Sitting here, looking at my mess........... everywhere I look is another partial project! I went to the conex to see if I could move a few things out there to get them out from under my feet, low and behold, more projects, almost everything I saw was a part waiting for me to get to it, I am not even joking. The worst part is that when I see the piece, part, item, or whatdafuk, it is like flipping to a bookmarked page and the entire project floods my head. I swear I was going to pass out from unfinished project overload. On the way to the shop this morning I bought parts......... for two more projects. I don’t know if I am going to make it.

We need help.

For me it is paralyzing, debilitating, downright painful.

I am not sure I want to be here, usually the distraction is welcome, today is not like that.

I am going to stick it out for an hour and see how I feel, I know I normally ***** about it, but today is really hitting me hard.

I understand the project overload problem I suffer from that as well. I lately have been trying to either sell or give away things I know I will never get to.

As far as your lathe toolholder, I'm a fan of using the biggest post the lathe will allow. That lets you run bigger toolbits and have more rigidity.

The downside is cost. If you have a bunch of BXA stuff, run it until you find a good deal on CXA stuff.

At this point I only have the tool post, I have borrowed some tooling from my Dad. My post is an aloris, so used it is still worth some money. I am not worried about having to spend money to upgrade, I need to figure out if the CXA will actually work. It might fit, but then not allow me to hit the center with the larger tooling.

Been a bit productive and slightly motivated. I guess sometimes all it takes is a friendly text message from a fellow GJ member. Thanks 86!

Tomorrow I get to meet another GJ member, he is delivery my MRAP axles. Not even sure I mentioned those yet. LOL, just another project.

Been looking at nothing but tiny tasks, kind of like next steps, just doing mindless tasks, but they are showing some improvement in the shop and my mind. I did take a 5 hour energy and that always helps, just hate to use them, always dump them in a water bottle to dilute and spread out the effect. I don’t really drink soda and I definitely don’t drink coffee, not sure where these fall on that scale, but I don’t like the feeling of drinking one like a shot.

Kind of winding things down. I have an area of old insulation I want to remove and I am considering doing it right before I leave, then I can take a shower as soon as I get home. Still undecided on it. I hate fiberglass insulation. It is directly above where the RC area is going, kinda want to deal with it sooner rather than later.

Thanks Dr Clyde, I think we might have to start a labor swap GJ deal, people visit each other for a week helping out. It could be a fun thing! Or maybe we start a GJ commune, problem is figuring out who to let in!

I have cleared everything out so I can take the insulation down, I guess I will bite the bullet and get it done tonight. Need to unload and move some things out back so I am not all itchy while I am being bitchy.

I will have to start a group, I think it could be very beneficial to people, of course meeting IRL could be bad, as we may hate each other!

Itchy and gross now.

Now I am thinking about removing the entire wall and using some pallet racking with a partition underneath to split the space plus allow overhead storage. What I should do is just............... nothing.

Looking in the pictures I love your shop ! The cabinets are cool, as are the forklifts and assorted vehicles. I especially like the suburbans. I had one a while back, and I really miss it. It hauls plywood, demo stuff to the dump, and then can turn around and haul 6-8 people in comfort. 40 gallon gas tank was nice on long trips.

After my experiences with pallet rack, I'm a believer. Go for it.

I am not sure I can swing the time involved right now. :(

Thanks, the burbs are fun, but I have too many of them!

keep working at it, it will get better.

That is the plan.

At this rate, it may actually happen in July!

Had to do some laundry, dryer must have quit part way through the cycle. No turn on no more. Breaker popped, switch back, start dryer, 5 minutes later, no worky. Go downstairs to panel, breaker is tripped, switch off to on one more time, breaker is on with bright orange stripe in window. Change breaker, dryer worky, no turn offy. I need to go to sleep.

Tomorrow is going to be a long one, I have a town council meeting to attend as well as a full day.

Most of the stuff that I am getting rid of is just parts, but they are the hard to find ones. <snip>

b5f2bdd5310c4a3f732837ad25951841.jpg

I use the same shelving and totes method! I love those shelves. Best bang for the buck I've found. I'm going to be getting a couple of 24" or 30" deep racks and use the 4' beams to make a rack for my motorcycle engines. I actually have a 4' section in my basement that will probably be coming out to make room for a bigger safe, but I don't have the room for the stuff on that section or the funds for the safe yet, so I'll probably end up with six 4' beams that I won't need after it finally happens because I can't wait that long to put the big rack up in the garage.

We got rid of our 2600 several years ago when it became a pain t hook it up to modern TVs. The only vintage gaming system I still have is a Sega Dreamcast with a half dozen games. I get it out every now and then and play it since I have the S-video cable for it. My folks still have our old NES and have asked if I wanted it a few times. We still have our Nintendo Wii as well, but it at least works with our big TV in the basement. No plans to get rid of it yet since there are several games we love to play on it.

Regarding all of the other projects, get rid of the ones that aren't absolutely must do projects. I'm still purging motorcycle parts. I decided to purge everything I could. I had to step back and really evaluate the bikes. Out of the 11 I had, I really only wanted to build six of them and two are getting major customizing so almost all of the parts I was keeping for those bikes could be traded off.

