage to squeeze in a 42"-46" wide tool cabinet. I know the solution is to just build on an enclosed lean-to on the back side of my garage for all the yard tools and lawn equipment, but I just don't want to even spend the money on that right now... but I am seriously looking into what it would take. I think the few hundred dollars it would cost to float a floor over yard barn pilings and attach it to the side of the garage would more than pay me back in reduced stress and happiness in my garage once it's finished, even if it's only for 1-3 years before we can move. And it won't add resale value per say, but it would allow the house to sell much faster since the garage could then be used to actually park 2 smaller cars or SUVs inside.

Do you regularly run across these Lista cabinets? The one's you had at the sale looked very tough and the ss top seemed very workbenchworthy (sturdy)

Those cabinets found me, it was all my Snap On driver's fault, honestly.

I look from time to time, but this was one of those of chance moments. I was actually looking for the phone number of the local Lista distributor and I saw one of the specials they had. I talked to them about it and made the deal. They have a few upper cabinets that I am toying with buying as well. ;)

The funny part is the Lista cabinets did almost nothing at the auction, it looks like the best one did $130. Glad I did not send them all. Still not sure if the new trays will fit the old cabinets, that would kind of ****, but I feel like they will. Even if I need to do a bit of modification, I am fine with that. What I want for now is to have the two in the shop and the one int he conex to have slide out bottom trays. Then the new cabinet will hold a bunch of other equipment that doesn't store well in a drawer.

The last couple days, I have been fighting some serious neck pain. I think it stems from the training I went to on Thursday. I sat in a folding metal chair with my neck turned to a funny angle for about 8 hours, on top of the almost 4 hours of driving I did to get there and back. I went to the chiropractor Friday, and it was pretty sore afterwards, so I took it easy and did some paperwork. Today it hurts, but on the other side of my neck, I just slapped a thermacare heating thing on it, took some advil and will be attempting to make some forward progress. Hopefully I can get through this ASAP, otherwise it will become a real pain in the neck,.,......... wait, oh, never mind.

been sifting and sorting through the cabinets and drawers, I am going to be able to eliminate a bunch of things, then consolidate more. I will also move a bunch to the conex.

Unfortunately it looks like the air compressor will be waiting until next week, my neck is still a bit out of control and when I reach out with my left arm, it pulls on everything funny and hurts more.

I got 8 drawers emptied and a couple more half emptied. I think that is better than nothing. Also think I may have found a lead on tires for the forklift that will work with the rims I have. The guy is going to send me more info tomorrow. I would like to think that they will work, but I am not sure yet. I am off to have dinner with the GF. Tomorrow I may pick up some other tires as well, but those are free.

Scratch the possible forklift tires, it took me a while to realize that they didn't have a unique tread pattern, but they were really worn right to the wear bars. So they are kind of like a racing slick with tread on the upper sidewall. I am sure I am going to get an ear full, seller thinks that they have at least half tread. Oh well, at least I didn't drive somewhere only to find this out.

I picked up the free tires today, they are in better shape than expected. I also bought a decent rim from him, I think I am done messing with the forklift rim/tire situation. I am just going to mount the tires myself. That is going to be a project for another day, especially since I don't have a working air compressor yet. Back to the organizing/sorting/trashing!

You just reminded me I need to pull a screw from and patch one of my truck tyres from a couple weeks back - I have one of the plug repair kits to try out.

****** with the compressor motors not bearing fruit. You must be itching to get that puppy operational.

I think I will be able to get one working in the next week or so. I don't want to rush things.......... ;)

I don't want to hang out at the shop too long today, tomorrow will be a long day for me, so I want to take it a bit on the easy side tonight. I am going to try and flatten some of the magnetic tape for my labels, Pines says it is much better to do it that way.

I don't want to unload the new tires, but I may do it anyways. Those suckers must weigh 150 pounds each.

I do that, but it will only slowly inflate a tire or allow one lug nut at a time, there just isn't the volume needed to run tools. I have a small portable compressor that is fine if you need to inflate car tires, but it won't do much more than that or air nailers.

I was wrong about the tires, looks like they are over 200 pounds each. NowI know why they felt so heavy.
