Tried to do something basic with the wife's iphone today: download a PDF to a PC via the usb cable. Nope.
I hate my Samsung for Knox and Kies, and now I just plain hate Apple with all my heart. It's 2018 and nothing plays nice yet, what a joke.

Apple always has to eff with stuff, they say it makes things better, but it really only helps them make more money. I have been buying used Macs for the last couple years and I am not interested in any of the new offerings, the new computers have taken too many steps forward too soon. I am all for USB C, but if the phone doesn’t use it, why bother. Who wants to have to carry around adapters and dongles to make most devices work. I remember when I used to have a bunch of PCMCIA card adapters and even then, there were still other ports on the computers. The old MagSafe connectors are great, why do away with them as well?

Rant over.

Tomorrow will be actual work inside the shop. I am going to work on the glow plugs for the black burb. I have to change out the ABS modulator, so I figured why not change the inner fender, then I thought it would be a good time to do the glow plugs while all that is out of the way. I may even remove the fender too, will have to see how bad the wiring harness is.

I guess I should have kept my mouth shut, things blew up and I now have to meet another engineer at one of our existing sites tomorrow, so no work will get done inside or outside the shop.

I had lunch with DLCwent and Tinker Rick today, good food and good company! Now if I can just figure a way to get them down to my shop for a tour.......

I did find out my tires and rims for the forklift are available to be picked up tomorrow, but they call the location “PORTLAND”, except it is 45 minutes north of there in Lewiston. Another couple hours wasted driving. At least I will have them to start figuring things out.

Yeah, but at least it's summertime so the drive is nice and the weather won't be an issue.

I love Maine in the summer. I had a couple of accounts I called on near the coast around Portland when I lived out in MA in '97-'98.

I hear you there. Today the high was 88deg with a heat index of 96. Saturday and Sunday the temp will be 92/93 but the heat index will be 104.

Checking the extended forecast was just depressing. No break in the heat and humidity all the way into July. The heat index will be 98 or hotter every day through June.

I guess we are going to have to get used to it. I am definitely putting the window AC units in at the house. The shop has a through wall unit and it has been on for a few weeks to help with the humidity. Between that and the ceiling fans, the floor hardly ever gets damp.

So, since the forklift is getting new shoes, that means I can sell the old ones...... in my research of prices on used tires, like the ones I have to sell, I found a pair of MRAP front axles for sale and at a great price. So looks like I am going to buy them. Now I need to thin out my axle collection to make room for these.

Honestly, I don't know, I have a couple ideas though, the Ford F700 is one of them. They are serious axles and I have wanted a set for a few years now. If I can't use them, they are worth more than the money and effort I will have into them. I really want to use them though. They are more like normal axles instead of the top loader style the military usually uses. They have air disc brakes and air lockers, should be a nice combination for a fun/work truck.

Most of the trucks I run have bigger flotation tires on the front, so it could end up being that I make two trucks into all wheel drive. That might be the better option anyways.

This weekend’s project is here, hopefully it will be a relatively painless project, but I really won’t know until I get the old wheels off.

From what I can tell so far, it actually looks like the wheel may work without any major modifications, fingers crossed!

I got all of them on, looks like it will work with almost no mods. I just have to chamfer the bolt holes so the lug nuts will center the wheels on the two front ones, I had to flip them backwards to clear things. I think it looks much better now.

I also got to use my 3/4” drive Milwaukee impact, it has got some power, I can’t wait until they release the 1” drive version!

It definitely needs to be painted, I am also going to replace all the glass, and I need to add lights. Most importantly, I need to buy some new forks, the ones on it are just too short for me. Also need to add a counterweight, but I want to find out how much weight adding gel to the tires would be. So many things to do!

I would be curious as to what type of gel you use in the tires when you get to that point as I filled my tractor tires with Propylene Glycol and while it works fine for ballast without affecting the ride a little more weight would keep me from having to load my box blade to add some ballast when using the forks to reach my maximum lifting weight.

I don’t know much about it yet myself, I will update when I find out more. My brother told me that they don’t like to fill older tires? Not sure what the issue would be, but I will do some research.

Love the progress strouty. The tires look great and appropriate on that forklift.

Thanks guys, funny how something relatively simple can change your entire outlook on a project, I am now really interested in finishing up the forklift.

I also think it is time to put Bev on the road again, I need a truck that is more open than a suburban and there is no way I want to buy another truck right now. Anyways, I am getting motivated to do a few things, just need to make sure I don’t trip myself up too badly.

Damn, those tires made the fork lift pop, What a difference. the pic of one of each tire shows the difference.
Congrats on having the space and knowing where your stuff was to do the project. Rich

Now if I could just make it back to the shop, maybe I could do something. Spent the morning moving furniture at the house, then went to get my Brother’s dump trailer so I can get rid of all the olde file cabinets from the office. Then I decided to not only load what was already there, but to get all the old cabinets out of the office. I loaded the trailer too, only took 6 hours. Now I am home, I want to go to bed, but I am hungry, so I need to eat something and I want to take a shower, I am so dirty from all the old file cabinets and so sweaty from the crazy humidity.

Yup, got everything in one load too. Not posting what my plan is, because every time I post it, something changes. I will update after I get something done.

As a virgin butcher block gluer back togetherer, I would say do not use biscuits to help join it. The wood had a couple funky spots and I couldn’t line things up due to the biscuits, so now I will need to sand the top because of a high spot on one end. I was trying to leave the character of the wood, but looks like it will need to create its own charm over the years. There are a few deep marks that will survive. I had to buy new glue as my stuff looked like tapioca padding and I didn’t want to chance having an issue with that. I should have bought a roller or silicon brush. I guess I will have to invest in some more tools next time. The new clamps are great, hopefully I didn’t squeeze all the glue out, guess I will know tomorrow evening.

I figured it out as soon as I started assembling things. If I had sanded the top first it probably would have been fine, but I was trying to not sand it at all. Live and learn, it isn’t going in my kitchen.

I am also very glad I bought 6 clamps, I could have used a couple more, but I will wait until I have another top to glue then buy some more. I saw another style clamp that was pretty cool, but I figure I could make some myself. I will have to take a picture of it next time I am at the store.

Your only a virgin a few times. Enough time passes... you are a virgin again.

It looks awesome. I would love those clamps.

I'm stuck with 50 yr old pipe clamps. I have a few HF bar clamps in various lengths. Reinforced them with ripped wood that I epoxied in the U channel... Got the tip from YouTube.

Got about 20 or so short bessy F clamps

Oh and several buckets of copper threaded C clamps...