I have to tackle all of my parts and pieces for DIY audio this winter. I'm going to kit together parts for the projects I've decided I'm not going to build and just sell them off on the DIY audio forums. I might recoup $0.75-$0.95 cents on the dollar or break even... I don't really care at this point, I just need the parts out of my totes so the stress is gone.

I sold off a transmission, crank, rods, and heads that I was sitting on. I've also given away parts for other projects, including a set of electric actuator legs to my neighbor so he could build a new desk for his PC. His old desk was rickety and sad. I helped him design his new desk and taught him how to build it. Now he has a really nice, simple desk that is super sturdy and safe. It felt great to help him out and get those things out of my house.

I know it's hard at first, but once you REALLY look at all the stuff for all those projects, then decide which ones will truly make you happy to finish and enjoy, it's easier to get rid of the rest. It's hard to let the first one go, but once you do, the others are much easier to say goodbye to. The hardest part for me was thinking about the money they might be worth. Then I thought about the hassle of selling them and I put a value on my time and the stress reduction; after that most of it became a loss to sell. I traded off several for things I would enjoy like the vintage Pioneer SX3900 receiver. If I couldn't find a trade, I just got rid of them. I'm still purging, but it's much easier now.

Yup, reassessing things is hard. I have been doing it slowly over time, it is tough to do too much at once. The biggest issue I have is going to be time, at least for the next few months, knowing this is most likely why I am so stressed and paralyzed. The last couple of winters have been terrible, I didn't get anything really done and I was busy doing things for the tower project, this winter should be different, there will still be some "tower project", but I am ready for that aspect and won't let it take over my life this time. I have been much better at balancing things, it is the juggling without realizing what you are juggling that kills it for me. I have a strong list of projects and the associated tasks to get them completed and I adjust as needed, it has been working fairly well for me and I just see things getting better in that regard. I am still working on getting my goals in order, then there is the issue of needs versus wants, I am terrible at needing things that I want.

The MRAP axles are headed this way!

I have to unload my truck, then I am headed to the shop, the GF is coming over to help go through some stuff in the office trailer.

They would sure look good under one of the burbs, unfortunately I am not that interested in build the burbs for that use. They will look really good under a 1970s F700 crewcab truck!

The axles are here, now I need to unload them, probably stuck them on the back of the crane for now. They are going on the back burner for now, still need to dig out the truck that I am putting them under first. These axles look mighty tuff, can’t wait until they are in something.

Got the axles unloaded and onto the back of the crane, too hot outside for me to do much more. Going to do a few inside tasks, of course now I want to get out the tires and rims to see them on the axles.

Ok, I surrender. Your axles are bigger than my axles!

And yes they would be quite spectacular under a Burb. Sorry I should probably not feed that idea. They're gonna be great under the F700 too.

You know what the funny part is? These are not the biggest axles that I have, they are just the most over the road worthy ones.

I don’t have a great picture as the truck is buried in storage, this one will have to do for now. 1970s F700, already 4x4 but needs some serious upgrades.

Yup, cummins 5.9 with a 6 speed auto. In my head I was thinking it would make sense to buy a rear MRAP axle since I don’t want it to be four wheel steer, but honestly it seems like it would make more sense to just use this pair for now, I know I can get another set later, maybe I will find another great deal. I am definitely not ready for the second set of them. Sometimes my rational thought process still works! Hopefully the axle mounts are similar on the front and rear axles, if so, it would be an easy thing to swap out the steer axle with a straight axle later.

All i can say is, WOW, you are thinking big! You should data mine over on pirate4x4 for those axles and maybe post the build too, it's a little off topic here, but ON TARGET over there.

I have done some undercover investigation over at pirate, but I am not ready to start a thread yet. It will make for an interesting truck when all is done. Seeing how long the burb has taken to get nowhere, who knows what will happen with all of these new projects. Right now I am trying to setup a desk at my new office, but I don’t have a big enough top to use, was seriously thinking of high jacking the butcher lock top I just rebuilt. I need to just get something for now so I can at least use the space for my paperwork.

Ok, now you're just bragging. [emoji106][emoji481]

Well, I wouldn't want people to think I was lying.

Tonight was awesome, not. I just got back from the shop, we had lost power at the house and they kept changing the estimated time to have it up and running again. They first said 7:45 PM, so we went to get dinner, then they updated it to 11PM, OK, not too bad, then it got updated to 7AM. At that point I was afraid we would lose the food in the fridge. Off to the shop I went, got the generator and some battery powered lights and USB chargers. On my way home, GF texts me and says power is on. [emoji35] and [emoji4] at the same time.

Love the pictures... always impressive...

Got to ask... 4+ bins of Atari?... Damn dude... I consider myself a gamer... My Atari stuff fits in a lonely briefcase... even my XBOX version 1, 360, one and now the one x wouldn't need four+ big bins...

Pines, those were just the ones you can see in the pictures. There are more, trust me. I still have at least a dozen complete systems of different styles. Then there are the bins with NES stuff, plus the miscellaneous ones. Yes, I have too many games and systems, at least I can admit it.
